Splashy Drupal adventure in Palawan
Amazingly, I did not get stranded at the airport this time for a change! (Thanks Cebu Pacific for improving your services at NAIA Terminal 3). The flight was good and I even won a tote-bag at the in-flight mini-game! Yay...err. Fortunately I arrived in Puerto Princesa in one piece.
This is my second time in the wonderful island(s) of Palawan. So much to say... I brought my development work with me. It means I'll be splashing some Drupal love here and there (puts the fun in the "work-and-play").
Aside from my tour-related itinerary, I plan to do one/more of the following:
my to-DO list
- finish my web dev projects while touring the scenic islands.
- connect with Schools and Organizations and encourage them to use Open Source systems/applications (and Drupal!).
- find a good apartment for a 1-month stay (possibly with internet and a cool landlord).
- try to touch a crocodile this time around (I freaked the first time ugh).
- befriend expats. Find more people to join gdo/philippines.
- compare the price of grocery items in Makati vs. local stores (e.g. NCC).
- control the impulse to buy souvenirs.
- and many many more in my Google Calendar.
Please, if you do have some tips, let me know. It would definitely give a time-worth-spent here in this paradise (paradise = free internet in the hotel). Even better... I wish I could meet with Drupal users here too. That would be very awesome.
So far so good... I love everything in this island.
Thanks to my family for understanding my need to travel alone. Oh and also thanks Jay A. for letting me borrow your cool laptop bag!

Find Any Palawan Drupalistas?
That's awesome. Palawan (and the nearby islands) has some of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen. Be sure to do as much island-hopping as you can. The snorkeling is great too.
As for advice, just be aware of the electricity policy wherever you may be staying. At my place of accommodation, they only turned the power on from a certain time until a certain time each day. So we always had to be aware of what time it was. "Coding by candlelight" might be fun the first night, but maybe not every night. And unless you start a fire...remember that no electricity means no hot water. :(
Do report back if you find any Drupal love out there. Who knows, maybe you could start up a Palawan Drupal Users Group...
Hot Water
Just got back from island hopping. Oh, and I did spot a Dolphin! It's gorgeous. My, my, my...sql --oops Dolphin. :P
I was not aware that you visited Palawan. How was your stay? Hmmm, I'm pretty sure the beaches there in Hawaii are more prestine.
Anyhow, we lurked at Pandan island, Snake island, Starfish island, and Lulubog-Lilitaw (LuLi) island. I must say it's a wild experience... except for the sunburns! Ouch. I should have used SPF lotions but I didn't. :( It's photo-ops with friends, water-dogs and starfish all throughout the day. Endless sunshine too. Now I'm restless... low-batt (low-energy) as we call it here.
Suprisingly, I have adjusted my body to bathe in cold H20 here. Yes the electricity power-outs are not enticing either especially when I'm on work-mode.
This is my second time, but nevertheless I'd like to explore more. I always hated the food-stealing monkeys at the underground river and the enormously long abortion road so... that spot is off my checklist.
Tomorrow is a new day. I'll start it by visiting contacted organizations/schools that are interested in open source and potentially Drupal. It'll all be part in the process of "sharing the Drupal love". No luck on finding a Drupal user here yet. :)
ABORTION ROAD??? what kind
ABORTION ROAD??? what kind of road is that? maybe you can bring the food-stealing monkeys to the abortion road so they don't multiply. hehehehe

Technology for organizations. Open Source. Consultancy. Training.
the best idea I've heard so far!
LOL. You are right. I should definitely bring those mammals so they can stop doing their monkey business.
BTW, it is called the "abortion road" because when you travel from Puerto Princesa to Sabang (going to the longest Underground River cave), you need to drive through a super-duper rough-road ("malubak" in Tagalog). Hence the title because you'll end up being cranky when you pass by this road.
Beware: Pregnant women not allowed.
Wow you're cool dude, Never
Wow you're cool dude, Never been there, Hope someday I will too.
Enjoy and goodluck man!!!
