Hello everyone!

The June 24th meeting was attended by Tony, Doug, Becky and yours truly. The meeting was held at the Abbey (after hours); a mistake on our part for not finding out what hours they kept but we were graciously allowed to remain on site to have our drupal discussion. Needless to say, this was a very informal gathering.

Doug showed us a couple of his sites including one being vamped by his son. Way to go Tyler! Tre'von is envious right now (yes, I had to tell him but he is in Atlanta living it up for the summer).

I proudly showed off the church site that I've been working on. It is set up with Drupal 6 so I'm really digging deep and learning some stuff. Updates are constant if you are using D6 but I'm still enjoying it. I am now in possession of a book, Pro Drupal Development. Me and my guests sang all the way home, "mommy's got a boook, mommy's got a boook".

There is talk about heading out to the next Drupal convention so if you are on board for that, start saving your pennies. You will probably need every last one of them once you get there. I'm setting my sights for a convention so if there is enough interest perhaps we can look into some package deals.

Skype, Coffeehouse, Small Conference Room, what is your liking? I really liked the location on Tacoma but if we have to make other arrangements, what side of town works in your best interest? Perhaps we will have to scatter them around town a bit. I'm willing to travel East, West, North. South if I have to.

Since it had been mentioned, I would really like to see a Skype meeting set up real soon. I'm curious to see how those work.

Start talking.

Tanisha, THNX for blogging the minutes of the meeting!
AND Thnx 2 Tonyv for putting it together.
So folks... Tanisha has opened up the discussion for a July meeting!
What would it be about?
It seems that Tanisha and I are developing in D6. I am also working on projects that are firmly on D5.
How about we keep the thread going and see what people want to accomplish at the next meeting?

Tonyv, is your place still available?
Now we're back to the whole WHEN and WHERE kind of discussions that historically have gone no where.
I believe that the Skype meetings will be fun and beneficial but i also believe that it is HIGHLY important that we occasionally get in the same room with all our laptops and pound stuff out.

if every one local would reply to this thread and say, "Hey I like weekends and I'd LOVE some help with theming," or "I'm a weeknight kinda person and I need help setting up a basic Drupal site" or "Week days work for me and I am so lost on this whole CCK+Views stuff!"
By responding with details like this we can figure out how best to serve this ever growing group.
Do you realize that from month to month we keep adding 2 to 4 people! That's amazing? I'm convinced some are ghosts or maybe Joomla Spies... But whatever!
Reply to this post and make things happen. I have no problem holding separate meetings at different location on different days. I'd be happy to share what I know with anyone who needs the knowledge.
I look forward to some great replies from some Drupal Hungry individuals!

How about a meeting at the

How about a meeting at the downtown library? I would guess we could reserve one of their meeting rooms and enjoy their wireless access. It seems like a nice central location that nobody would need directions to.

For me, I like weekday evenings the best. I'd like to learn more about the following:

Using Panels
Theming
Where to borrow/purchase good Drupal themes
Calendar best practices
Where to find outsourced help!

Thanks all for attending in June.

The library sounds but...

The library sounds good and was one of my first choices but we would have to confirm whether or not there would be a charge for the room. They offer them free to not-for-profits but other groups have to pay. I believe its $40 for 4 hours which I would not mind chipping in to help bear the cost if that was the case but it makes a difference when we really don't have a strong core of attendees. If it is going to only be the two to three that seem to be most interested in meeting during the summer then I would suggest taking it to another location.

There is a high probability that my schedule will be changing in the next few weeks so for right now I will play it by ear. Weekends would be more ideal for me but I would be able to accomodate a week night. Thursday would be ideal.

I am interested in Theming
Creating Views
Using Panels

Library is good for me, evenings good

MSchantz - Tue, 2008-07-01 15:56

The best time and place for me would be downtown Indy, early evening on weekdays. I'm very much a newbie to Drupal, but I'd love to learn theming basics for 6.0 that I could use for a community group site.

If wireless access isn't required and I can be there, I'd be happy to offer my firm's (Bingham McHale's) conference rooms for these meetings. We're just off Monument Circle to the west on the NE corner of Market and Illinois. We would have room for 4-10 practically any weekday evening. Unfortunately, we don't have WiFi, though we do have lots of wired Internet access.

I like the library and evenings too

Hello! Just chiming in about my availability. Just a note, June was my first meeting of this group (at the Abbey on 6/24). I see a lot of learning potential!

My preference would be weekday evenings, but like everyone, it just depends on the particular day. I think the library would be a good option. They do have "study rooms" that are available for 2-hour blocks and can fit 8 people. I don't think there is a charge for one of those rooms, but we'd need to check with them to make sure and to reserve a block of time. I was at the central library last night and there were a lot of empty tables in general.

I am also a newbie to Drupal. I've tinkered with several sites -- I work with Tony at Promethius -- but I'm still learning a lot of the 'basics'. Theming, views, etc.

Library is getting rave reviews and it just got sweeter

Thanks Becky,

Central Library has 8 study group rooms that seat up to 14 people. They are free and on a first come first serve basis. There is one that we can reserve for the day/time of meeting. Weekday evenings seem to be what everyone is screaming so let me know what weekday evening is the best weekday evening. Being summer there should not be a lot of competition with school-aged children studying and doing homework.

My proposed dates:
7/10/08 or 7/24/08 (Thurs) :-)

Indy Central Library: Tuesday July 8th anyone???

DougVann's picture
DougVann - Tue, 2008-07-01 18:18

What do you say to Tuesday July 8th?
How about 6:15pm?
Is 6:15pm going to be a challenge for traffic? The meters are free after 6:00, so that should help.
I think if we go any earlier than 6:15 we'll have more traffic and less parking.
What do you think?

Doug, Did you see Tanisha's

Doug,

Did you see Tanisha's post above? It looked to me like she wanted the 10th possibly. Will that not work for you? At any rate, I could do the 8th if that's what ends up working. I like 6:15.

Thanks!

Tony

Let me try that again..

Yah, the tenth is fine. I overlooked her suggestion.
So is evryone cool with that?
If so, we'll "create an event" on this site and people can register if they are coming.

July 10th

Well it seems that there are three willing to meet up on the 10th of July at the library downtown. Would anyone else like to weigh in on the conversation? With a holiday weekend quickly approaching I would like to wrap this one up and get it posted to the group to accept rsvp's (not that they are really needed but highly appreciated).

Tanisha

I say post it and see who comes.

Back when I was the lone ranger in this group I would beg and beg for feedback. The problem is that most people have their email-notification turned off. They joined the group and have no memory of joining. Some may have never revisited the group since registering. Others pop in and out infrequently but never really get a sense of what's going on. And of course, there are the ones who are far away who really should be chiming in on the SKYPE topics but have not done so either because their email-notification is off or they are just inactive.

My point:
Don't wait around hoping for more responses. Pick a date. Pick a time. Pick a place. Publish it as an event. Show up and see what happens.
You will go crazy trying to cater to everyone while asking for feedback.
That poll that Tonyv started asking about interest in conference calls? In 14 days only 7 people have responded. That's 1/5 of the group and his poll-topic applies to the whole state of Indiana.

We'll have a nice, intimate meeting and we'll keep having nice intimate meetings. The smaller size will keep it all that more manageable.
So Tanisha or Tonyv, go ahead and post an event. I'm still trying to bring my average down for posts on this group. Time was when a user visited the page all they saw was my picture by ever single poll, post, event, etc. I am VERY thankful to the gang who has stepped up.
