Topic Suggestion

While chatting in #drupal-colorado we were offering suggestions to help get the new Colorado Springs meetup http://groups.drupal.org/node/13520 exposure. We came to the conclusion that it is a good idea to cross-post meetups to a number of locations. Naturally, this groups website is the primary location for Drupal focused individuals but there are a number of others that help expose non-Drupalers to what we are doing ... sites like http://meetup.com and http://facebook.com for example.

So the idea came to the table that perhaps there should be a Drupal module that helps facilitate getting the word out to these other sites. Turns out both of the afore-mentioned sites have API's which makes it easy to integrate with them from Drupal. So it sounds like we would like to propose a series of meetup topics between the Boulder, Denver, and Colorado Springs meetups that are intended to illustrate to the community how to build a Drupal module, get it into CVS and on the d.o project pages, and interact with each other throughout the entire process. We can tie people into how to use the #drupal-colorado chat room as well as the projects issue queues.

In essence, come learn how to be involved in the Drupal development process from A-Z in a series of working sessions where you will only be limited by your desire to participate.

Thoughts?

That would really be good. A cool module AND just the type of info that I need to accelerate my Drupal understanding.

See you there ... Paul

I like the tie-in with #drupal-colorado and IRC; some time spent on relevant rooms, etiquette, and the like would be beneficial.

Non-profit Discussion

At the DrupalCamp, there were conversations on starting a Non-profit to lubricate future events. These have continued as an email discussion between a few of us who are interested in pushing this agenda forward in one way of another.

We have a few options.

1) Do nothing and operate under the status quo
2) Umbrella under a friendly non-profit that is willing to act as a fiscal agent for us (De-production seems interested)
3) Use a third party "Incubator" organization
4) Form an independent non-profit

There are pros and cons to each of these scenarios. I think it would be helpful to give the DBUG group an update on what we have figured out and what our next steps might entail.

Bill Tomczak from http://www.4webinc.com/ has requested a few minutes of our time to talk about an upcoming event centered in the Joomla community http://cmsexpo.net/ ... The event is coming up the December and he is interested in working to bridge the gap between Drupal and Joomla to help educate consumers on the broader concepts behind the term CMS. It sounds like this is going to be an educational and informative Meetup ... looking forward to seeing you there.
