Following on from pau1_m's suggestion of a glasgow hacking event
Hack Social
The glasgow hack
Site : hacksocial.org
Location
STV
Date
15th July 2011
IRISS are one of the sponsors for the event and will pay for location, refreshments etc.
Event hacks day.
We're aiming to get maybe 3-4 groups each of hackers and non-hackers and organise them into teams who will then hack together pieces of technology for the non-hackers, each group of hackers should be 2-3 people.
During the hack small talks & workshops will also take place for the non-hackers (which is often an issue at these events)
"using twitter in your organisation" - by me
"open/breakout workshops" - facilitated by someone from IRISS
(tbc) Alex Dunedin from ragged university. discussing social capital
At the end of the day there will be a quick presentation by each group, a couple of awards and a glass of beer/wine (free as in beer ! )
Once we have a date arranged I'll post here with links to supporting material for both hackers and non-hackers, as well as a holding page/microsite for the event and an eventbrite/meetup page, but feel free to express interest offer suggestions etc.
Booking is now open eventbrite

a website has been arranged, since there may be the chance to have other jack social events, I'll try to post a link to a holding page sometime over the weekend (if anyone fancies helping with a little design that would be awesome).
Since we now have a fixed date, I'm looking for developers to sign up, I'll provide a link to eventbrite for sign-ups. Being a Drupal (or even a PHP ) developer is not required, plus we'll be happy to mention companies who send some coders in our publicity.
If you know of any groups or organisations who might be interested in attending or passing the word around, please pass this on (or let me/diarmy/pau1_m know)
Lastly if you know an organisation who you think would like to be hackee's at the event please send me details and I'll happily contact them (requirements for organisations are charitable/not-for-profit , small (under 50 people), and local (Glasgow/Strathclyde/scotland based) ). While not a requirement, we've been in talks with another organisation in regards to funding/sponsorship, their criteria is for the organisations to deal with people with lift-long health conditions.
We're also hoping (if all goes well) to do similar hack days in other cities (dundee, perth, aberdeen and edinburgh have all been mentioned).
