Third Thursday?

Shawn DeArmond's picture
Shawn DeArmond - Thu, 2008-07-31 23:37

The Sac DUG used to be on the third Thursday of the month. My iCal repeating event tells me that the third Thursday in August is the 21st.

I really hope you're wrong, because I couldn't make it on 8/14.

Care to clarify?

This isn't clarified.

Hey Shawn, Aaron:

I think third thursday is possible. We have second saturday...

Shawn, what about doing second Thursday? I'd really like to group all of these together, and we're doing animal adoption out of the WH offices on Second Saturday. I'd like to hold the dug BEFORE that, in case anyone coming has allergies or whatnot... that will give us a month to clear the place out before the next one. Totally random, I know, but it's something I'm concerned about.

What say?

Hey Jon

First of all, thanks for offering up your work space for the meetings. I think it's a great location. The lack of waitresses serving food and beer is a minor drawback, but it's been great when kind folks brought pizza. I'd be happy to bring food as well, but I don't think any one person (and particularly our gracious hosts) should have to feed the whole crowd. Open to suggestions.

I don't really care which Thursday it is, as long as it's consistent... and it's a Thursday (Thursdays are best for me). Third Thursdays have been working well enough for us for some time, so unless there's a good reason to change, we might as well keep it as is. I don't have animal allergies, so that doesn't bother me, but it is something to keep in mind. If it bothers even one person, that's a good enough reason to change it to second Thursday.

Let's talk about it at this month's meeting... on 8/21.

Shawn

So...

In the spirit of getting the date wrong on every invite (which we all seem to do).. Just making sure you were paying attention :)

It's the 21st.. My bad. Linux User's group is the second thursday :).

Okay, so clarification made. Anyone wanna present? :)

I'll present

Not exactly sure what I'll present yet, but I'll go ahead and put myself on the hook for a small block of time.

Thanks for borking the meeting date just to make me feel better about all my previous borkages. ;-)

Where is it?

Im still somewhat new to drupal (5 months or so) and am trying to learn more. i just found this group existed and am interested in going to the meeting. Are there any requirements to showing up to the meetings? Should i bring anything? what is usually talked about and discussed? Just curious as to what goes on with the meetings and what things get done.

Also where is the meeting going to take place, or has a location been determined as of yet?

Welcome!

I'm sure you'll be right at home in this group. We have a good mix of serious ninjas, people just getting started, and everyone in between. We usually start by introducing ourselves. What follows is some freeform discussion and eventually a short presentation or two. Nothing too formal, nothing too structured, just lots of good information being passed around by genuinely helpful and cool people.

Last time, WorkHabit was kind enough to host the meeting in their new offices and unless I hear otherwise, I'm going to assume it'll be at the same place this month.

WorkHabit offices
919 20th Street
Sacramento

You don't need to bring anything. Several people (myself included) bring a laptop... though it frequently doesn't even leave its bag. Being somewhat new, you probably have some questions that you've been banging your head against. Bring 'em, ask 'em, and I'm sure somebody will have the answer.

Looking forward to meeting you!
Shawn

Yea, we'll sponsor

Hey guys:

That meeting space seems to work well, and I'll build out the office in Sacramento to make sure we have a great meeting space for SacDUG from here on in (projector, room to sit, etc). I think we have seating for about 20 people right now, but that should accommodate the group for now. The office can actually hold like 100 or something ridiculous.

bigmack83, welcome man! It's always nice to have new members!

sounds good

Is this for me?

miteshb@drupal.org - Thu, 2008-08-07 16:47

I run a company with about 20 Drupal developers based offshore in India and I don't want to barge in and cause disruption if this is a pure play technical discussion. If this group's leadership can advise whether it is right for me to come in as an audience to understand what happens in these meetings and understand typical challenges in Drupal that people face.

Thanks

It's mostly technical

Caleb G's picture
Caleb G - Thu, 2008-08-07 17:07

...but there are several professional Drupal developers/Drupal-shops that attend the meetings, so all sorts of stuff other than just straight technical is talked about.

Does that help answer your question?

It's never pure play

Dugs are all about supporting the Drupal community. We welcome all comers, including business people (I'm CEO of a Drupal-based company). As long as you're there to support the community, and not using it as just for personal gain, you're more than welcome. The point is to facilitate sharing, adoption, and support new members to the community as well as advance the relationships and skills of the folks who've been in it a while.

Planning to make the treck!

I'll supply coffee and sodas (yes, some non-caffeinated for those who hold issue with it).

@Sloane: Pantry or otherwise, go for it! :)
