I've recently been asked to compile a list of what's good and exciting about Drupal and how it stacks up against other systems such as Wordpress or .net nuke. Seems there has been concern at some of the higher levels if it is the right platform for us in general. I tend to think it is, so I'm asking your help in improving the list I've put together.

More showcase sites leaning towards not-for-profit would be very helpful. Perhaps down the line someone else will need a list like this as well!

  • The fact that it open source and made of open source components provides an argument from an ethical perspective. But also, being written in php by self selecting super-clever enthusiasts means that it's a good system and has a culture supportive of non-profit ventures.
  • Business argument: Drupal is on the ascendant, and with Acquia there is a strategy in place to bring it to the business market, alongside some of the bigger systems. It is a good basket to put one's eggs in.
  • Sounds good, but would also add some of the buzzwords management likes to hear:

Stability: drupal requires little maintenance once up and running
Security: drupal is safe for the organization and its users
Scaleability: drupal can grow with the needs of the organization
Modularity: easy to add new functionalities when required, or modify existing ones
On-brand-ity: ability to brand the site as needed
Useability: easy to manage for staff
Interactivity: engage stakeholders and clients externally through interactive tools now or in future
Community: large number of active and professional developers
