Backbone.js Group

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

About the Backbone.js Group

A group for discussions related to the planning of and development with the Backbone JavaScript framework and Drupal.

Drupal needs robust integration with a JavaScript framework. The Age of Web Applications is upon us, and jQuery is not enough.

This group is focused on the planning, building and development with the Backbone Module for Drupal. More general JavaScript questions will be best served in the JavaScript group, but all questions related to Backbone vs. other client side frameworks, client-side templating libraries, etc. are more than welcome!

Drupal Backbone Resources

This page is meant to be a community-currated collection of resources for developers looking to do more with Drupal and Backbone. For the "official" list of resources, check out the Drupal Backbone developer documentation page, as well as those below (there will be significant overlap).

Please contribute your own resources for working with Backbone, Drupal and Backbone, Drupal REST, etc.

Client side test in Drupal -- let's figure this out

Much of our front end testing effort has gone into the TestSwarm module (the platform) and the Frontend Automated Tests module (the tests).

Having written several tests now, I've come to the following conclusions:

<

  • We have better tools at our potential disposal to allow non-technical folks (UX, documentation, etc) to define what behaviors they expect from a feature; later a technical person can translate this description in to tests.

D8 Port of Backbone Module Starting

A quick announcement that we're starting porting of the Backbone module to D8. While Backbone is in core, that will most likely not include library functions for handling Drupal RESTful sync'ing in the client. The Backbone module will continue to hold JS implementations for easy integration with Drupal's new REST services, and some convenience models for working with Drupal entities in JS and common entity types.

If you're interested in being involved, please don't hesitate to message me on d.o!

    Thinking/Dreaming about Twig/Twig.js and Backbone

This might merit a more thorough treatment later, but I wanted to bring a conversation that's started at the tail of a very long comment thread about the prospect of moving to the Twig templating engine in Drupal 8, and what that could mean for front-end developers writing apps with JS frameworks like Backbone.
