Building Community Sites (Part 2) - Broward Drupal Meeting Minutes - Wed December 11th, 2019
This month, Jay ( https://jay-epstein.com/, https://twitter.com/jeppy64 ) talked about the basics for getting started creating community sites. Jay covered the following topics:
- How posts work (what fields used to generate the post end up in the URL of the post and which don’t)
- Aggregated views (to display a count for each row returned in the view)
- The basic components of a view that will be used on a community site to display different components of the posts on the site
We also spent some time answering other questions.

Building Community Sites - Broward Drupal Meeting Minutes - Wed November 13th, 2019
This month, we talked about two different methods for creating a community site. The first was using the Open Social Drupal distribution for creating site https://www.floridavoterrestoration.com/. We walked through how to create different content on the site, including how Open Social builds it. We also walked through the backend, showed pros/cons of using Open Social, and how to tweak some of the default settings to make the site more usable. For example, all events in Open Social are upcoming events. We showed how to display past events as well.

This month, we talked about the Open Social Drupal distribution. This distro is currently the most popular way to create a community site in Drupal, so we dived in and looked at some of the features that come out of the box with Open Social. We also discussed another aspect that is important to creating a new sites: SSL certificates. We talked about using SSL certificates on the bare domain and on www, and on different types of hosting hosting as well.

Static site generators can play nicely with Drupal and make it easier to take advantage of the speed, security, and scalability of static sites. This is one approach many people are considering for making their sites faster.
