Las Vegas

1. First, do this ... block these dates! Aug 8 & 9.
2. Second, please, please, we will need help, volunteers, and session proposals at all levels.
3. Third, we still need some more sponsors. We've already had some great verbal commitments, but we're looking to lock 'em down.

5. Lastly, check back often... this is just a planning wiki, so details are still slushy right now.

chx (Károly Négyesi) is coming to Los Angeles and he's asking the L.A. developers to bring it for what will be one of the final pre-d7 code freeze coding and testing sprints. There will be chocolate, and at some point beer.

The hours are (tentatively) 8:00 AM on Saturday until whenever we want to break and from 8:00 AM on Sunday until 5:00 PM when chx needs to leave for another engagement.

I thought this week might be a good time to have a local Drupal users meet-up to just kind of talk shop and see what's on each other's minds and plates as of late, and see who all is going to be heading to D.C. next week for DrupalCon/discuss the schedule, et cetera. It's been awhile since our last meet-up so I thought I would see what everyone else thought about a meeting for this week, possibly Wednesday or Thursday, and see if it worked for a decent percentage of the people for this week..

Thoughts? questions? considerations? complaints? :P

Three Days of Drupal Training in Reno Nevada!

Chris Charlton and Laura Scroggins are working together to provide two sets of Drupal training sessions.

We are a Las Vegas based company that is building a publishing website.

Ideally we are looking to employ a developer immediately to begin working on our projects for competitive pay.

Those local to Las Vegas a major plus + + + +

Ideally the developer would be based near Las Vegas or Los Angeles for update meetings but will telecommute. Must have strong credentials in Drupal and themes and have the ability to integrate preexisting php applications (will explain).

You will have the opportunity to architect a High Profile Drupal website from the ground up.

I know the Chapter Three folks did some work on this site, and it turned out terrific. Not just from a web design and usability standpoint, but it's a very easy cause to support.

Introduction
Several of us have been talking (well, actually Karl has been doing most of the talking) about hosting a Drupal Camp in San Diego. It's a fun town, there's a lot of Drupalites in and around the downtown area, and it's only 100 miles striking distance from Los Angeles. The LA DUG folks can come too!

So here's what we propose. Let's get a small contingent of dedicated organizers and see if we can make this happen. Karl has full support from Achieve Internet, Andrew Root will be the Conference Coordinator, and we can even tap the skillz of Beck for production planning and sponsorships. Sound like a plan?

It's been too long since we've had a Las Vegas Drupal users group meet-up and work night.. Summer has that effect (and so do the holidays) but after DrupalCamp LA I'm fired up to get some more regular meetings going. We even have a new Drupalista in Vegas now - Rich!

Yea it was just Christopher and I, but we decided on having a meeting anyway to figure out some things we had questions about and discussed some other resolutions to problems.

There is a designer track this year at DrupalCon and we figure after the theming exposure we got in LA, Matt's book, the new theming, book, et cetera... Doing four days of classes in Boston would really help solidify this all in our heads.

Looking for Senior Drupal/PHP developer to join our fast growing team in this privately funded startup based in Scottsdale, AZ.

Open to telecommuting and contract arrangements but would prefer someone full time in our office. We will relocate the right candidate if required.

Ideal candidate
- PHP/MySQL skills must be strong
- computer science degree
- experience working with linux servers in scaling applications (ideally Drupal)
- must be comfortable working in a startup environment

Wanted to post a message on here to inform everyone that we are going to fore go a meeting tomorrow. The holidays have been difficult to schedule around and would be best to start off in the New Year! Christopher and I will be out of town for most of the month so we figured it would be best just to pick things back up in January. See you guys then and stay tuned for a date!

The first meeting was mostly a get-to-know each other, and what everyone uses or plans to use Drupal for. We're hoping to use this meeting (Nov. 21) to begin a group collaboration on a LVDUG website based on Drupal.

Working over the weekends is no fun, but having friends around helps.

In order to brighten things up a bit, Trellon will be conducting a theme development workshop this Saturday, October 7, 2006 from 12:00 to 2:00 PM EST. We will be discussing CSS design considerations, cross browser issues, best practices with phptemplate, implementing AJAX within user interfaces and more. During the meeting, we will be working on an actual project and sharing the tips and tricks we use to design great Web sites. We will also be doing a question and answer session at the end of the meeting, so come prepared.
