Mapping solutions for events
Hi there,
Recently I've been reviewing mapping modules for a NGO's Drupal6 website in Germany.
They want to be able to do something very simple: add an address (possibly via CCK Address or a simple text field) to a node (of type event, but selfmade, not via Event module). A map should show up in the full view of that node, having a marker at the place they specified.

"Introduction to CiviCRM" training May 6th
Hi folks,
The first DC CiviCRM Meetup this past Wednesday had a great showing. We had over 25 people who came out to talk about the system, where it is going, and how various organizations are implementing the CRM.
We discussed the need for both training and networking sessions, and have decided to hold two Meetups each month. In two weeks, on May 6th at 6:30pm, we will hold an "Introduction to CiviCRM" session. We are still looking for a location to hold this session, so please send me any recommendations on conference rooms we can use that can seat about 30 people.
Washington DC CiviCRM Meetup this Wednesday!

Drupal For Good - San Francisco Bay Area @ NTC 2009
If you work with Drupal in a non-profit/social change setting, are based in the San Francisco Bay Area, and are planning to attend the 2009 Nonprofit Technology Conference this month, I'd like to invite you to the "Drupal For Good - San Francisco Bay Area" session that I'll be leading on Sunday afternoon. This should be a fun opportunity to find out what's cooking in the local non-profit Drupal scene and meet our fellow Bay Area Drupal do-gooders face-to-face. Read on for details...

Drupal Designers and Developers needed for THE grassroots website for Gay and Lesbian Equal Rights
We are currently developing "Equality Central" with the goal of establishing a clearinghouse for all events, organizations, campaigns, resources for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ) equal rights and justice movement. We have "buy-in" from major grassroots organizations in California and have built a beta website. We need Drupal developers and designers who can help develop the website. We are focusing on California, but this could become the national, grassroots hub for LGBTQ activism.
Please let me know if you are interested.
Equity Partner - Technology Guru | Social Network + CMS = Neighborhood-based social network startup
As the economic downturn becomes more pronounced and people begin to realize that government alone cannot help solve the problem, there is a growing awareness of the need for community and connection. We are developing a plug-in portal for individuals, groups, and organizations that want to create a better world through direct help to one another. It is an online city-specific community that is part social network and part CMS that connects those that need help with those that want to help.

SalesForce Taxonomy module... thoughts? interest? contributors?
The sf_node and sf_user modules are great.
What I would like to see (and what I'm going to have to build for a few upcoming projects) is a sf_taxonomy module.
In essence, I see this as tying a SalesForce picklist value set to a Drupal vocabulary.
The biggest hurdle, imho, is that SalesForce picklists are specific to single object types, where as Drupal vocabularies are site-wide.
Given that, will this idea even float?
What are peoples' thoughts about ways to work around this particular obstacle?
What are some other obstacles?
Is anyone interested in pitching in?
Drupal @ 2009 Nonprofit Technology Conference - April 26-28 in San Francisco
Here's an event in San Francisco that may be of interest to nonprofit Drupallers. There are some Drupal/CMS sessions on the agenda. I'm trying to get a "Bay Area Drupal for Good" birds-of-a-feather session included, as well - I'll keep local folks posted, if it happens. The conference is held in a different city every year, so if you're local to the Bay Area, this year is a good opportunity to go. Note that the registration fee goes up if you register after March 13.

Every movement needs a mission. Here's one! Help Drupal Help Save the World!
Can Drupal save the world? Does this Drupal movement have a mission? Is Drupal moral?
Help me answer these question. I volunteer with a small, DC-based human-rights group. They run an overtaxed Wordpress site on a an overtaxed server. They have a new, better host. But I was thinking this week would be a perfect opportunity to help a needy non-profit, move the site to drupal, and answer the above questions.

Strange problem with Forums in a multilangual site - help please
Hello,
I’m building with Drupal 6.9 a multilingual (English, Hebrew, Arab, Greek & Turkish) site for a Middle Eastern NGO (http://b1.mideastpan.org).
Setting of a multilingual site with I18 pack was, for a non-programmer ‘Drupal newbie’, pretty straightforward. It seems that content translation and switching between interface & menu languages are working fine (Bravo).
After setting a forum, the following ‘strange’ problems appear:
Good examples of image and image gallery integration? modules, photo sharing service apps, etc?
Hey fellow Drupal for Good members, I'm looking for advice on photo integration.
Modules we've been playing around with make it easy to create simple thumbnail galleries and display images in a lightbox when selected, but they don't facilitate captions with individual photos when they're displayed as thumbnails or in the lightbox.
Has anyone seen any good examples they can point to?

Drupal, 2008 Elections, Obama and you!
Folks,
I am currently working on a couple of volunteer projects related to the elections, drupal and Obama. If you are interested in putting your skills to use in this regard please give me a shout (privately) asap.
I'm looking for the following -
- Drupal admin and light system admin
- Light Drupal programming and themeing
- Graphic design (I need a simple banner and some other graphical elements very quickly)
This is ideal for either:
Systems Administrator | Democracy Now!
Forwarding this really cool opportunity to join the Democracy Now! team in New York. If you're a Linux Systems Admin with Drupal experience, this sounds like a fantastic opportunity to join a driven team of smart, passionate people working for justice. One of the responsibilities would be to develop new internal and public websites for them: sounds like Drupal would be a great fit!
Here's the info. It was taken from http://www.democracynow.org/about/jobs#sysadmin

Geo module is minimally functional in D6
I've had some time and some funding, so I've roughed in my proof of concept on a D6 version of Geo. In traditional geek style, the most informative descriptions are in my commit messages: http://drupal.org/project/cvs/147736
Basically, my goal is to demystify "geospatial", while integrating it as much as possible within Drupal. It needn't be an academic exercise to get this data working properly, so I've tried to keep things simple. The goals/implementation do the following:
Media Player with Dynamic Logo!
Made some progress last night with the Drupal Media Player that I blogged about recently. Dynamic logos!
You have to go to my blog to see the action.
This was created with an hour of tweaking the OpenLaszlo XML, and then pasting the following into this node: print theme('media_player_player', 'http://spindowners.com/files.dm/videos/20051210-w50s.flv', array('logo' => '/sites/aaronwinborn.com/files/my-logo.png');
Couldn't be simpler! I see a dev release as soon as we have an icon for the play button!
Of course, playlists and the like will take more. We've talked about including several players, including a light-weight and one with all the bells & whistles, and have the module call the proper one according to passed parameters.
BabelUp: a community for social change
BabelUp is a social network for social activism. That is, it's a fun community to hang out in with friends and discuss global issues. BabelUp hosts forums, user blogs, image galleries, real-time chatting, groups, calendars, and lots of other features you'd expect to find in a well-designed (hopefully) social network.

Media Code Sprint (Top 3 Goals)
The Media Code Sprint is underway! Here's a cross-post from my blog detailing the goals of this sprint, which runs through Saturday. We need your help!
Andrew Morton (drewish), Darrel O'Pry (dopry, remotely), and I are heading up a Media Code Sprint in Portland this week! Come help, in person or remotely, if you're interested in multimedia and Drupal! It has now officially started, and as I've volunteered to help keep folks updated, here goes...
First the reasons.
Number One: Better Media Handling in Core
Dries conducted a survey prior to his State of Drupal presentation at Boston Drupalcon 2008, and number one on the top ten (or 11) list of what would make THE KILLER DRUPAL 7 Release was "Better media handling".
Let me repeat that. Better media handling.
People have done really amazing stuff in contrib, but it is difficult (if not impossible in many cases) for developers to coordinate the use of files, as there is no good means for file handling in the core of Drupal. Thus, we have several dozen (or more) media modules doing some small part, or even duplicating functionality, sometimes out of necessity.
We need (better) media and file handling in Drupal core. In particular, there has been a patch for a hook_file in the queue for over a year, which has been in the Patch Spotlight (for the second time, no less) since May! (And has been RTBC several times during that process...) Come on folks.
One of the powers of Drupal is its system of hooks. We have hooks to modify nodes, to notify changes to user objects, to alter nearly any data (such as forms and menus). Noticeably absent is a consistent handling for files or any sort of notification. We need hook_file.
So goal Number One: get media handling in core. The means? Add hook_file and make files into a 1st class Drupal object. We'll be creating a test suite for functionality in the hook_file patch to validate it and "grease the wheels" to get it committed.
The other goals of this sprint pale in comparison to the first in utility, but are still highly desirable and worthwhile.
