Another g.d.o member tried posting updates to Contributed modules status - version 6.x and, when he encountered some spam filter, was not able to post his updates. He stated that he tried for over an hour.
He emailed me for help, I attempted posting the updates, and was unable to do so because of the following error message:
The spam filter that is installed on this site is currenly not available. Per the site's policy, we are unable to accept new submissions until that problem is resolved. Please try resubmitting the form in a couple minutes.
What's the fix? Collectively, the other member and I tried posting for over an hour and 10 minutes.
Thanks,
Walt

I am sorry that you all
I am sorry that you all wasted so much time ... The error message reasonably descriptive about whats happenning and what to do. namely, mollom is down and groups.drupal.org will not accept posts while it is down. thats so we don't get hit with spam. as it says, try back in a few mins. or better yet, try in a few hours. they are still in beta, after all.
Thanks Moshe
No worries.

Tried again more than 24 hours later...
...no luck. :(
Is it just my bad luck that I keep trying to post updates and Mollom is down...again?
Could it be that what I'm trying to post just isn't working for reason(s) other than Mollom being down?
Is it just me having issues, or are other folks experiencing difficulty posting updates to the wiki-like pages?
If it's Mollom, why is it that I can post here but not on the other wiki-like page [EDIT: http://groups.drupal.org/node/5036 ] where I'm trying to make the updates?
This is what I'm trying to post:

Error messages are getting old
I tried again today to submit the following to http://groups.drupal.org/node/5036, to no avail.
<tr class="ok"><td><a href="http://drupal.org/project/mibbit_irc">Mibbit IRC</a></td>
<td>Apr 13, 2008</td>

Again I received the same error:
I realize Mollom is in beta from Moshe's post above, but why are we allowing it to be tested on us? I'm generally patient but shouldn't we stick with something that works? Are we using it because it's Dries' project?
Maybe I'm missing something, but as the Contributed Module Status manager, I should be able to post, and so should that group's members, without repeatedly running into such aggravating errors from a beta product. I believe in less spam, but what's the benefit of a spam-killer if group members can't post content? Plus, it seems to be hit or miss because I see that some Contributed Module Status members ARE able to post while others are NOT.

frustrations definitely heard
Hey Walt,
First thanks for reporting all these problems as they happen to you. It helps to track down problems with the software/service and helps provide a picture of whether this is an improvement over past solutions we've used. As I think you saw from previous threads, the spam solutions we've used all have their problems and, in my opinion, Mollom is the best one that we've had in the last year here in G.d.o.
I haven't experienced any problems with Mollom yet personally, but I imagined that they might happen. So, I came up with what I think is a possible solution to problems like this Allowing other spam-catcher modules to get involved if the Mollom servers are offline. Can you perhaps chime in on that thread with your thoughts (positive, negative, other ideas for enhancement?).
Thanks.

Dries suggested some
Dries suggested some temporary measures while he and ben investigate further. You should be able to edit that page again. Sorry all for these hassles.
Success!
Thanks Moshe!

More issues with spam module on g.d.o
OK, today I received this message after trying to post:
"Your submission has triggered the installed spam filter and will not be accepted."
How do I overcome this? Thanks in advance!

I can't even change the Manager of a group that I'm Manager of
I can't even change the Manager of a group that I'm Manager of which is very discouraging. I'm pulling my hair out trying to manage groups and post to g.d.o and, over time, I have almost stopped posting to g.d.o because of my past negative experiences ever since the Mollom spam module began being used and because I keep getting these two messages:
"Your submission has triggered the installed spam filter and will not be accepted."
""We are sorry, but the spam filter on this site decided that your submission could be spam. Please fill in the CAPTCHA below to get your submission accepted."
The first message ("Your submission has triggered the installed spam filter and will not be accepted.") happened to me just a few minutes ago while trying to edit the "Projects Needing Financing" page to have gcopenhaver take over as Manager of the group from me as the current Manager:
http://groups.drupal.org/node/1034/edit
I scrolled down to "Authoring information", began to type the name gcopenhaver, selected it from the list of names that appeared, left the date the same, clicked "Preview" and received the spam message above. I logged out, opened a VPN connection to change the IP address just in case that might have some effect, logged back in, tried the above, and got the same spam message. I then tried removing the date and that didn't work either.
Why do I have so many issues with g.d.o and the spam module that's being used? Does Mollom hate me? It appears quite a few other users have issues with Mollom and I can only wonder how many people just get fed up and leave the site:
http://drupal.org/node/353588?mode=2&sort=2
http://drupal.org/files/issues/spam.jpg
Any help appreciated!
Take care,
Walt
Edit: And now after trying to post this, I'm getting the annoying "We are sorry, but the spam filter on this site decided that your submission could be spam. Please fill in the CAPTCHA below to get your submission accepted." This is very frustrating.

I'm sorry that this is
I'm sorry that this is happenning. I acknowledge that it is really frustrating. and yes, some users are probably not posting because of this.
I have no access to the logs at mollom.com so i can't really help here. the watchdog on this site just says that you saw a captcha. you would have to work with mollom to understand whats happenning here.
can't post to g.d.o
I've been having a lot of trouble posting to a discussion thread and it seems that it's the same problem.
I write a simple message and click Post but I get, "Your submission has triggered the installed spam filter and will not be accepted." Then I just can't post. I copy my message to an e-mail and try back later.
Sometimes I get a message that I need to fill out a CAPTCHA and that works. Sometimes my entry isn't accepted and the spam filter doesn't give me another chance.
Preventing people from commenting on a community site is a pretty serious problem. Wouldn't it be better to set the spam filter to err on the side of permissiveness? A spam message can always be deleted, but someone's effort to participate can be fleeting.

sorry about this
Sorry about this - it is a pain, but this is the best solution that we've found.
If you can, record the exact times that the problem occurs and the content you were trying to post. That will
Of course...how do you post that information here when the spam blocker blocks you? I'll send you a contact so you've got my e-mail address ;)

I'm having this problem too.
I'm trying to post to my home group today http://groups.drupal.org/portland and getting the message "Your submission has triggered the installed spam filter and will not be accepted."
I'm not redirected to a Captcha or anything, it just says that. I initially put a a href link in there, and then changed it to text style and still get the same message.
Last week when I posted something I also had to go through captcha gymnastics to post and had to remove www from all links in order to get past the spam filter, as it again thought I was a spambot. I'm not a spam bot; I was trying to post news coverage links of our group's community project :P (http://groups.drupal.org/node/22760)
Cheers
sorry it's a pain
The need from our end remains the same as my last comment.
Record the exact time and content and mail it to me (contact tab is on on my profile).
Given that we can help the Mollom folks tune their algorithms a bit more. Note that it is a reputation system, so after posting several real comments/posts it should appear for you less often.

Not quite
I'm actually not so sure its reputation based. I post regularly to g.d.o and because the few links I have in my signature (similar to yours) I pretty much get a captcha on every post I make. My understanding is that Mollom is much more about content than contributor. I think this is partially intentional, since you can find many cases where a "real person" will post a few reasonable posts, and then start firing away with the spam posts.

Can't post a training event
Hello,
I'm running into the same problem previously mentioned, and I'm not sure how to make Mollom like me. It won't let me post a training event listing with four hyperlinks and very minor formatting (strong, a href) tags and six paragraphs of actual content.
Please help? or let me know what I should do?
Cheers
It should be working for
It should be working for you...if not I'm not sure why not.
Please try again and if it continues contact us http://groups.drupal.org/contact and we'll look in the logs to find the problem.
