Monthly Drupal meeting in Galway

As I was suggesting to Alan yesterday, we should organize informal meetings once a month or so in Galway where people could bring along their site and ask all sorts of Drupal related questions. I'm not sure how many people in this group would be interested: it would be great if those leaving around Galway could leave a comment to gauge the general interest. There are more people in Galway who would be interested but who are not subscribed to this group yet.
Optionally there could be a topic decided in advance if some users are willing to present or to learn about something specific.

Its a good idea - there's a few of us who use Drupal enough to warranty a monthly meetup.

great to hear back from you Vincent! long time no see. How about meeting every second Wednesday of the month at 7pm at DERI? (first Wednesday of the month is the Linux User group meeting). That would be next Wednesday 10th.

Normally 2nd Wednesday of the month would be fine. But not next week as I've some other stuff planned. Christmas is coming up fast and it might be difficult to get together before then.

Found out about this group a second ago, after working with drupal for quite some time now.
The great surprise was that events will be in GALWAY, and not Dublin which is really awesome.

First Meeting Held
Hi all,
Myself and Stephane went ahead with this last night.
We always meet up from time to time to talk Drupal, and we now have a regular slot.
2nd Wednesday of the month, 7pm, DERI, 1st floor [end of the corridor].
Any Drupalers welcome, regardless of level.

I cycled from Liosbaun to Rahoon after work -
picked up my laptop and then hopped in my car over to Dangan.
Loads of time to spare.

Not everybody cycles or drives. I understand DERI can be a bit far if you are walking and live on the eastside. From the main Campus it's about 15min walk, in the same building as the nurse library.
We could probably do one in town some time next year. Really we don't need such a big venue as DERI, and it'd be more informal in a pub! I think Massimo, Bierhaus and Roisin Dubh all offer free wifi.
@Stella: just Alan and me. I admit we didn't do any special advertisement this time and Vincent could not make it. January 14th should see a better turn out.

Sorry my plans fell through on the visit to Galway last week. My plans were changed re: Limerick, but I will be making a trip down at some point in the next term.

yes, there is free wifi at the house hotel, and since it's a few of us meeting every month, we don't really need a projector.
5 of us made it to the
5 of us made it to the meetup last night: Thanks Alan, Vincent, Cormac and Leon for coming! We talked about our Drupal sites, installed the admin_menu on Leon's and Cormac's sites, and did some contrib modules and core update. There was a security core release last night (6.9) right after the meeting so you'll get a notification in your admin section, but none of the sites we looked at last night are affected so there is no rush to update. Modules highlight: img_assist and Stella's Lightbox2.
Next month we'll probably meet on Campus, since Leon and Cormac might be able to host us this time. More information to come soon.
