Calling all presenters: Put yourself on the calendar! Use the wiki...

Our March turnout was ten in total, and there were some comments about the 3rd Tuesday having a lot of conflicts. In response, and because I'm a maverick, how about Wednesdays? I'm scheduling the date, but please feel free to add your commentary or, better yet, suggestions!

Date: WEDNESDAY April 20, 2011 @ 7pm ET

Location:

410 Main St., 1st Floor
Buffalo, NY 14202

Presentations on tap include:

  1. Highly Themed Sites and WYSIWYG editors - Jon Daggar [rescheduled from March!]
How to balance concerns between: a high degree of design customization, Drupal standardization, and still making it editable for the user.  Particular focus on making sure the site doesn't look bad the first time the client edits it.

  2. [Insert your presentation here... add it to the wiki and ping me to update this event!]

I would like to offer an alternative space in Buffalo for this meeting near where we met last time. It's 410 Main St. 1st floor.

I only have DSL at this location (Fiber is being installed this month and may be ready in time), but DSL should be sufficient and better than the WiFi we borrowed. We'll have a conference room with 60" TV or projector available for presenters laptops - we are currently remodeling this space so it's a bit dynamic.

Let me know if this helps the group. I can offer this space for this and any meetings I can attend until it is leased.

Great!

We haven't had any other suggestions over the past week, so I'm taking that as a vote, Nick! :)

I'll add you as an organizer of the event, and modify the Event node details to reflect the change.

Thanks!

One more presentation?

Jon Daggar's still on deck to give his rescheduled preso on his client-facing practices for Drupal theming. Anybody feel like showing a custom module or something "tricky"?

410 on 4/20? 10-4.

Oh, and Jon--I'm hoping you will have time to cover security aspects of WYSIWYG button choices, based on user.

i think it's more client-focused

I think Jon's focus is more the "here you go, don't break anything" for clients talk, and making sure they have slightly less rope than needed to hang themselves. Because that's what wysiwygs make us contemplate.

I agree, though, that there is a security consideration when deploying wysiwyg for anonymous users -- input filters come in really handy in this case.

Hi John,Brian's right-- my

Hi John,

Brian's right-- my consideration is more for the client. This pres is actually turning into "Client Relations for Drupal" as I write it.

If deploying a WYSIWYG to non-secured users, my strategy would probably be to pretend the WYSIWYG wasn't there and set up the input filters as I'd want, then reverse-engineer the feature set of the WYSIWYG to work with those filters. More on this tomorra.

That sounds fine by me,

That sounds fine by me, Jon.

By "tomorra" I'm inferring you mean in person, Wednesday. . . .

Thanks!

sounds good
