So I want to get the Hong Kong meetup ball rolling. I'm willing to spearhead things, but I need help finding a location. Being as I haven't lived here that long I don't know where is a good place to meet. I think it'd be great if we had a group established before Jacob gets here in May. So I'm proposing that we get together to to meet each other and answer a few questions. Some things to figure out:
- depending on how many people we have interested we'll need to find a space where we can setup a bunch of laptops and maybe a projector
- what experience/knowledge level are people at?
- what do people want to learn from each other?
- what do people have to share (I've got some things I can show depending on the answers to the previous 2 questions?
I'm proposing that we get together the evening of Thursday April 3rd. For our first meet I think we should just get together for some food and drinks and not worry too much about getting a bunch of laptops setup. I think we should meet somewhere that's accessible to people from all over Hong Kong (It sounded like there were even people from Shenzhen that were interested). Does anyone know of a good place in Kowloon, or Sha Tin where 5-10 people can get together over beverages and a bit of food to talk about the above questions? I think a cafe or the like might be best - easier for people to come and go than a restaurant.
Give us your ideas on where to meet.

Here's a location idea
I just thought of this spot: There's a Pacific Coffee in Festival Walk (the big mall next to Kowloon Tong station). It's pretty roomy. And it's where the green and east lines intersect so it should be a good compromise as far as ease of getting there.
Does anyone have any other ideas?

Pacific Coffee in Festival Walk will be a good place for a casual chat!

Yeap, it is a good place for causal meetup. HKLUG and related Linux community used it before.
If a formal meeting place is needed in the following, a CS lecturer in City University might help us to book a classroom or lecture theatre.

This is your meetup and I'm just the party crasher but I'm down for a casual meetup. A few folks maybe a laptop or two and just some nice Drupal talk.

I just found out about an event in Guangzhou on the 22nd and 23rd. Maybe we can push back the meetup to the weekend before and scheme about attending this event? Or maybe we meet at the event?
Just throwing ideas out there. Anyone know more about this event? Its not that far away from HK.

Great. How 'bout this: we
Great.
How 'bout this: we have an informal meetup on Thursday April 3rd at Pacific Coffee in Festival Walk. We can meet each other and see what everyone wants to learn/share. We can then try and plan a more formal style meetup for when Jacob's in town. And perhaps some people will be interested in going to the Guangzhou event.
If there's no objections I'll create an event node for the informal meetup for next week.
