Wow! December already! This being the holiday season, I thought I'd initiate another experiment: an online-only meetup. What's to lose? And besides, if you really want to see some particular people, just organize a little get-together. Having several of those might be a fun byproduct.
[EDIT: There will be a Buffalo gathering at Buffalo Lab. Ping Brian Yurko in the comments for details!!!]
Use the Sign Up button on this page to indicate whether you plan to attend - if we exceed GoToMeeting's attendee cap, we'll switch to another account. As always, you need to register in order to be included on the broadcast email with the meeting password...
PRESENTATIONS
- Using Features [short preso, 20-30 minutes]
- What's Shockingly New in Drupal 7 [panel discussion -- volunteers needed!]
Using Features
Remember all of those database-config'd things you had to re-do on the live site because there wasn't a reliable way to package them up? Labor no more! I'll walk through my use of Features on a demo site I've cooked up, talk about failure points when doing Features-based development, and why a Features Server is such a good idea when deploying Drupal as a Service (DaaS).
What's Shockingly New in Drupal 7
There are a lot of API changes, and D7 just got a release candidate last week. (Yay!) Have you been doing a lot of thinking about D7? Experimenting with it? Downloading -dev snapshots for the past year? Chime in below -- we can talk about anything from planning D6->D7 upgrade projects to new theme hook implementations. Have a question? Post it below and we'll address it in the meeting.

I'd be glad to share my
I'd be glad to share my observations as a D7 early adopter.
If there's time, I'll tell you what to expect with a multisite installation on shared hosting.
that sounds great, john
The interesting thing about your perspective is that it is only with D7, and you've seen it mature pretty dramatically over the last several months.
Oh, and another thing: I have it on pretty good authority that the D7 "official" release will be by 7 Jan 2011. Yeehaw!
We will host a participation node at Buffalo Lab
We are still in need of more activity at Buffalo Lab. We will host a local node for connecting to the meeting.

I would be interested in testing out the GotoMeeting connection process some time before the actual meeting just to make sure audio is coherent. We could even do this a few minutes before the meeting.
great!
I recommend taking a look at the "The A/V List" comment from last month for guidance on the ideal audio in/out setup for a group meeting. http://groups.drupal.org/node/104224#comment-333399 In general, onboard mic/speakers are suboptimal/frustrating for groups to listen & participate.
Be sure to sign up even if remote!
Hey, y'all -- I know Brian Y's created a facebook invite & all for the "participation node" at Buffalo Lab, but please remember to sign up here too if you're planning on attending. It let's us all know whether or not to cancel the event. It's kinda important to have this centralized channel, no matter how much to love facebook and despise the structure of g.d.o.
Holidays: getting in the way of Drupal since 10,000 BC
I won't be able to make it. Between year-end projects and holidays, I have no time for meetings.
I look forward to your the Drupal 7 war stories in January, though.
that's too bad
Yeh, it's a holiday week for most of us. Russian Orthodox Christmas is 7 Jan, though. And that's the D7 Release Party! Imagine how all of our Russian Orthodox friends on g.d.o feel.
[ Also: I'm toying with the idea of recording it -- any takers on doing a backup recording that we can mix together? ]
And who besides JohnW and me has D7 experience? It would be really, really nice not to have to talk the whole time... we can easily pass the presentation torch!
Can't Make It
Unfortunately, I have a conflict tomorrow and won't be able to attend, even virtually.
Our D7 talking points for the meeting...
Here are my subjects for the D7 portion of the meeting...
...and John W is probably going to bring a few of his reasons for choosing to start with D7 instead of upgrading.
Any questions past these? And D7 insights YOU want to share?? Bring 'em! Better yet, let us all know here first...
