I don't care about the color, but the image is too much of a negative girlie stereotype. If this group isn't proof that females do something with their systems besides sending mushy text messages, what is? We may be chix, but we are not Barbie dolls!
Also, form a purely production point of view, that image isn't simple enough to reproduce well at all sizes and in all formats. It would probably make a nice t-shirt. But this gave me another idea I will see if I can come up with something to post.
However, as far as doing something besides sending mushy text... I'm not sure.
"What is" is an interestingly good question.
You sure make me wanna ask:
(a) What does a DrupalChix do?
(b) What are DrupalChix qualities?
(c) In what kind of way do DrupalChix portray themselves? (just for reference...)
My bad, I'm too lazy to Google "DrupalChix qualities" lol.
My inspiration comes from the DrupalChix that I have known so far (Angie B, Brenda B, Laura S, Addison B, Stephanie P)
Unfortunate for me to say but when I think of women in Drupal, they are the ones I remember (not that they are mushy or anything like that)
Production-wise, this one is just for fun and adorement. I'm open to suggestions as for a t-shirt design, wallpaper, or any arsty stuff. Do tell me what you think so we can design it hand-in-hand according to the taste of a DrupalChix.

I don't mind the pink, or the girly looking drop -- but she should be coding, or at the very least typing something succinct and geeky.
Even the new Drupal women are serious technicians, either in position, or rapidly acquiring mad skills -- so we should be portrayed with that level of skill. (lady drupal ninjas, he he)

What do DrupalChix do? They rock! They support Drupal as anyone else does, providing support, documentation, theming, development, great ideas, patches, silly banter. Whatever. It's the "I heart u" and the lipstick and heart which are bothersome. They give the impression of a Drupalchix who doesn't do anything of those things. It puts the focus on unimportant aspects. The "chix" part shouldn't be the focus, the "rocking" part should. ;)
In contrast, the originally pink but now red Drupalchix Ninja thing you made me was great.
Well, my 2 cents: I wouldn't wear it! If it were an adorable yet nerdy cartoon character writing some actual code instead of a slightly grotesque one in lipstick and false eyelashes IM-ing hearts, then I would not care if it were pink or not...
I mentioned this on another thread- but at the recent DrupalCon during the BOF, several non-native English speakers were taken aback by the use of the word "girls" in conversation about the women involved in the BOF and the DrupalChix group.
"Girls" could be seen as slightly demeaning, rather than sisterly or friendly as it may seem in North America. Also, we have to keep in mind that we have a wide age range of women in our group, from a variety of backgrounds.
The use of "pink" is a loaded color- from being little girls forced to wear dresses when we wanted to be covered in dirt and running around barefoot... I'd be wary of lipstick as well. With that said, I'm sitting in front of this computer wearing pink glasses ;)
It's a great effort tho, and it's good to start the conversation. Thanks for posting the pic!
I'd love to have a little tag to put on my site... but I'd prefer something simple I suppose?
Needs some action, like the drupal ninja -- leaping over problems in a single bound, squashing bugs in our bare hands, spinning out new code, painting beautiful themes, answering questions in the forums, writing meaningful documentation. Think superwoman with a laptop, arms flying in every direction :)
Hey chix! Hope everyone who made it to Szeged had a blast, was sorry to miss it!
Wow, I didn't realize there were so many comments now! When I originally saw this, I actually thought it was some kind of derogatory post, like a joke in bad humour, but was not familiar with the poster, so didn't want to offend by saying so. Seems to have sparked an interesting discussion!
Totally agree with all the above comments, and have something to add...which is, more imporantly:
If we DrupalChix are gonna have a logo, shouldn't one of us design it???
Not that I'm volunteering to take full responsibility, but I'll mull it over and if anything good comes to mind, will be sure to post!
Might be nice if one of we chix made the logo. I'd do it if I had the time. I just finished a graphic design course after all. :)
Perhaps I can tear myself away from Azeroth for long enough to do it...
I definitely like it visually, it's very clever :-) But in light of the discussion that's been going on... I have to bring up the issue that it is a sign that represents women (ie. sex, as well as gender) in a very binary (female vs. male) way. I am not about to put words in anyones mouths, but it just occurs to me that there may be some drupalchix that don't necessarily identify with that sign the way others would. I know that I'm probably opening up a can of worms, and that of course we can't please everyone, but maybe it's just something we should be mindful of.
I understand completely. My goal was to make our drupalness a variation on our femaleness, rather than making our femaleness a variation on drupalness. I'm not sure that any drupalized female symbol or feminized drupalicon will totally match up with everyone's gender/sex identities.

I wonder how Pop-Eye always get to know what's in Olive's mind. Could it be the Spinach?@!#
Gosh, I've been away for quite a while and I never expected to see such wild feedback in my entire Drupal life! (Wild --- meaning, cute & cuddly ok?). I was shocked to see 1, 2, 3.. nth comments. Not expecting attention. Definitely caught me off-guard.
Alright, alright. Calm down all of you! Control those female instincts before someone gets hurt :P (I'm not bluffing, just exaggerating).
I've learned a lot from the comments. This serves as a very introduction course to DrupalChix 101.
Hmm, hopefully I create something not-so-derogatory before I get flamed.
FOR YOUR CONFIRMATION LADIES:
I shall be noting these quotes for a new material. Object as you will.
The use of "pink" is a loaded color- from being little girls forced to wear dresses when we wanted to be covered in dirt and running around barefoot... I'd be wary of lipstick as well. With that said, I'm sitting in front of this computer wearing pink glasses ;)
No more Pink -- check
Eye-Glasses -- prescribed
Lipstick -- none, or, use Lip Balm instead (the over-the-counter brand)
Needs some action, like the drupal ninja -- leaping over problems in a single bound, squashing bugs in our bare hands, spinning out new code, painting beautiful themes, answering questions in the forums, writing meaningful documentation. Think superwoman with a laptop, arms flying in every direction :)

Meaningful Actions -- check
Flying notoriously in sexy undies -- I don't know if the two-piece costume will fit
La Femme Nikita -- Coding, theming, squashing, and kicking... what?
Okay. So no more baking, laundry washing, txting, IM-ing, and baby-sitting? Who'll do it then?
To all of us men out there, watch out. Women on the loose!
p.s. It'll take me 3-5 days to produce something. I'll be out promoting Drupal in our local area in the days to come
Thanks for the very interesting discussion. It sure is worth-while. I definitely learned a thing or two about DrupalChix.

Well, you do have a sense of humor - I'll be interested to see the next idea!
Actually, we are baking, doing laundry, babysitting, AND flying around in sexy spandex kicking butts - while working a few website wonders on the side ;-) ha ha
Against my better judgment, I am continuing to give the benefit of the doubt that this is all good natured, but I have to say that if you are looking to create "something not-so-derogatory before I get flamed." you may do well to stay away from such comments as, "Alright, alright. Calm down all of you! Control those female instincts before someone gets hurt :P (I'm not bluffing, just exaggerating)." and "To all of us men out there, watch out. Women on the loose!"
Your original post did indeed trigger a great conversation about how the Drupachix contingent wish to be viewed and represented within the greater community, but to speak for myself, the continued statements about our wild and crazy nature (what, we don't want to be demeaned and overly sexualized???) is wearing thin.
Again, hoping that this isn't the intent, but please, a little bit of common sense here, we're a smart and dedicated group and I don't think those kinds of comments are appropriate!
I agree with Ariane's post above. But, wow!, so many sexist comments in one post... Dude, I'm just going to assume that you just stepped off of a plane from some remote Island after being shipwrecked for five decades, otherwise I can't fathom why you would say such things, even in gest.
Posted by brenda003 on September 5, 2008 at 12:04pm
I don't think you meant any harm with your last post, but even I was plenty surprised. There was just a lot of the common female stereotypes in it, not sure if you meant by jest or you just need to keep hanging out around here, but it can easily bother people of any gender.
I actually really like this, too. The druplicon looks great and it's a funny scene. Bugito is going down!
heh, i actually just like Brenda003's logo alot. it's subtle- it's got a curl instead of a point.
i think something based on that- just some subtle changes to the Druplicon would be good. Brenda003, would you mind a logo that looked very similar to yours?
i think making it match the original druplicon- without the animation, etc.. and making it face the same way- and adding the gradation with the highlight would be good. it would be related to the original druplicon, and still be fun. also, it would be more flexible, with less detail it would look OK small or in black and white.
I agree. I posted the idea about adding action, but a simpler icon is better. Something similar but slightly different than the drupalicon would be perfect, a curl and some eyelashes, and maybe a different color (but not pink) are plenty to differentiate it.
I could definitely see DrupalChix shirts, and maybe a DrupalChix icon for our websites with something like that :)
[Edit] Actually pink might be OK if done this way.
Posted by brenda003 on September 5, 2008 at 11:59am
I don't mind at all! If you wanted to use the exact image, that's absolutely cool. I have larger versions somewhere, though I'm sure Marc does, too. I love it, I think it's absolutely perfect, so I can see how others would too! :) Maybe that could be our official "Drupalchix" logo!
Ooooh nice! I'm not a big fan of the colours of 3 or 4, but the rest are all good. I'd be delighted if we could use any of these tbh. It's simple, but gets the point.
i like the friendly look on their faces :-)
from the drupalchix ninja i like that it has more eyelashes (makes it more "girly") and i like the dark red, looks classy. maybe you could incorporate that? i'd do it with the file you put up but i dont have illustrator until monday :-(
Hey, that's great!!! Although I did kind of like the more mischievous look of the original 'ninja' version... but I'd definitely be proud to sport this (and thank you for not putting the lipstick on it, it's just not right!) As far as different versions...well, personally I'd add a set of nerd glasses, but maybe it's better it's plain, as then we can all add a little custom detail if we want for our own use. (And I'm being totally nit-picky here, but perhaps one more lash? It looks like sunglass arms or something to me a bit with just the two...)
Colour-wise, I do like the traditional blue, but might be persuaded towards a pink if it was a little more vibrant and less bubblegum coloured.
My vote is for #5. I absolutely love it. And I don't think it needs to be more girly or foofy - just being slightly "softer" is plenty enough. The message is subtle but clear: it's a Drupal chick.
I like the options here... both the simple and the action. I would like to see more of the different actions drawn. Maybe a library of choices that members can choose from would be nice, with a different one or two that are more of a consensous.. concensous ... pleh con...
Assuming you don't choose a complicated design, I could make some Drupalchix ceramic mugs for us.
I kinda like the way Heather's ones look friendly and smiley. The other ones are good too, but they look a bit too annoyed for me. I'd like to see Heather's ones with a couple more eyelashes perhaps too.
Yeah, I think 5 lashes is too much - there's definitely a caterpillar effect alright. It might be better if you changed the style of the eyelashes, maybe to something like the ones icelink provided. However, your original version with just 3 lashes was quite good.
i like the square, that is cool! it's nice because you can use it on lots of things, and change the color as suits you. i think i would just make the 'eyes' solid white, rather than transparent. but that's just me.
i went and added one more eyelash on the design i posted... not much of a compromise!
well.. more eyelashes and i thought it started to look kinda caterpillar-like...
I like heather's -- simple and to the point, just some small tweaks from the regular drupalicon, works good on T-shirts and such.
No offense to marc.robinson, but I also like the idea of a drupalchix icon created by one of the drupalchix :)
I think it's good to have multiple colors available depending on how it's used -- you can make it match your site or whatever.
We need a black and white version too.
So does anyone want to take a stab at adding some nice looking lettering to it to say 'DrupalChix'? It would be nice to have a version with no lettering, and another version with.
I really like the designs added so far and am excited to see such an interest in celebrating the women of Drupal. Several months ago, I was playing around with a similar idea just for the fun of it. This is what I had come up with so far.
Posted by lishevita on September 6, 2008 at 9:38am
I really like these eyelashes up at the top. I thnk that you can get away with more lashes if they are up at the top instead of on the sides of the eyes. But don't listen to me, I'm a code-only geek. I'm utterly useless when it comes to graphics design.
Oooh, lots of nice druplicons here :-) Perhaps I should retire my snowlady -- I've seen her described as phallic, and that's not an image I'm aiming for :-/
I like heather's best, and actually prefer the one with the fewest eyelashes, but all of them are fine, IMO. I see what you mean about the caterpillar effect, though. Perhaps it would help if the eyelashes are above the eyes, instead of at the sides?
For color: Can we please, please, please choose something non-pink for our official Druplicita? (Druplia? Druplienne? Drupilla?)
looks cool. i'd totally wear a t-shirt with any of the designs white on black.
marc- one thing- i was playing around with the square idea- thought of cutting out some eyelashes... but it occurred to me- on a t-shirt, the "big eyes" would be situated in a most provocative position(!)
meh, this is uninspired- but maybe someone has a good idea for placing the text?
Love it!!! Sure, the type face could use a little tweaking (I like the computery-ness of it, but maybe a slightly lighter font?), but all in all, it's awesome!
Yeah, the black is awesome. I have to say, I like the courier font. It gives it a cool retro feel. The only thing I would change would be to remove the dots behind the text but keep them around the rest of the logo.
Posted by marcrobinsone on September 5, 2008 at 11:15pm
Hmm... Provocative? I think this gives more reason to put more lashes when printed on a tee hahaha.
Anyway, here's my shot at pushing it forward on a shirt (I'm not letting go of my eye-deas just yet ladies. lol).
Now it all amounts to the most number of t-shirts sold.
--> SHIRT SALE! <--
On a serious tone, even though my material were not picked, I'm still happy to have collaborated with plenty of Chixs in this thread. Your icon should be created by a fellow DrupalChix. I agree that it's better that way.
I wonder what the rest of the 7%-10% would have to say...
Now, I return to the world of Drupal men. Which by the way is in a secret underwater conservatory.
Posted by victoire on September 5, 2008 at 11:09pm
plus I like the smile and confidence, I would put the eye lashes a little up... the dots above on black remind me of a pearl necklace... my classic side I guess!
I have to admit I'm not a big fan of the square logo on the t-shirts (sorry marc.robinsone!). I think it's, well unfortunate positioning :), and I think it's diverged too far from the Druplicon logo. Just my 2 cents.
I like the expression on number 5, but I'd like a red/pink-colored one! It's a great distraction to read the incoming suggestions and replies while I'm struggling with yet another Drupal-site!
Been lurking all week...I'm liking the expression 5. A little "hah, told ya so..." Color-wise, 1, 2, or a true red like Heather's avatar are my faves, though Drupal blue, I think, should be available as an "official" variant. The higher lash position looks a little more mischievous to me, for some reason (meaning that as a good thing).
As far as fonts, I've always been a fan of Lucida Sans and Gill Sans.
With the color variations, I noticed an odd effect: the appearance of a hole in her head. The spot below the curl should use a light version of the color of her face... On the white background (cncoleman #5) I didn't notice it so much. Very pronounced on the darker backgrounds, though.
Good call...I second that. Almost white, but not quite...the variety of color combos is nice too...the black is very versatile, going back to the discussion on how DrupalChix identify with their femaleness. Slap it on hot pink or fatigue green (or whatever else), depending on the attitude and personality you want to express.
Kinda symbolizes the common thread (via the icon herself), while being flexible enough to allow individualized expression through the accompanying color(s)...sort of defying a one-size-fits-all definition of DrupalChix while still unifying the wearers.
That's a design flaw. I just noticed in looking at the original Drupal drop that the reflection is where it should be--right on the top of the sphere-- but in this version, it is moved down, away from the edge. I'll modify it and post the file for others to work on.
As much as I love Heather's original, we at DrupalChix are obviously a democracy, so I say: we've got lots of options, let's vote! Three main issues to address: Design, Font, and Color. Please vote on your faves, and if any are too close (notably color), perhaps we can re-vote between the most popular options. Let's give it till 9pm (EST) tomorrow and then I'll tally them up (and see if we need any secondary voting).
Finally, I think we should choose one main color to use for shirts etc. although of course there would always be the option of using variations for individual use, and if popular further runs of t-shirts, etc.
Design: 3
Font: 1
Color: 2 - black on light (more inclined toward maybe a heather grey than white if "on white" is referring to a tshirt color...)
While it may not be right for the official DrupalChix design (should probably be more closely related to the original Druplicon), I do like Marc's black on white version of the eyes-dominant design.
A DrupalChix store on CafePress or Zazzle would be cool...
i really enjoy this whole process! it's so much fun! thank you for making the vote, ariane :)
before, i liked the placid friendly look of the original druplicon- but i love what cncoleman did with the twist of a smile! it's a great variation, but i would like to see the smile/nose a bit thicker, because i know how ink misbehaves. also there are a few odd things about the placement of eyelashes- which i would like to fix on her files (if she would post them?).
So my vote
1) - 3 with the expression
2) - 1 - but of course, i love courier so i am biased
3) - 1 - I would more likely wear a black shirt with white, but that is just me. otherwise, 3- for the blue version.
other than that, i love the idea that we could all choose our own colours- which ever suits. that is great.
since the deadline is so tight, make sure to give th heads up to friends for the vote!
It is kind of fun--first real group decision! I have to say, I agree about those couple comments about the thickness of the lines in the facial features, etc. I think it would be great if you can do a final tweak on the design before we do anything with it for shirts, etc. Thanks for offering to do that!
If you change the design again, you might want to have another vote. The smallness of the mouth and nose were intentional. If it changes, it will definitely change the appearance.
Posted by Grammarian on September 8, 2008 at 5:09pm
Design: definitely choice 3
Font: definitely choice 2 (I just have always really disliked Courier, so sue me!)
Color: 1,2,3,5 are all find. I think black and white are always an option second to "official color" and Drupal blue is good for consistency. I like a bright/dark pink or red too.
My local group (NYC) just had stickers printed and collected the cost (not a lot) via chip-in. However, they can be distributed in person. Laptop stickers are nice to have as well as a t-shirt (especially for thos of us who already own too many tees), is there any interest in those? I'm sure stickers or buttons can be done on Cafe Press too.
I could see an adaptation of the many blue droplets design ( http://shop.cafepress.com/design/27692261) where say a third or half of them are the "DrupalChick" in different colors.
I don't know why this didn't occur to me when zirvap was mulling over what to call the logo above http://groups.drupal.org/node/13342#comment-48619, but shouldn't it be the Druplette? It just seems perfect! :-)
Don't be too worried about the deadline, I just thought that it would be more straightforward to do a quick vote, only open a couple days--if we don't get that many votes by end of day tomorrow, it can always be extended. I have the feeling that there may be a pretty clear winner by tomorrow night anyway though, so there will likely be no point!
This one has the mouth a bit bigger (on the left) and the reflection is more like the original Drupal drop. The font is Lucida Sans Typwriter (still a monospaced programmer's font).
Posted by cncoleman on September 8, 2008 at 4:34am
Heather had some ideas for improving the eyelashes, etc. And it looks like there is interest in more than one color option. It may be best to wait for the results of the poll.
We can also post the file here so that people can either put it on cafepress or diy (as seen on Make).
Posted by marcrobinsone on September 8, 2008 at 6:38am
I have seen the video... not so impressed but it sure did give good ideas shirt printing.
Here in the Philippines, computerized t-shirt printing costs at about Php150.00 (abt $4) to Php 400 (abt $9) with the shirt of your choice (color, texture, size).
This thread make me wish we had something like Zazzle or Cafepress here.
note on the the eyelashes on the right- the very rightmost eyelash is a bit 'squished' into the other eyelashes. it's just a small detail, but a visual burr that snags my eye at least. it's not crucial.
I like the smaller mouth (how much of a problem is that going to be?) and I prefer the serif font that heather used. Also I would put the DrupalChix name below the icon instead of above it -- the curl on the top disrupts the curve of the circle on top which makes it look like the curve of the type doesn't match the curve of the circle, an effect that would go away if the type was on the bottom.
[Edit] and you could try offsetting the type on the bottom to wrap the bottom right corner instead of the very bottom -- kind of jaunty looking. One of the examples above puts it in the top left corner, so it's that idea, but on the bottom.
Also I wanted to point out that in addition to using this as a large logo in the center of a T-shirt, you could use a small version of it in the pocket area of a polo shirt, which would be a nice alternative.
I don't think any regulatory nonsense is really needed--we're all reasonable, and I think since this is for something fun, and it's been very collaborative and democratic so far, that would be overkill! Like I said, if there were any close results, knock off all but the most popular and re-vote. However, as I suspected, there are very clear leaders already:
Design: cncoleman's in the lead with 6 (heather's original following with 2)
Font: heather's with 7 (1 for the other option)
Color: Drupal blue has a strong 5 (with 2 for white on black and 1 for black on white)
I think it will be clearcut enough to post final tallies tomorrow night. :-) Then can do a quick bit of research on where to have them printed--likely something like CafePress so that we don't have to worry about someone managing the money involved.
May need to think of whether we want to print them at cost, or have a small profit sent to the Drupal Association as donations...might be a nice way to contribute.
ps. If anyone has a strong objection to increasing the thickness of the mouth, speak up--otherwise, I think it would make the printing a lot more likely to come out well if we go with that.
It's probably too late now but it would have been better to have one post with the options/designs and another for the votes...
As for the color, Drupal blue would be okay for me but I think red would make more sense as it screams Drupal and Chix within like 1 second of seeing it :-) I would really really really love to have a red one ;-) How about options for both or several color options?
And for selling them I can throw in Spreadshirt as a suggestion (http://www.spreadshirt.com), I have used it and there are options to sell the shirts with or without an added amount (which could be donated to the Drupal Association). Cafépress probably does the same so I wouldnt mind going with that if you guys say it's good.
YES! me too! red for girls and blue for boys. would make more sense as it screams Drupal and Chix within like 1 second of seeing it :-) I would really really really love to have a red one ;-)
Bettina
I skate to where the puck is going to be, not to where it's been. (Wayne Gretsky)
Design: 3
Font: 1
Color: 3 (I really like 7 as well, but I'm afraid it might 'clash' with the Drupal-blue when it's used with or next to the default Drupal colors)

As in the chick version of Drupalicon. ;)
Seriously though, I hope that the "how do we make our logo the prettiest" thread doesn't hold out as the longest or most important topic in this group.
"Seriously though, I hope that the "how do we make our logo the prettiest" thread doesn't hold out as the longest or most important topic in this group."
so funny, i know what you mean.
i was thinking of saying earlier that this was turning into the "what color is the bike shed" kind of conversation.... but actually it's bringing alot of people out of the woodwork, and i've gotten to know more faces/names of people in the group- so it's all-in-all a fun social topic.
Speaking for myself, this is the first thread I've really felt like I could jump in on outside of who's who type things...I'm mostly business-side these days aside from some tinkering here and there, and didn't make Szeged, so...mostly lurking.
But if anyone wants to talk marketing, needs assessment and solution development, or conveying the benefits and possibilities of Drupal to clients, I'm your gal...front-end dev in my recent past life, so CSS and JS are on the table, too...
I have really enjoyed following this topic and learning more about all of you. I hope to meet some of you at Drupal Camp L.A. this weekend. I agree this topic has brought the group closer and is a bonding thing. I love how cooperative it has been and positive.
Posted by codeknitter on September 9, 2008 at 1:42am
i'm late voting but I like 3,1, 4 & I like the blue
and I think drupalchicks, or drupalchix works, and then all of the other options are cool too. :)
I don't mind spending a long time on this thread, I think it's key to the whole 'how do you identify yourself as a woman using drupal thing', and I'd LOVE to see the image chosen used to update the groups page for our group.
Alright, well I think it's pretty safe to close the vote at this point--results were very strong!
Design: number 3 (cncoleman's variation on heather's design) with 11 votes (runner up, #1 had 2 votes)
Font: number 1 (from heather's version) with 10 votes (runner up, #2 had 3)
Color: number 3 (drupal blue) with 6 votes (runner up, #1 white on black had 2 votes, so if there's a chance to do 2 variations that would be a good second option)
So there you go, nicely done everyone! If I get a chance I'll look up pricing and details on those sites that were suggested for the shirts, but if someone wants to beat me to it, that'd be great! :-)
I'm going to make some Drupal and Drupalchix mugs if anyone is interested. It'll probably take a couple of weeks before the prototypes are ready, will post photos of them here then.

I created a Cafepress shop, using a generic name + email address. Is there someone in the group who will be the steward for this shop. Add new stuff, etc.
How about adding a raglan with a pocket logo as well as a center logo. I tried creating a black raglan with a black pocket logo and I really like the look of that, a little more subtle than the bigger center logo, but very nice. I can just create one of my own with the logo files, but maybe that would appeal to others, too.
If nobody but me cares about that option, then don't worry about it, I'll just create my own.
Can't take credit. :-) Cncoleman set up the first few items.
I tried to add your design and found that a basic (free) account can only have one design for each kind of item (in this case Jr. Raglan). There is a baseball jersey, which looks like a guy cut.
What we may want to do is change up the items every few weeks, keeping the official blue Drupalchick on light t-shirt and mixing up the others by request?
Since this thread has gotten so long and gnarly, I moved the most important things, the final design, the links to the files, and the link to cafepress, to another post, http://groups.drupal.org/node/14711, and made it sticky.

What'd I tell you about the
What'd I tell you about the pink. ;) Way too girly, man. Way too girly!
Now that you said it...
My mistake!
I never felt that pink could be bothering to some woman's beautifully batting eyes... ;)
I'm thinking, orange, light-blue, fuscia, sepatone maybe? I kinda have no clue as to what color women like haha.
Now that you said it, this could have been entitled: "Ozzing with Pink".

I'll post a few versions (with the less bright pink and colors).

Let's hope a guy in the group gives a good suggestion. ;)

Pink is ok but the image is too Barbie
I don't care about the color, but the image is too much of a negative girlie stereotype. If this group isn't proof that females do something with their systems besides sending mushy text messages, what is? We may be chix, but we are not Barbie dolls!
Also, form a purely production point of view, that image isn't simple enough to reproduce well at all sizes and in all formats. It would probably make a nice t-shirt. But this gave me another idea I will see if I can come up with something to post.

stereotype
Not Barbie dolls. I sure get that ;)
However, as far as doing something besides sending mushy text...
Marckee for Short
a DrupalChix kicks it
I don't mind the pink, or the girly looking drop -- but she should be coding, or at the very least typing something succinct and geeky.
Even the new Drupal women are serious technicians, either in position, or rapidly acquiring mad skills -- so we should be portrayed with that level of skill. (lady drupal ninjas, he he)
What do DrupalChix do? They
What do DrupalChix do?
I love your red Dupalchix
I love your red Dupalchix Ninja :)
Too cutesy
Well, my 2 cents: I wouldn't wear it! If it were an adorable yet nerdy cartoon character writing some actual code instead of a slightly grotesque one in lipstick and false eyelashes IM-ing hearts, then I would not care if it were pink or not...

girls v women discussion

Wow, I didn't realize there were so many comments now! When I originally saw this, I actually thought it was some kind of derogatory post, like a joke in bad humour, but was not familiar with the poster, so didn't want to offend by saying so. Seems to have sparked an interesting discussion!
Totally agree with all the above comments, and have something to add...which is, more imporantly:
If we DrupalChix are gonna have a logo, shouldn't one of us design it???
Not that I'm volunteering to take full responsibility, but I'll mull it over and if anything good comes to mind, will be sure to post!
I agree
Might be nice if one of we chix made the logo. I'd do it if I had the time. I just finished a graphic design course after all. :)

I definitely like it
I definitely like it visually, it's very clever :-) But in light of the discussion that's been going on...
Gender Sensitivity
I understand completely. My goal was to make our drupalness a variation on our femaleness, rather than making our femaleness a variation on drupalness. I'm not sure that any drupalized female symbol or feminized drupalicon will totally match up with everyone's gender/sex identities.

Again, hoping that this isn't the intent, but please, a little bit of common sense here, we're a smart and dedicated group and I don't think those kinds of comments are appropriate!

i think something based on that- just some subtle changes to the Druplicon would be good. Brenda003, would you mind a logo that looked very similar to yours?
i think making it match the original druplicon- without the animation, etc.. and making it face the same way- and adding the gradation with the highlight would be good. it would be related to the original druplicon, and still be fun. also, it would be more flexible, with less detail it would look OK small or in black and white.
just wondering what brenda003 would think?

I agree. I posted the idea about adding action, but a simpler icon is better. Something similar but slightly different than the drupalicon would be perfect, a curl and some eyelashes, and maybe a different color (but not pink) are plenty to differentiate it.

:-) Thanks again Heather, great job!
Oh so cool!

Yay!

The Face of #5 with color variations

an odd effect
With the color variations, I noticed an odd effect: the appearance of a hole in her head. The spot below the curl should use a light version of the color of her face... On the white background (cncoleman #5) I didn't notice it so much. Very pronounced on the darker backgrounds, though.
Good call...I second that.

Yes, there is a hole in head
That's a design flaw. I just noticed in looking at the original Drupal drop that the reflection is where it should be--right on the top of the sphere-- but in this version, it is moved down, away from the edge. I'll modify it and post the file for others to work on.
Let's Vote! Deadline: 9pm EST (6pm PST), Monday Sept. 8

Design: 3

Color: 2 - black on light (more inclined toward maybe a heather grey than white if "on white" is referring to a tshirt color...)
While it may not be right for the official DrupalChix design (should probably be more closely related to the original Druplicon), I do like Marc's black on white version of the eyes-dominant design.

i really enjoy this whole process! it's so much fun! thank you for making the vote, ariane :)
before, i liked the placid friendly look of the original druplicon- but i love what cncoleman did with the twist of a smile! it's a great variation, but i would like to see the smile/nose a bit thicker, because i know how ink misbehaves. also there are a few odd things about the placement of eyelashes- which i would like to fix on her files (if she would post them?).

My local group (NYC) just had stickers printed and collected the cost (not a lot) via chip-in. However, they can be distributed in person. Laptop stickers are nice to have as well as a t-shirt (especially for thos of us who already own too many tees), is there any interest in those? Font: 1
Colour: 3 (though any colours are okay really)
Oh and well done to everyone who made a design! They were all really great!
Cheers,

Druplette?
I don't know why this didn't occur to me when zirvap was mulling over what to call the logo above http://groups.drupal.org/node/13342#comment-48619, but shouldn't it be the Druplette? It just seems perfect! :-)
I Like Druplette

Regarding voting deadline
Don't be too worried about the deadline, I just thought that it would be more straightforward to do a quick vote, only open a couple days--if we don't get that many votes by end of day tomorrow, it can always be extended. I have the feeling that there may be a pretty clear winner by tomorrow night anyway though, so there will likely be no point!
Modified Reflection
This one has the mouth a bit bigger (on the left) and the reflection is more like the original Drupal drop. The font is Lucida Sans Typwriter (still a monospaced programmer's font).
Ooh, this looks even better.
Ooh, this looks even better. I think this is perfect.
So how can we move on and get some t-shirts made? Lots of Drupal Camps coming up, would love to wear one! Cafepress?
Eyelash changes
Heather had some ideas for improving the eyelashes, etc. And it looks like there is interest in more than one color option. It may be best to wait for the results of the poll.
We can also post the file here so that people can either put it on cafepress or diy (as seen on Make).
DIY
I have seen the video... not so impressed but it sure did give good ideas shirt printing.
Here in the Philippines, computerized t-shirt printing costs at about Php150.00 (abt $4) to Php 400 (abt $9) with the shirt of your choice (color, texture, size).
This thread make me wish we had something like Zazzle or Cafepress here.

note on the the eyelashes on
note on the the eyelashes on the right- the very rightmost eyelash is a bit 'squished' into the other eyelashes. it's just a small detail, but a visual burr that snags my eye at least. it's not crucial.
I like the smaller mouth
Also I wanted to point out
Also I wanted to point out that in addition to using this as a large logo in the center of a T-shirt, you could use a small version of it in the pocket area of a polo shirt, which would be a nice alternative.
Alternate text placement
the jaunty look sounds good. I'll post one with the text on the bottom this evening (PST).

Decision by "Majority"?
I'm just curious as to how group decisions are made on these matters (especially when it comes to official stuff).
Are there any guides (I'm just assuming that there is)?

Decision by...

YES! me too! red for girls

Druplette is a great name!
not Druplette
Druplette sounds to me like the cheerleaders for the Drupal men's team. Or the backup singers for a Motown band called Drupal.

Yes, sounds nice and feminine but also sounds like "doublette" which means second to the original first.

just drupalchick?
i just like the drupalchix idea- so i would just call it the drupalchick?
Drupalchickon!
As in the chick version of Drupalicon. ;)
Seriously though, I hope that the "how do we make our logo the prettiest" thread doesn't hold out as the longest or most important topic in this group.
I like Drupalchick, too. Or
I like Drupalchick, too. Or no different word at all (I usually use Drupalista).
what color is the bikeshed?
so funny, i know what you mean.
i was thinking of saying earlier that this was turning into the "what color is the bike shed" kind of conversation.... but actually it's bringing alot of people out of the woodwork, and i've gotten to know more faces/names of people in the group- so it's all-in-all a fun social topic.
more about the bikeshed:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_of_the_bikeshed
i think in this case, the "bikeshed" is fun, it's bonding, and serving a good purpose. ;)
Worked for me
Speaking for myself, this is the first thread I've really felt like I could jump in on outside of who's who type things...I'm mostly business-side these days aside from some tinkering here and there, and didn't make Szeged, so...mostly lurking.
But if anyone wants to talk marketing, needs assessment and solution development, or conveying the benefits and possibilities of Drupal to clients, I'm your gal...front-end dev in my recent past life, so CSS and JS are on the table, too...

This topic has been fun!
I have really enjoyed following this topic and learning more about all of you. I hope to meet some of you at Drupal Camp L.A. this weekend. I agree this topic has brought the group closer and is a bonding thing. I love how cooperative it has been and positive.

i'm late voting but I like 3,1, 4 & I like the blue
and I think drupalchicks, or drupalchix works, and then all of the other options are cool too. :)
I don't mind spending a long time on this thread, I think it's key to the whole 'how do you identify yourself as a woman using drupal thing', and I'd LOVE to see the image chosen used to update the groups page for our group.
RESULTS!!! 3, 1, 3
Holy cow!
This thread certainly became more lively since the last time I looked at it. ;)
If someone mocks up the winning design, I'd be happy to set it as the group's logo on the main groups.drupal.org/drupalchix group.

I'm going to make some Drupal and Drupalchix mugs if anyone is interested. It'll probably take a couple of weeks before the prototypes are ready, will post photos of them here then.
Cafepress shop
I created a Cafepress shop, using a generic name + email address. Is there someone in the group who will be the steward for this shop. Add new stuff, etc.

I see you did this.
I see you did this. Great!

Moved final logo files to sticky post
Since this thread has gotten so long and gnarly, I moved the most important things, the final design, the links to the files, and the link to cafepress, to another post, http://groups.drupal.org/node/14711, and made it sticky.
