Start:
2008-05-17 13:00 US/Eastern - 2008-05-17 15:00 US/Eastern

Join us at MindComet's Headquarters in Altamonte Springs for our monthly meetup on Saturday, May 17, 2008 from 1 to 3 PM.

The main topic of the meeting will be "Getting Started with Drupal - installation and setup", presented by Joe Moraca. We'll also have some show-and-tell time to anyone who wants to give a 5-minute presentation on anything Drupal related (modules, sites, themes, news, etc...)

This meeting will be geared towards users who are new to Drupal - so bring all your newbie friends and get them to take a sip of the Drupal Kool-Aid(tm).

Thanks to MindComet for allowing us to hold our meetup at their facilities. If you're planning on bringing a snack, please obey the "leave only footprints" rule so we're sure to get invited back! Here's the full address to MindComet:

385 Pearl Lake Causeway
Altamonte Springs, FL 32714

Please click the "Sign up" button below so we can have some sort of count on the number of attendees. Thanks!

Complete Newbie Ubercart Theming Interest

dharveymi - Sat, 2008-04-26 01:01

Psyched about meetup. Interested in setting up custom social networking and e-commerce sites for fun and profit. Excited about learning and contributing to the drupal community. Is there anything I should know before the meeting?

David,

I took a look at your website, todapeople.com, and found it pretty interesting. It didn't look like it was in Drupal though. So, before the meeting, I'd recommend you try to duplicate your site with Drupal. You'll problably have a few problems, but that means you'll have lots more questions when you come to the meeting.

You obviously already have a server, and you can find all the themes and modules you need on Drupal.org for the forum and wiki that you are missing in your current setup. Go ahead and give it a shot and see if you can "make it or break it" and then you'll get a lot more out of the training and you'll have some real questions to ask. I think you'll also be pleasantly suprised at how easy basic Drupal really is.

Good luck,

Steve

Conference Call

Is anybody interested in calling in to a conference phone number that wouldn't be able to make it in person? If people are interested I'll set it up.

Tentative Drupal Poster to place on USF engineering School

faunapolis - Fri, 2008-05-02 22:11

I've made a tentative powerpoint invitation to put as a poster in the USF engineering school. Please take a look at it and modify, comment, edit, or redo if you want. I am planning to put it on the bulleting boards next week. My guess is that at least a few students will see it. If you can help me make it more attractive I'd be happy.

You can download it from here: faunapolis[dot]org/files/Drupal_beginners_class_Orlando_May17_2008.ppt

maybe not say they are "required" to register ... they can find the info without registration. If they come they will register later!!

PDF version?

Looks good - just some quick suggestions:

  1. In the first bullet, add some examples of sites that run Drupal (popsci.com, theonion.com, fastcompany.com, amnesty.org, etc..)

  2. Get rid of the line about HTML, CSS, and PHP knowledge being a plus - because in a lot of cases, it is not.

  3. Update the "where" stuff with the information from here.

  4. I think you can combine the last couple of bullets like this: "Full information and free signup at groups.drupal.org/florida"

Overall, I think it might be a bit too "wordy", but that's usually pretty easy to solve.

Finally, you might want to post it as a PDF as well...

Thanks for doing this!

I agree with Joe's comment

I agree with Joe's comment about not using "required".

I have also posted some info about the training on a couple of php meetup groups, and have had some interest.

Fauanapolis, would you like to have a 1 hour Tampa Drupal Meeting on May 10th to drum up interest? Basically, "this is Drupal; here are 5 drupal sites; this is the next training session; and are there any questions". If you want to have the Tampa meetup, you can also post that on your flyer, and I'll post it on the php and graphic design meetup sites.

As far as I know, the only Florida meetings scheduled at this time are the monthly Orlando (Altamonte Springs) meeting. See this thread for all the details.

Agreed, Tampa works better

Agreed, Tampa works better for me. I'll probably never make it to an Orlando meetup.

Yes Tampa!

I would love for a get together in Tampa. Sorry I messed the Orlando meet-up. I had to move and all.... But I'd love to meet as many of you out there!

something to think about

If there is enough interest, maybe we should think about having a Tampa meetup periodically as well (in addition to the scheduled Orlando meetups).

I know at least a couple of people from the west coast of Florida that would probably appreciate it.

I'd be willing to make the drive to Tampa occasionally to present something, if there's an audience, we should probably try to tap into it.

One more iteration of the sign/poster for the meeting

faunapolis - Tue, 2008-05-06 12:32

I talked to Jackezel, and we can make a pre-meeting meeting :) this Saturday May 10, at 3:00 PM at the Panera Bread at 18011 Highwoods Preserve Pkwy, Tampa, FL (next to the Muvico Starlight 20 theater).

I have incorporated this event information into the poster to place at USF. Also, I am attaching an image of the poster plus an address where you can download the powerpoint; you are welcome to suggest more modifications (even grammar is welcome), but I will likely post it tomorrow Wednesday to give people enough of a chance to come to the meeting here in Tampa.

Joe, Guys, thank you very

faunapolis - Sun, 2008-05-18 21:54

Joe, Guys, thank you very much for the Drupal beginners class, the space and the positive environment; I enjoyed it very much.

I was listening as everybody introduced themselves trying to see if anybody from USF besides me had attended, but it seems that nobody came. The posters I placed coincided with the break between the spring and summer semesters here at USF. Maybe next time I'll be able to convince a couple of people from here. If we get enough quorum, we might repeat the class for some of the Tampa people so that they are kind of prepared to go into Views and CCK the next time.
