The goal for the Open App Standard is to define the purpose and high level components of an App infrastructure in Drupal, and to define the technical protocols required for the creation, use, and distribution of apps in the community and larger marketplace.
AtDrupalCon event app
Saforian, a web design agency located in Northern Virginia, developed an event app for the upcoming DrupalCon Portland. Our fun, interactive app simplifies the event experience by showing you what’s going on at the conference and the hot spots to check out in Portland, along with making it easy to connect with other Drupal lovers. Not only is the app loaded with useful easy-to-access information but the way it's presented and its user interface are incredibly fun and interactive.

Drupal App Store BoF DrupalCamp London 2013
We just had a BoF at DrupalCamp London 2013 BoF on the "Drupal App Store" after the subject was brought up by Robert Douglass in his keynote:
http://2013.drupalcamplondon.co.uk/session/step-4-distributions-could-he...
Pantheon was referenced as a potential App Store creator and looking around the web there are a few other candidates.
Surprisingly there wasn't an out and out rejection of the idea.
We made these notes:

Kit Compliance for theme regions and the Open App Standard
Just installed OpenPublic for the first time to review its implementation of the OpenApps standard. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but technically speaking, the fact that it's using an Omega-based theme precludes Kit compliance, as Omega doesn't use Kit-compliant theme regions.
I'm guessing that a lot of folks a lot more informed than me have already noticed this. What's the current thinking on theme regions and block placement for Features/Apps? What's folks' thinking about the use of the Delta module in Features/Apps?
Cheers,
Sean
Open Enterprise distro beta launch for D7
Wanted to let anyone interested know that we just launched the Open Enterprise distribution for Drupal 7 into beta. It has come a long way since the distro (iSite Essentials) we launched back in 2008. I would love to get any thoughts or input.
We reworked the distro for D7 to include a streamlined base installation of essential modules and site building that are popular in most sites. We leverage Apps to install more advanced optional features like blogs, job board, rotating banner, etc.

As part of our strategy, and following Drupalcon London, Linnovate has started investing in an app store, and we are trying to figure out what would be the best format/architecture of a Drupal App Store.
Here are some first thoughts, toward a possible implementation. The goal is to describe a generic app store, that can interconnect with any existing D7 website/distribution.
(excuse the English, grammar etc.)
Any company or individual can set up a Drupal marketplace to offer own or other developer's applications for sale.
A Drupal marketplace involves two components:

Adding structure to the OAS Draft
I find the formatting and layout of the current Open App Standard DRAFT page difficult to parse, and the lack of a Table of Contents makes understanding the overall structure & navigation difficult. At http://community.aegirproject.org/handbook/open-app-standard-draft, I have tried to add this kind structure, though I'm not convinced it reflects the intentions of the authors.
