Speed up content delivery using technologies like Zeus

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Hi Everyone,

I was thinking if some advanced server technologies can help to speed up the Drupal Site ?

Something like Zeus (zeus.com) or Litespeed (litespeedtech.com).

Will they be compatible with Drupal.

And has anyone already tried any of these or some other solutions.

I am not very good at programming and linux, so my question may not seem very intelligent to Geeks.

Best Regards

predefined or custom solution?

you see for solution, may be it will be better to pay for Linux admin to configure free software - in this case in the feature you will have possibility to change admin and/or extend solution.

As example solution:

  • lighttpd as content router/proxy
    - delivery static content by itself
    - take generated content from separated optimized server/servers
  • mysql read/write cluster with mysql proxy or adopted drupal database driver

in this type of solutions you will not pay for software, for admin work and support only. This will allow you to sell your project without problem with licenses.

In any cases support is important for you.
one of my client (yes only one) use Zeus, (ZXTM GLB) with 7 dedicated servers and MySQL cluster - I don't know about problems with this solution.

Zeus comes with it's disadvantages...

Clean URLs are a pain to setup using Drupal with Zeus. You really need to know your way around the Zeus Rewrite script, which is very different from the .htaccess script. Some modules like Global Redirect don't play well with the current zeus rewrite script that has been offered up at http://drupal.org/node/46508

I've only had experience with Zeus with one client, and I've had little access to any real zeus configuration. There was a control panel that let me provide an alternate rewrite script.

If there are people happily using Drupal installed on a Zeus Server, they are being very quiet about it, because there is little to no documentation about running Drupal on Zeus.
