Hey folks
Demonstrating just how visionary we were when we first conceived this group a number of years back, the core idea and structures behind it is now what the UK Government wants to do via their 'G-Cloud' program.
This is to pioneer the adoption of Cloud computing within government, but ultimately the real value driver will come from the extensive reuse of open standards, best practices and software, facilitated by Cloud methods.
- See their program here: http://www.cabinetoffice.gov.uk/resource-library/g-cloud-programme-phase-2
- My blog overview: http://cloudventures.ulitzer.com/node/1716064
As you'll see it's fundamentally a marketplace they want to establish, where there will be two main components: i) A catalogue of reuseable apps and ii) a Cloud platform for distributing and deploying them.
Via other routes I'm organizing a consortium of Cloud vendors for ii), and so now I'm looking for a strategy to do i). Essentially this would correspond with the Drupal principle of distributions, but would need more robust development and management. This is the basis of the opportunity, ie there will be funding to do so.
If you're interested in joining up just shout, here or to me privately.
Cheers, Neil.

Drupal for Open Government
We could start with a 'Drupal for Open Government' overview... then build from there...
Best practice solutions
Btw, the idea behind the Open Gov network is that it provides the business level specifications, ie this site will document the case studies and best practice models that will define the FOSS modules that are then replicated via Cloud systems.
here is some more info
here is some more info on how we are using Drupal for Open Gov:
We're tailoring our iFOSSF portal to offer 'Open Grantmaking' capabilities, to help improve how social organizations apply for and achieve grant funding.
This is intended to meet the operational needs described in the recent UK Government's 'Growing the Social Investment Market' policy.
