is anyone working to integrate diaspora with drupal? it seems that at minimum, hooks could be made to connect a drupal user base with a locally-running diaspora pod. this would allow a drupal user the option to have their account "enabled" as a diaspora user too. from there, more could be built, including sharing activities (posts, comments, etc) via the diaspora pod to the greater diaspora network.
i was inspired to ask because of this blog entry about diaspora pod communications.
[edit: the above blog entry, sadly, is gone. also, their dev blog seems to be down today, sigh. it seems like this link might be useful, if they ever get their blog up again. sorry, all.]

I had the same thought. In many ways, it would be using Diaspora to achieve old-skool fidoNet connectivity between sites.

I have diaspora invites in case anyone without an account would like to check it out.

I would be interested in seeing this too!
And Steven, please can you send me a Diaspora invite to daniel at daha dot co dot uk? Thanks!
me too
i would really love to see the end of it.
i guess the higher the level of integration is, the more new horizons to be seen for drupal itself.
Have gotten pretty far
Have been able to make Drupal a consumer of all the federation messages, and also provide users that can be followed. Just need to do the sending of messages based on who is following each user next.
I can create a sandbox project if there is any interest by anyone else in playing with this. But so far, pretty cool to see diaspora satus updates and comments showing up in Drupal.

Thought I would point out: http://drupal.org/project/diaspora
The following features are functional and have been tested with remote diaspora pods:

Have not tested with the latest version of Diaposra, Not sure if the federated messaging has changed since their ALPHA release.
I have no problem getting the backend to work on the remaining messages, but need some help with theming, UX/UI stuff. Right now it looks pretty generic.
thanks rurri
this is great news. i will have to check it out. obviously it has been a while (in internet years) since i first posted this in 2011. glad to see you are working on this.
i am working on porting over a fairly large site this year, and i hope to really push the boundaries of what it does, including things like folding in diaspora. sadly, it is an "after-hours" kinda task, so it is slow going. but this is encouraging.

Mumonkan, Good to hear. Yeah
Mumonkan,
Good to hear. Yeah basics as far as sending out posts, and getting replies back, and storing those replies as comments on the original post work great, and appear just as any other comment would an a drupal node.
I just noticed this thread again as well, and that diaspora is out of Alpha, so I will start retesting the federation protocol to see if anything major has changed.

Good on you, @rurri
Glad to see this is still going! Thanks, Rurri.
I spent a bit of time poking around the Diaspora project today, and it doesn't look good at the moment. Its most active discussion forum gets a handful of posts per month; other main mailing lists haven't seen posts for six months.
I sent a note to the "-discuss" list for a status update, and will try to remember to report back here.
As a side note: I noticed quite a few Disaporans list Drupal as an interest. Curious.

bummer
yeah, it seems like they have been doing some major shifts in diaspora world.
maybe (?) good news is that they seem to have moved a bunch of meta-discussion and development tracking to some site loom.io (new to me) which does seem to show some more recent activity. i dont have much time today to dig deeper... but crossing my fingers there is life in it yet.
