Women of Drupal - I'd like to talk to you

Hi all,

I'd love to interview some of you.

I want to learn about your experiences and opinions on all things Drupal and the community.

If you're keen to talk, I'd love to know what the underrepresented side of Drupal has been achieving lately so we can shout about it together.

Hope to talk to you soon
Maygen - mcibty

Anita Borg Institute upcoming conference and interesting links

In October I am going to the Anita Borg Institute's Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing conference in Houston. http://gracehopper.org. One of the questions on the registration asks if I am a member of Systers, which I wasn't, so I looked it up. It sounds interesting and thought I would share this with all of you. http://anitaborg.org/get-involved/systers

Would be fun to have some other Drupal Women join me at this event, if anyone is interested, or already planning on attending, please let me know so we can meet up.

Life's not fair...

I'll put back the post that started this thread. I've been hit and supported, but my whole point was encouraging discussion about more women in Drupal and there being opportunities for them with no judgments outside of tech skills. Susan

I didn't ask to be born a woman; I didn't purposely wait until I was old to get into Drupal; and I certainly have no desire just to be attractive to be noticed. One day women will be looked at for their expertise and ability rather than being different.

Where the Tech is She? What can we proactively do to improve local diversity?

I'd love some discussion about WWeek's latest cover story about women in technology: http://wweek.com/portland/article-19236-where_the_tech_is_she.html

What do you all think about, in terms of ways to improve diversity in our community?

High Visibility Project

Attention Drupalchix!

I recently recorded a video for the High Visibility Project (http://highvisibilityproject.org/) which is working to collect stories of women in technology. All you need to do is record a video of yourself talking about your tech experiences, upload it to vimeo or youtube and submit it on the site!

If this is your kind of jam, please submit!

what strategies / tactics would you suggest to attract women to software development, web design, and Comp Sci in general?

I've started looking into the issue of why there aren't many women in working in the Sciences and Engineering. I'm particularly interested in attracting women to Computer Science, software development, and web development. I think women could and would add a lot to improve whatever field they chose - whether they wanted to be Database Administrator, Drupal Hacker, SysAdmin, etc. I think they approach problems differently, and they would help create better solutions.

Ada Lovelace Day

This is a neat idea:

If you admire a woman in "technology," (a huge arena, but it would be great to have some drupal/open source representation) add this to your calendar (March 24) and participate!
