Hey everyone, I enjoyed the last 2 meetups and it would be nice to keep some momentum going, so I am going to tentatively propose that we do a meeting next week, Friday the 21st, possibly sometime in the evening, somewhere local in Eugene. Supporting local businesses that have open environments and "open source" like mentalities is great. If anyone went to the PNW Drupal Summit I'd be interested in learning about what they learned, etc. So, express your interest, and we can make something happen - this can be a real big one, or just a micro-meetup, whatever works best.

Hey, slavojzizek. I'm not really a Drupal developer per se, but I manage a couple Drupal sites, have built a few for my NGO's international partners and am currently involved in re-launching our site using Drupal Gardens and OG Mailing Lists. I'm not usually available on Fridays because of child care commitments but other nights of the week -- esp. Saturdays -- I'd be interested in a Eugene Drupal meet-up.
I have no idea about their "open source" mentality but I'm a big fan of the McMenamins pubs in town, e.g. E. 19 Street, High Street, etc.

Thanks for responding. That sounds like an interesting project - I have never used OG Mailing Lists (I've used CiviCRM and Mailchimp) for Drupal-based mailings. I'd be interested in sharing. I understand that everyone has different commitments, and the spirit of my initial post was to make this open feeling to anyone to participate in the group. Unfortunately, this upcoming weekend I am quite committed to other things. Would you be able to possibly meet on a Thursday night? I haven't heard much about the McMenamin pub, because I am new to town. In general, my experience with doing tech meetings at alchohol-serving places, is its exclusive of people who might not be interested in that kind of scene - i.e. loud/obnoxious. However, in the spirit of investigation I'm happy to meet there at least one time. The last group I was part of eventually split meetings to alternate at pubs/coffee shops. Just educating anyone looking here to the ways groups can organize and be inclusive of all.
So, please let me know - I'd be happy to meet with you Thursday, Friday or perhaps another time. Generally speaking though, I love Drupal, its awesome, and its a great thing to meet and discuss. Especially when we can just share information and work on cool projects, and have trust that no one is stepping on each others toes / taking clients / etc. - something that we can build over time.

I'm not attached to a pub at all, Zachary. I don't know why I didn't consider the fact there might be under-21 Drupal developers in town, or even over-21 Drupal developers in town that don't like to hang out in pubs ;)
There are so many coffee shops, Thai restaurants, pizza places, etc. it's hard to even suggest another place to meet. Maybe something downtown-ish like in Whiteaker? I'll look around on my way home today and suggest something tomorrow.
Unfortunately Thursday evenings don't really work for me the next several weeks; after mid-November my Thursdays open up. If you wanted to meet up sooner, Tuesdays and Saturdays are my best nights. By the way, ELAW's Office Manager, Melanie has been following this thread and might be interested in meeting with us also.
ELAW has a pretty interesting Drupal project going -- with the help of a couple local Drupal developers working under the name "Free Flow Data" -- that involves creating a sort of private social media website for ELAW's international partners and making the discussions in Drupal Commons workrooms mirror messages in our current mailing lists. We've got another set of developers -- Lunar Logic -- working mostly on modifying OG Mailinglists to do that. We're hoping to launch it in the next few weeks. (Of course, we've been hoping to launch it in the next few weeks for about six months now ;)

How about the 5th Street Market's international café area?
The whole international café area inside 5th Street Market has a number of little restaurant booths and a big space with lots of tables, and near the corner of 5th and Pearl are a number of restaurants that could also work: Lucky Noodle, Sweet Basil and the Granary Pizza.
How about meeting in the 5th Street Market international café area on Saturday at 7:00pm?

Well, it turns out that the International Market at 5th Street Market stops serving at 7:00 and closes completely at 7:30.
I didn't see anyone wandering around looking for a Drupal meeting, but then I don't know what any of you look like! (Save Zachary.)
Maybe we can try again soon? I'm swamped the next few weeks with a relaunch of our Drupal site and a board meeting, but maybe Saturday, 12 November?

I did not make it to the Drupal meeting, I was very busy with a prior commitment.
The 5th Street Market is a cool place because there are a few choices.
There is an interest in this thread for a meeting, and an interest here : http://groups.drupal.org/node/185584 for a "Last Tuesday" meeting at Sam Bonds (Tuesday 10/25) at 6 pm.
My personal take on this:
I, myself, do not feel very happy meeting in bars or alcohol serving environments - I always leave feeling drained energetically and mentally. I would like to continue offering a "non-bar-like-environment" option, where we can meet and have a calm, comfortable way of speaking and relating to the topic at hand: Drupal.
This being said, I am going to announce regular group meetings at J-TEA International - where I have met with a few people from this group. Great environment, mind-opening and relaxing tea, and a very calm space. I'd like to meet once a month, most likely on the second Saturday of each month. So, I will be there November 12th, Saturday @ J-TEA International in the afternoon at 1PM.

Hope to see you all there! And, if there's an overwhelming interest in doing it at the 5 Market, that's fine by me, but this first one I am going to do at J-TEA because its been a good place to meet thus far.
