Second monthly meeting canceled until further notice

The location we have been using for our second monthly meeting (The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf) has started charging $100 a meeting for the use of their room (due to an increased demand). While I do not begrudge them for doing it, and am grateful we were able to use it in the past, I cannot afford the cost. So, until something better comes along, I am canceling those meetings.

Only the first monthly meetings were on the calendar, so it didn't change.

Bummer

I'll be in on the next meeting for sure. I needed to tackle stuff and get it off of my plate!
I'm hoping attending BAD camp will be the rite of passage that I need to get initiated. So, I'm making it a point to start attending the LV DUG meetings and attending more Drupal events.

If you guys need help finding another location, I can ask around. I'm not sure what the meetings have been like lately... but we can chat and see what size room is needed and whatever other equipment maybe helpful?

See you soon,

Fancy Panels Usage

Hello all. I've got some scary test to take on the 29th, so I've back-burnered my Drupal development. Right before I switched gears, I was working on custom content types for Panels. In particular, I have an 'event' content type that has a date range--start date and stop date--but when I went to create a View of current and upcoming events, a quirk of the date field blocked the workflow. I forked the dates into two distinct fields to work around, but I'm generally uncomfortable with arranging fields in a text file for the theme layer (I can manage, but I feel that the theming text files are unmaintainable for my expectation of admin-tech-saviness). I'm working toward Panels-Jedi, because I like its user friendliness, so I've built a content type (a Pane in Panels userland) to expose the two date fields to Panels as a single pane and to facilitate their customization.

If anyone is interested digging into Panels to build custom Panes for exposing subsets of fields, then say something and I'll throw something together before the next meeting. From what I've seen, the workflow will be sufficiently robust to convert a bunch of field data to a weather service query to incorporate a weather service as a pane. I also plan to switch to a date contrib module that I found that only has a few users: I'm sure that contributions to its API will be welcome, and i'd like to format one date based on the other (if the event happens on a single date, I want the tail of the range to appear only as a time of day).
