Hey guys some of you may know this but for those who don't. I make homemade candy, it's kind of a hobby but I'm trying to do something bigger with it. So I want to start working on a site in Drupal, that will allow me to display products and make them available for purchase. My question is where should I start and what modules do I need for this? Anything I have questions about I'll run your way, but for right now I'm just curious where I should begin.

The first thing you will

The first thing you will want to do before you start playing with Drupal is deciding what information you want to post about the candy and how you're going to organize the candy. After you have figured that out, then you can start mapping your idea to Drupal in the form of taxonomies and CCK node types.

To get started, walk yourself through how you expect a user to use your website. For example, when somebody comes to your site, you may want them to be able to navigate to the different types of candy you have on your site:

  • Hard Candy
  • Chewable Candy
  • Chocolate
  • Etc...

This could be your primary navigation and would most likely be generated by a taxonomy list in Drupal. You'll most likely have a content type called "Candy". The default content type has two fields, Title and Body. You need to determine what other attributes about the candy you want to collect. For example, to describe candy, you may have these fields:

  • Candy
    • Title
    • Description
    • Calories
    • Sugar in Grams
    • Etc...

This list would turn into a CCK content type.

You really need to define how you plan on using your candy site before you bring Drupal in the mix. Once you have defined your needs, then you can begin to map your needs to Drupal.
