Drupal Camp Colorado Open to Remote Presenters

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Because Drupal Camp Colorado is being held in the Micro Business Development Center that is home to Deproductions/Denver Open Media, we have access to equipment and bandwidth that wouldn't be available at many other Drupal Camp locations. This allows us to offer a remote presenter track at Drupal Camp Colorado.

I've offered to provide the technical support for this track that can connect with our Drupal Camp audience using a mix of technologies. The ideal configuration will utilize 2 machines on the presenters end. One box to run VNC (or another screen sharing solution). Another box to run a mulit-user capable version of iChat or Skype. We will provide both a fixed, wide shot of the audience as well as roaming, close-ups of people asking questions. The audio from the room will be mixed from multiple mics so we won't be reenacting scenes from Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

The Deproduciton/Denver Open Media facilities will support a very natural experience for both presenter and the audience. The goal is to make it feel like we've knocked a wall of the DOM studio and connected it to the room the presenters is in.

If you'd like to present remotely, submit a session proposal. There will eventually be options specifically for remote presenters, but for now simply indicate that you will be presenting remotely in the Overview area along with the best time to schedule your session in Mountain Standard Time.

Round table discussions with multiple remote users and local/remote co-presenters are also options to consider.

If you have any questions, feel free to email me at kevin@civicpixel.com.

cool! Keep us updated if any presenters go for this. a link to the event would be nice too. I won't be able to make a trip, but it could be cool to login & join the camp virtually.

I'd also be interested in knowing more about the technical aspect of how you are pulling this off. Is it all open source? what kind of server setup? I'd like to do something similar in for local LADrupal meetings that I've started taping & hopefully streaming this month or next in preparation for our next DrupalCampLA 2008

Remote? Me?

Chris Charlton's picture

Let me know if you would like me to do one of my talks remotely at your camp this year. I usually do Flex/AIR with Drupal, or I can do Views 2 (which I really, really like), and maybe some jQuery or PHP basics. I don't want to do a long session, but I'm down to remotely help/present.

My Slideshare posts are available on my site over at http://chrischarlton.us.

Chris,

We'd love it if you'd submit a session proposal at the camp's web site, DrupalCampColorado.org

Currently we're looking at 45 minutes or 1:15 for presentations. If that's too long for you, Ben Jeavons has submitted a "lightning demos" session which aims to give quick introductions to a variety of topics for 10-15 minutes each, If that's a better option for you then you can respond to that proposal with a comment indicating what you're willing to speak on.

Thanks,
Brad

Here is what I could consider...

Hi, I'd be happy to do so while I don't know if I have an education concerning Drupal and web design in any way. I've basically hired a web site design company to create the site. I could present my experience of what it's like getting a site made, while the owner of the design company is moving to Denver at the moment and maybe we could both just hold a session without planing and how the session is presented might be more of a "discussion" when we both present our experiences, while I'm sure he's fairly busy with moving so I can't "volunteer" him while he might be interested based on getting familiar with the Denver/Boulder Drupal Group.

Please let me know if your interested in this idea and I'll contact the person mentioned above.

One area I'd like to learn some things include how to "customize" a site in consideration of the "simple" steps involved in terms of after the site is "downloaded" how does on navigate to customize things. It's a "beginner" level consideration while I'd like to be exposed to this type of thing because I haven't even begun to start doing that because I don't know where to begin. Maybe the Denver/Boulder Group could develop a four weekend or day class to teach people this so they could hire designers while understanding how people getting sites made can develop "cost effective" plans to have made what is necessary, while presenting content or something can be learnt so people who want a site can administrate it to some degree and purposfully learn what is necessary to limit "designing" costs.

definite interest

Please do submit that as a session proposal. It is always informative for me (and I think other Drupal users) to hear what a newer user thinks. We forget so quickly just how complex certain topics can be and it is good to be reminded of that.

The more introductory items you mention are hopefully some of the things that will be covered as part of the DrupalCamp. Let's see if that doesn't happen, and, if not, we can then work on creating some sort of meetings or training to get you (and others) up to speed.

Okay

Would I submit the session proposal here or Drupal Camp Colorado? I might call in; "How to present your Web Site Design Business to look like the potential client is intelligent", presenter; One who has journeyed amongst seemingly alien human beings who make web sites to get a web site made.

Submit your proposal on the

Submit your proposal on the DrupalCamp website. http://drupalcampcolorado.org/sessions is where you can see some of the other proposals.

You might want to provide some explanation about your proposed title. ;)

Hi Laura,

Thanks for asking me to explain the proposed title. I hope your don't mind me mentioning first, I tried logging onto Drupal Camp Colorado and wasn't able to, didn't receive a new password when asked and signed up with a different user name and was told I'd get a log in confirmation and I haven't received any information concerning my intentions of signing up for the Drupal Camp. Could you help me with this or reserve a spot for me as I don't know what the problem is? I signed up with the email "chris@letssavetheworldtogether.org" if that helps.

About the proposal. I was asked to consider presenting a session at the Drupal camp and I wrote back Greg that I had very little web design or Durpal education and it was more along the lines of my experience of getting a site made that I was familiar with. Greg had suggested that a presentation concerning "customers" would be useful to some people so I proposed a session, with a "humorous" title, in light of some of the frustrations I've had, which I anticipate is something that designers experience but from a different position.

Also, I'm considered "disabled" due to "bipolar" disorder and had moved to Boulder last August just after signing a contract with a web design company and the "stressors" of moving created so "fun and interesting" circumstances concerning my "chemical balances" and communicating with the designers was a little trying based on the "chaotic creative" ways I was describing what I wanted for a web site. Things are better now.

Also, I was a Psychiatric Counselor for about 7 years and I'm able to be fairly "crazy" and manage myself well at the same time based on my education.

So, the proposal was supposed to be funny while I do believe I could present a useful hour long session based on my experience running group therapy experiences and simply put, I understand that a lot of people wouldn't know where to start in terms of getting a web site created and it just seemed to me that there are some obvious approaches in presenting material to potential customers that would make the design process much more amendable in terms of making the process of creating the "wanted" web site much easier.

Sorry if I offended you or anyone else, on of the "traits" of Bipolar Disorder includes "inappropriate sense of humor" which is a professional way of saying "crazy" people laugh at things that are funny based on unique ways of viewing things that most people wouldn't understand.

Please let me know if your still interested in me presenting a session. I think I could do an okay job based on the presentation being presented from the "customers" point of view. Basically, I'm trained in a "healing modality" of which works with what arises and spontaneity and to some extent the session would entail presentations of "designers" issues, as I'm trained and have experience with groups by supporting "participants" providing information where working with what arises and spontaneously nurturing "healing" business approaches is an aspect of how I would anticipate doing things, while challenging the attendees to resolve designer/customer relations within the session in that I'm sorta good at the kind of thing but typically as a Psychiatric Counselor.

Have a good day,

Chris
