After two and a half years of development by hundreds of contributors, we proudly present Drupal 7: the best version of Drupal yet. With a refined and more intuitive user interface and hundreds of enhancements under the hood, Drupal has never been more powerful.

Along with the rest of the world, Buffalo's having a little party on Friday 7 Jan 11 at 7pm ET, the official date for the Drupal 7 Release Party. Stop on down to Coles for wings, cold beer, and hot Drupal 7 action! We've got the balcony over the bar reserved, along with two hours of open well bar and some wings. Please remember to log into g.d.o and SIGN UP to attend this free event!

Any interest?

We're a week away from D7's official launch, and the release parties are happening worldwide on Friday 7 Jan 2011. Is anybody interested in helping by hosting, sponsoring, or otherwise organizing the Buffalo and/or Rochester event? If not, I may call a Buffalo restaurant or two this afternoon/evening to reserve space for 4-40. If you have suggestions, I'd love to hear them here!

Here are the candidates:
- Cole's
- Buffalo Lab / Hackerspace (Brian Yurko mentioned it in an email -- need to follow up on that if we might have attendees)
- a gallery in Buffalo, probably West side
- ???

Note to contractors/firms: On a related note, this is a GREAT way to buy your client or prospect a beer and get them interested in D7 upgrade or startup projects. There are several D7 sites being featured as part of the release announcements, so bring a laptop or two to leave about! (I will bring a few, too!)

Buffalo Lab is still available

I am able to help facilitate the use of Buffalo Lab. We would probably need to bring in any food or beverages that help make things more festive. There is no site cost.

We have Internet access and space to work or present. If anybody has a projector, you may wish to bring it, as our screens and projector are rather low resolution. I don't have any existing content or planned demonstration of Drupal 7, so others are welcome to share.

I am also inquiring about the availability of the Ukrainian Cultural Center DNIPRO. This venue is open to members on most Friday evenings. Costs should be limited to out of pocket purchases. I am a member here, and considering the discussion about this date being significant to those in Ukraine sparked the idea.

What is needed?

For what it's worth, I'd put in a vote for a unified Buffalo/Roch shindig; in Buffalo. It looks like the Brians ahead of me have a good handle on the venue, so what else will be needed? Food? Drink? Absurd music mixes?

No, we need input.

PLEASE don't assume the venue is decided or that enough people have contributed to that conversation. What's needed depends on that decision. It'll be at 7pm SOMEWHERE -- so get an opinion, people!

(And Jon: If absurd music mixes are needed, you're it. :) )

If anyone needs a lift from

If anyone needs a lift from Rochester, I got me a Buick, it seats about twenty.

Hey, we're on a map!

Thank you!

We had about 25 Drupalistas and Drupal-curious at the bash last night -- just about capacity for that room at Coles! Many thanks to Jim Campbell at Black Cat Web for cosponsoring the shindig, and to Jon Daggar for signage.

It was a very good showing, the highlight of which for me (aside from seeing all of the regular WNYDUG members!) was meeting the crew from Roswell Park Cancer Institute, who are releasing their next Drupal site on D7 site next week. Woot! :)

The next WNYDUG meeting should be happening in a couple of weeks, and I'll post details very soon.

Thanks again!

Thank YOU, Brian!

Brian,

I thank you for thanking me, but kudos goes to you for being the major sponsor of Friday night's bash. It was a fun, interesting evening we all enjoyed.

Drupal 7 is exciting and I know we're all hoping for some really good work with it in the next few months.

Thanks again,
Jim Campbell
