Save the date - Drupalcamp Galway - April 4th 2009

Hi all,

Myself and Stephane have agreed that we will organise the next Ireland Drupal meetup .

Subject to confirmation, the venue will be DERI building at NUI, Galway.

The proposed date is Saturday April 4th 2009.

We've just thrown this out now, so people can plan early,
[and raise objections early too if needs be :-) ]

More details in due course.

Regards
Alan

Whohoo!

Whohoo! Let me know if I can do anything to help.

Also, fyi, there's OSSbarcamp the weekend before in Dublin (http://www.ossbarcamp.com/) - it's all on open source and I hope to be doing a presentation on Drupal. So the timing is perfect, the ossbarcamp will be a great way to promote Drupal, and also promote the Galway Drupalcamp. Yay!

Clashing events!

alanburke - Mon, 2008-11-24 15:30

One of the best ways to help right now, is to make us aware of clashing, or potentially clashing events.

So we wanted to avoid
Drupalcamp Manchester [no date yet]
Drupalcon [Early March].

Any barcamps etc.

That OSSbarcamp looks good - I might try and go too.
There HAS to be a Drupal presentation there, and spreading the word about our meeting the following week would be perfect!

Alan

I'm keen to hear more about

I'm keen to hear more about the event and the plans. I suppose you guys are handling all the promotion.

For the first event, we did alot to cover the educational sector and open source developers/users, etc. We should see what other sectors we can connect with.

I was contacted by someone after the event we had at DIT. He was really bummed out he didn't know about it. His office was right across the corner from DIT. He's a web developer in the NGO/Charity sector, and I think there are alot of potential Drupal users in that sector.

I would like to also see more people from the design world in Ireland. I think there's alot of potential for independent designers or small design houses to get into Drupal too.

Need any help finding places to promote?

I have friends in the NGO

I have friends in the NGO sector that we can follow up with. I've added them to the marketing doc Scor would have shared with you. You should add any additional contacts you have there. It's great to have them all in one central place.

Distributed promotion

Not at all. Once the dates are fixed, anybody will be welcome to help and promote the event. We'll need a volunteer to make a poster, others to post the event in their social networks etc. This is why I started putting together a spreadsheet so that we are ready to advertise whenever we decide to fix a date (probably in mid January when most people are back from holiday). I can share this with anybody interested in getting involved in the marketing (already shared with Alan, Heather, Stella and John).

We can target any public really, there is no reason to restrict ourselves to PHP programmers. The NGO/Charity sector will be indeed one of our main target. I'll post our ideas for the event in the next days and all this will make sense.

I somehow totally brain-farted and missed the spreadsheet! I will check it out now :) Glad to help out in any way. I posted the original .ai files for the poster, and I could help out bringing any of your napkin-sketches to life.

Any chance of a doc sprint "track"?

I'm looking at camps around the world to plan docs sprints at, both to get work done and teach others how to carry on their own doc sprints. Ideally I'd like to have a space (could be a table or a small room or a corner of a floor ;-)) where I could set up camp most of the day and people could come and go to work/learn as they wish. I'd also love to do one or two presentations (about docs and/or other topics, as wanted). So, let me know if you think that is workable in your space. I'm hoping that the camp in the UK will time well with this so that I could go to both.

Lullabot loves you

sure there would be no problem! that's a great idea and the irish group would be honored to have a lullabot coming over. I have pre-booked 2 rooms beside the main conference room so you could use one of them :)

Oh you should definitely

Sponsorship - web hosting

I was just reading the plans for the next Drupal event in Galway and saw that you need sponsorship for web hosting. Annertech would be delighted to provide free Drupal hosting to the two charities involved in the event. We can provide free hosting (indefinitely) as long as the sites don't get too large or complicated, one year otherwise. However it sounds like you just want to develop 2 straightforward static sites, so that shouldn't be a problem. Lemme know what you think.

I think this is a great idea guys. I really like the idea that we can help some charities out. I'll try to help in any way I can, just lemme know what I can do to help.

Cheers,
Stella

Thanks Stella for

Thanks Stella for sponsoring, we'll gladly take Annertech as one of our sponsors :)

original name for the challenge

We need to come up with an original name for the challenge. So far we have:

- Drupal n'go (used previously in the french equivalent challenge)
- Drupal in a can
- Drupal to go
- Instant Drupal

What else do we have?

I do like the "Drupal n'go"

I do like the "Drupal n'go" cos it's a play on NGO... quite clever really

Just a note to confirm that io1 have agreed to be a sponsor for this, scor has the details. Hopefully a few of us will make it down.
