Anyone interested in a Charlotte area meetup?
Are there any Drupaleers in or around the Charlotte area that would be interested in starting a regular (monthly?) meet-up?

Perhaps
I've been somewhat associated with the Asheville area people in terms of discussing a meetup, but I would be just as happy to come toward Charlotte -- since I'm in Boone, anyway, they're both about two hours away. So, yeah.

yes!
Maybe this thread is dead (first post since 12/08), but I'll try to revive it. I went to Drupalcon DC and had a great time. I'd never installed Drupal but went anyway to learn stuff. I ended up meeting some friendly folks as well- the Drupal community seems thriving and swell.
So, we should get together. I'm in Charlotte but wouldn't be against traveling a bit.

yes!
i'm based in boone but i'm in charlotte a lot for work (and play) so i'm in... depending on when, of course.
Expanded area?
If there aren't enough folks in the Charlotte area for a meet-up, maybe we should combine the Asheville, Boone, Charlotte areas for a joint meet-up. I'd be happy to travel to work with others on Drupal. :-) We could possibly rotate locations too if need be.
Conover ...
Sounds like we need a Conover meetup group then :)
After looking at Google Maps, Conover appears to be one hour from Charlotte, Boone, and Asheville.

Like it a lot. :)

Works for me...
I'd be good with a Conover meet-up. Anyone familiar with that area? How many folks would we have?
Conover
Well, all I know is I have passed through there a couple of times.
Between Conover and Newton it is a nice little size area. Lot's of small businesses, between the two cities (neighbors) the population is close to 23,000 and Hickory is just around the corner, about 10 miles away to downtown area.
I would think perhaps a restaurant might have a small room for meetings. Hotels may have conference rooms, but those are usually expensive.
I started to call downtown newton business group, and could also call the Catawba County Chamber for ideas. I think what we need to know is how many people will want to go - without this information trying to locate a spot will be hard.

Libraries for meetings
Libraries often have meeting rooms. So far the libraries I've used have been free and have had wireless.

The library works for me.
We should probably look at a date... that will help folks decide if they can make it or not.
Should we shoot for sometime in January?
suggestions
Suggesting Jan 17, 24, or 31 (all Saturdays). I have some company until the 10th, so couldn't make it till after that.

Saturdays
Saturdays work best for me too since. Any of those are ok right now.
Saturdays
I'm okay with Saturdays, but not the 31st.
Drupal Training?
I've been organizing the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill Drupal group and there's some interest in have a training session or DrupalCamp. Are any of you interested in helping plan it?
I'd help
I'd be willing to help. I'm in Charlotte though.

Charlotte Meetup and NC Drupal Camp
I've been driving from Asheville to Galax and Durham for Drupal gatherings. If the date worked, I'd also go to the Charlotte area.
I'd love to have a DrupalCamp in North Carolina. I have attended Camps in other places while traveling around the country and have some ideas about what I thought worked and didn't. I'd be happy to serve on a committee.
Charlotte
I'm in Charlotte now. An unreliable car makes it difficult to consider much of anywhere else. I am committed elsewhere on the first and third Saturdays of the month.

DrupalCamp NC
Appalachian State is in the process of converting all their web sites to Drupal - they are real excited to become part of the community, and one of the things that was mentioned was the possibility of holding a DrupalCamp at App. If anything comes of it, you'll be the first to know!

And, moving forward...
There definitely sounds like there's enough interest overall from the area, but we'd need some people to drive a little.
I propose we do a meetup in Hickory, to attempt to collect people from Charlotte, Asheville, and Boone. Hopefully we can set up a car pool to get more people to go.
1) When should the meetup be:
-- weekend or weekday?
-- month? (I propose May to give us adequate time to plan)
2) What shall we do?
-- social event, get together for dinner and Drupal talk
-- development/coding get together, where people can work on their sites and get help from other members?
-- a training-type event - where a couple people present things?
Anything else?

Hickory in May sounds good
Glad to see energy building around a "western" NC meetup. I'm in Winston-Salem and am definitely interesting in meeting, and am available for car pool if anyone nearby needs a ride. I think we may have more who can go on a weekend (that is my preference). I'm relatively new to drupal, but excited about it; I'm happy to talk about what I am doing / want to do with it. I am not familiar with possible venues in Hickory. Anyone have suggestions?
Meet-up
I found a community college with a computer department and sent an email to see if there might be interest in hosting. Will post a response when I hear back.
Meetup Location
Hi All,
My local Linux users group has access to rooms at Wake Forest Univ. 2-2.5 hours drive from Asheville about the same from the south side of Charlotte and about the same from Boone.
I know that both Forsyth and Guilford County's community colleges have computer labs sponsored by RedHat. I need to get off my butt and pursue access to these labs.
99% sure I can get space at Wake but what date? And is Wake Forest Univ. good for others? The date is _very important: a date that does not conflict with graduation or other events.

Meet Up dates
I certainly don't want everyone to plan around me but if possible, I'd like to have a meet-up from May 22 to June 6. I'll be in Texas the rest of May and leaving for Chicago in June. I really want to participate. Wake Forest sounds like a great location.
A vote for Winston Salem
I went to school at Wake and have friends in Winston so I like the idea of meeting there. Over the last few years several new drinking spots have popped up, which seems like the thing to do after a long day of Drupaling.
Almost any time is ok with me, I'd just like the date to be set at least a month in advance.
I've never actually developed a site using Drupal, so I'd mainly be interested in learning the basics. Hopefully I'll have a chance to get an install working so I don't have to go to the meetup completely blind.
Yippee!

If everyone loves the idea
If everyone loves the idea that's great, or if the total number of people would go up that sounds good too.
On the other hand if a majority of people are Asheville + Charlotte, I think it would make a lot more sense to go with Charlotte or Conover. Charlotte would be immediately close to those in Charlotte, and only 1.5 hours from Asheville. Conover is like 50 minutes from both. Having everyone drive for two hours seems counter intuitive. Though if everyone likes the idea, or a lot of people are close to Wake, then I won't argue with it.

Conover
As was discussed last time, Conover seems to be about right in the middle of Charlotte, Asheville, and Boone. I believe someone suggested seeing if the library in that area could provide a space.
