Is search within groups working?

Hello, all,
I've spent nearly an hour googling and looking through various threads, and I feel like I'm missing something obvious here --
But, is search within groups working?
For example, when I search within the Drupal in Education group for the word "trombone" I get a lot of false hits -- bug in views
On a test site, I have had similarly inaccurate results when creating searches within views and exposing the Search: Index filter --
Is this a bug in Views? And if so, did I just overlook the issue? And with the views 2 rewrite, is this even relevant?

I get no hits from that
I get no hits from that search. other searches provide expected results - http://groups.drupal.org/og/search/1722?filter0=moodle&op=Search. So, I can't reproduce the problem. Anyone else?
Okay -- that's bizarre
Last night, that search returned all posts in the Drupal in Education group -- using both the link I provided above and by entering the word into the search box.
The reason I actually did it was that I had seen this behavior on a couple development sites, and I wanted to test it here -- and I felt mildly reassured to see it here, as on the dev sites I had tested it, run cron, inspected the contents of the search_index table, tried it out with different roles and uid 1, the works.
Anyways -- I'll investigate more. Or else I'll just write it off to losing my mind :|

I believe the issue is a corrupt views cache caused at least in part by votingapi's views integration. i am switching to the tip instead of the released version since that supposedly helps.
the word trombone is not
the word trombone is not used in this group. i get hits for the word moodle.
i upgraded votingapi
