Webcomics

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.
This group should probably have more organizers. See documentation on this recommendation.

Crafting the Recipe for Drupal Webcomics Platform

I will be writing out the steps I think we need to create a simple install of Drupal that supports webcomics publishing (Help me build this page!) We should focus on Drupal 6 as it is the current version (it also has several advantages over 5 that are appealing to webcomics publishers, starting with the theme system in 6)

  1. Need to create a Drupal Install Profile. (I know nothing about this yet!) Ideally there would be a distribution of Drupal with additional modules needed for the Drupal Webcomics Platform bundled in the install.

2009 Resolution: Let's Do Support for Webcomic Publishing in Drupal Right

Let's start the discussion anew for 2009. After some minor tinkering in the fall (and again this month) I'm positive that we can create a recipe for publishing webcomics on the Drupal platform. To the extent there is any other active energy in the Drupal community interested in supporting this effort I sincerely hope we can all work together towards this goal.

Webcomic Module for 6.x?

Hello everyone,

I'm new to Drupal & clearly new to Drupal Groups. =/

I had recently been working on putting together a site with Joomla for web comics, blogs & selling digital comics, but unfortunately couldn't find a solution there and certainly not an affordable/viable one. It seems that no one is interested in developing such a module, as well, and seemingly have little time for it.

About the Webcomic Module

just created a test site and did install the module, got one of our comic artists to upload his stuff and he got a bit pissed off as there was no navigation through the strips, so i tried to see if there was a gallery for webcomics, as the module for uploading the images for the strips I think is great, so tried everything, from installing page route and because I dont know the coding, got a bit frustrated at having to muck about, even with creating categories and containers, because everything is in link form the comics loose a lot of their grab power, whereas if people would see the images s

Webcomic 6.x Battle Plan

This is a Wiki Page for design discussion for Webcomic module. This is for planning the 6.x port of the Webcomic module.

This is almost in a stub state, and you are welcome to contribute to this design brainstorming.

Views integration turned on - please contribute by testing

Hi all,

After a seeming hibernation on my part, I could chip in some time to work on the module. The earlier port by mustafau had the views integration switched OFF temporarily. I just updated the 5.x-1.x-dev and the HEAD with the integration switched on. I did some preliminary tests and it seems to be working in a shaky way.

If you could run some tests, and add any bugs found in the issue tracker, that would be helpful for me (or other developers) to work on it. The problem I am facing is that I have not used this module before and I am not pretty sure on some of the design directions taken by Eaton. If any of you have used the earlier setup, and know how things should be working - such input would be greatly appreciated.

Porting webcomic module

Hi all,

I am not sure how much time Eaton is able to put into this.

I am not even sure how I can contribute back the code back to the community after/during the porting changes (not even sure, if I am capable).

But as a strat, I have started a Webcomic Module 4.7 to 5 Porting Wiki Page to track this.

Any comments/suggestions are welcome.

Porting webcomic.module from 4.7 to 5.x

Last updated: 29-Jan-2008 by Vyoma

To do:

  1. Testing (general)
  2. Testing - specific to views. There are some places that does give warnings and does not seem to work as required. It needs to be tested in this perspective and issues need to be tracked.

Done:

  1. webcomic.module and webcomic_theme.inc changes done. mustafau successfully upgraded the module to 5.x.
  2. Getting the 5.x code into CVS? Would be easier for people to download and code/test. I have applied the patch by mustafau and branched to DRUPAL-5. Can be found in the 5.x-1.x-dev release.
  3. Views module integration turned ON.

Notes

Please add notes on stuff you want to add to this WikiPage here and I will try to organize it.

What exactly is webcomics?

I know it could sound silly, anyway - even if I can get an idea from the name - I still couldn't understand well what webcomics module is for:
Why don't we put a proper explanantion here?

Cheerio!

Would ASCII art comics be supported?

From the Just-when-you-thought-of-everything department:

Would the webcomic module be flexible enough to support a text area for a fixed-width font instead of an image?

Webcomics in Drupal: the future

Greetings, webcomic-y people!

There hasn't been activity in this group for a while, mostly because the people who started it have been busy, but I think it's high time to kick things off. I discovered Drupal a couple of years ago when looking for a nice CMS to host my webcomic, and the cloud of information I wanted to use to document the fictional world it took place in. I whipped up a very (very!) simple module called 'comic' that was available for download on Drupal.org for almost a year.

Along the way, I learned a lot about Drupal and got sucked into the community's vortex of awesomeness. Early this year, I started work on an advanced replacement for comic.module called, conveniently enough, webcomic.module. It's in a just-usable but still-experimental state, and it has a long way to go before it can really be the basis of a solid comic site. The purpose of this group is to gather insights from people who either run webcomics, are looking for tools to do so, or want to help build those tools. I know what MY needs are, but I want to make sure that Drupal has the tools necessary to meet other comic sites' needs as well.
