This meeting is simply an open-house to connect face-to-face with those interested in making the summit happen in Portland in 2011. So feel free to drop by at any point between 5pm-7pm at Lucky Lab NW , and if you can only come virtually I (sarah_p) will be in IRC (#drupal-pdx) during that time as well. All suggestions and ideas about the event will be taken note of, and once the committee is formed we'll sort through ideas at our early meetings.

In the meantime check out the PNWDS - 2011 Pre-Organizing Committee Survey. This will help us gauge interest as we organize volunteers.

For anyone who missed the meetup last night here's a recap. To help continue the success of the previous summits an Advisory Committee has been formed. With the goals of supporting the future host city organizing committee, and keeping the mission of the summit consistent from year-to-year. The Advisory Committee will not plan the summit, and the user group will not plan the summit. This open house is to start getting signups for those who would like to be on the Organizing Committee that does plan the summit.

As current liaison with the committee, here's what's happening. Yesterday the Advisory Committee held a conference call discussing final details of the Vancouver summit, and the upcoming 2011 summit. In summary the general consensus is to keep outreach and the summit on separate dates, although there are other ways to help people who are lost than a beginner track which we can discuss once the organizing committee has formed.

Just to clarify we have not accepted having the summit in Portland at this point, there are people who are interested in heading up the organizing committee, but because this is a volunteer organized event we will need to split up roles as much as possible to avoid burnout. So interest from the community at large is encouraged, please do not feel like you have to attend, or even be a part of the Portland user group to participate. This is a regional event, and if all you can do is come and help for a day it would be greatly appreciated!

I'd like to help from my not-in-Portland-but-relatively-close location an hour away in the Gorge. I'm also putting out a request that we try and find a venue with WINDOWS. I like sunlight, even if it goes through clouds to get to me. It must be hard, since it almost never happens at these events, but if we could at least try. I'm not the basement type, and others mention at each event as well.

Changes

I have modified the open-house end time on this event post 8pm to 7pm. Sorry for the changes, but if you can't make it by 7pm feel free to contact me directly or fill out the survey and it will be as good as having showed up tonight. Thanks!
