DOM
The DOM, Advanced CSS, and Browser Compatibility
In the March meeting that just happened, Tom did a good job of quickly covering the DOM, explaining that every browser implements the DOM differently, and then telling us that we shouldn't have to worry about that because of libraries like jQuery. jQuery handles all the incompatibilities behind the scenes and gives you a single method to call all the time. It's great for developers - it just works. If you ever do research on plain DOM methods, you'll quickly find pages talking about which browsers support those methods and how to get the same effect in all browsers.
UPTV's install
The installation of the Open Media Project at UPTV is well on its way to success. While we still have technical compatibility issues to smooth out, after working with the staff of DOM and UPTV’s supporters, I know these issues and future ones will be resolved. For a week, I was able to watch the evolving process of creating a flexible, open and user-driven public access system. Even though the installation is just the first step for UPTV, I am excited to be part of the process to make the OM system stronger.
To prepare for DOM’s on-site visit, I would recommend:
One Month til the OM Beta group is selected.
In just over a month, the 6 organizations who will participate in the first round of the Open Media Beta process will be selected, cooperating with Denver Open Media to implement and develop the set of Drupal Modules that will help automate workflows, engage users in more control of the station, increase your online presence, and take the next step in cooperating as a true network of locally-focused, user-driven community media centers.
