Along with many of the other hats I wear, I also sit on the advisory board of the Ada Initiative. A non-profit focussed on increasing the participation of women in open technology and culture.

Drupal is a leader in this space, with many more women directly participating and taking leadership roles in the project than is usual in other open source and open culture communities.

Attention Drupalchix!

I recently recorded a video for the High Visibility Project (http://highvisibilityproject.org/) which is working to collect stories of women in technology. All you need to do is record a video of yourself talking about your tech experiences, upload it to vimeo or youtube and submit it on the site!

Calling all DrupalChix in Colorado.

After the HUGE success of our DrupalCamp Colorado last weekend, and the upcoming Drupalcon Denver in 2012, we wanted to see how we could get more of you amazing Drupalchix involved in the Colorado Drupal community.

I know getting involved can seem really overwhelming at first, and some gals may be wanting to make it to the DBUG meetings, but really would feel comfortable if they knew someone.

The Ada Initiative (http://adainitiative.org/) is a newly-formed organisation which aims to support and promote women in open technology and culture. We’ve just launched our first annual census — a broad survey of open technology and culture participants — to find out more about what projects and communities people are involved in, and how they feel about women’s inclusion and representation in the field. Hey all -

I was remarking at our Vancouver D7 Release Party, how fantastic it was that we had so many women there, I was guessing about a third of the attendees (which I think was more than we usually get at our meetups).

Just made me curious as to how the other local user groups were doing, as far as getting more women into the Drupal community, and supporting them, etc.
