Please sign-up for this event so we know how many people will be attending this month.
MEETING LOCATION:
The Community Arts Cafe, located at 411 W. 4th Street, Winston Salem. It's on the lower level, one room comfortably seats 12 - 20 people around tables. There is reserved parking in the back of the building, and if that fills up, there's a huge parking lot across the street that's free after 6:00 PM.
MEETING AGENDA:
It would be great to have three different sessions - so if anyone is willing to present please let me know.
Session One: Drupal Modules that help you with Site Administration (Ray)
Session Two: Mobile Theme Development (James)
Session Three: Open
Looking forward to seeing everyone at the meeting,
Ray

Looking forward to it!
Looking forward to it! Should we set the time for closer to 7:00 to make sure everyone has plenty of time to get here?
-Brandon
Start Time is 7pm (1900)
Unless my time zone is messed up this was setup up for 7pm, I think based on the last meeting you are right about allowing for drive time.
Ray
Oh yeah, sorry, I didn't see
Oh yeah, sorry, I didn't see the actual meeting time at the top, just saw the "6:00" you posted about the parking. My bad! :)
Can't make it
Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it; that's the day I'm closing on my house, and things will be hectic for me that week, as I'm moving in on Saturday. Maybe in January!
Katrina
Site builder, writer, trainer, graphic designer
Should we try for a different
Should we try for a different day? I know the main issue was we didn't want to schedule for the same night as Durham's, but maybe one more time wouldn't be a big deal?
Would a different day that week work better for the DEC Meeting
I am open to moving the day. If anyone has suggestions please let us know.
Ray
Idea for a Session during the meetings
Another Drupal group is actually building an Group Website and using the build as a vehicle to learn and teach across all group members knowledge levels. If we can get enough of a core group to get involved in this project we could use this same vehicle as a teaching vehicle.
Thoughts,
Ray
RE: Group Site
I believe we talked about this during our first meeting. Building a website would definitely be a good learning experience, however a group website would take activity away from this g.d.o page. Any people new to the area or new to Drupal would more than likely come here first, so it is worth considering keeping as much activity here as possible.
If this isn't a big concern for anybody else, then I'm all for it. Otherwise, we may be able to just build an example site.
I'm not entirely sure what
I'm not entirely sure what you mean, but it sounds intriguing - can you explain more, or maybe point us towards the example?
Dec Meetup
Are we still on for Dec 14 at 7pm in Winston?
Last month we met at 6
Last month we met at 6, did we change it to 7 pm -- it goes late for me starting so late...
Yeah, part of the
Yeah, part of the conversation has been about how we can get Katrina to the meeting, but of course, that date's just no good for her anyway this time, so we could still meet at 6:00 or 6:30?
Also, I need to bring this up, but the place where we met (and may meet in the future) is a private business, and they make most of their money on concessions. So, for them to stay open that late when nothing else is going on, they like people to buy things. So I'm just saying, if you guys are going to grab a bite to eat or anything, maybe you could do it there, they keep good food and beverages on hand. :)
Meeting Time
For this meeting let's go ahead and move it back to 6pm (or 6:30pm) and get an Agenda ready. I will prepare about 60 minutes of training - If anyone else has something to show OR a topic for discussion please let us know.
Ray
Mobile
I'll do one on mobile theme development.
Hey guys, I've got bad news
Hey guys,
I've got bad news about the venue - the CAC had the opportunity to book a pretty big corporate Christmas party that night next week and decided they needed to do it - they need the money as much as the rest of us, eh? Anyway, Jim was very apologetic, but said he just wouldn't be able to fit us that night with this party going on. What other venue options do we have for this month?
Just want to make sure
Just want to make sure everyone's seen my comment above. I know a place or 2 in Kernersville we could meet, or does anyone have any other last minute suggestions?
Kernersville sounds good - It's central
Kernersville is central to both WS & GSO. It's also good for me coming from Walnut Cove.
That works for me
Right now I only see 4 people signed up to meet - so as long as the venue can hold that we can move to Kernersville. I have a Projector is we need that for the training. If you can send me the new meeting location and address I'll put it into the Event.
The Panera in Kernersville
The Panera in Kernersville has a small room in the back where people can meet, and it's usually not busy on Wednesday evenings. The Juicy Java is a great place to meet, but it looks like they've started closing earlier. Their hours are listed as open until 7:00 on Wednesdays, so I don't guess that would really work. Is Panera acceptable?
RE: The Panera in Kernersville
My only concern about using the Panera is if that room will be open. Do you know if we can reserve it or not? If we can't then we are rolling the dice for that room to be empty (And I agree that Wednesday shouldn't be too busy). Maybe we should look for a different night or postpone the Training until January. BUT if everyone decides to go to Panera I will be there.
Either way Brandon I appreciate all your time to find a another venue. We should probably make it a topic of discussion next meeting, locating a couple of sites for meetings.
Ray
I'm fine with trying Panera.
I'm fine with trying Panera. Certainly, for one-on-one meetings, Panera tables and booths have worked well for me many times. But as Ray says, not having the room guaranteed may necessitate changing our expectations of the meeting. I appreciate people being willing & able to conduct training sessions based on what they know, assuming we'll have the room. Would you like to try some version of the training even if we don't have the room? On the other hand, if we postpone training to January and if what we want to do is develop a plan for training in January and to do a round-robin discussion with questions, this location may be perfect.
Anyone have any leads on new folks who might attend our meeting?
As solution for the meeting
We could try Panera, but I have a better solution.
I took the liberty to reserve the Kernersville Library - lower conference room (holds 20)
Wed. Dec. 14 from 6pm - 8:30 pm (they're open 'til 9pm)
Location:
Kernersville Branch
130 E. Mountain St.
Kernersville, NC 27284
(336) 703-2930
Anyone who wants to check out Panera beforehand for menu and potential meeting space could report to us. But I think the library could be a permanent solution to our meeting needs until we get too large.
Meeting Location Updated
Thanks Sarvasri for getting a meeting place for this week.
I will update the meeting location - and if anyone else would like to present please let me know.
Ray
Cool, I'll be there. See you
Cool, I'll be there. See you guys around 6:00.
Can't make it
Sorry I won't be able to make it tonight. I was home sick most of yesterday and began a new round of meds, so today my only plan is to rest.
Thanks to Sarvasri for arranging the meeting location at the public library, that was a great idea!
I have been happy our group began meeting this year (thanks to Katrina for kicking it off) and I look forward to seeing you all in the New Year. I'll be interested to see additional people join us in 2012, I'm sure there are many other Drupal users in our area. I'm also interested helping to develop a group website and discussing together what it might include. Would also like to help with meeting planning and doing a session now and then, too.
See you in 2012!
Best,
Ben
No problem, I hate that the
No problem, I hate that the CAC become so quickly unavailable. I called Panera and spoke with them and they will reserve the room for parties of 15 or more, but not for a small meeting like this. I'm willing to give it a try, but if everyone else thinks it's not worth the trip in case it would be filled, then I'm game for just trying another date.
Thanks for all who showed for training last night
Just learning about the DEVEL dpm function was worth the time to show up last night (thanks again to James for sharing that). I am looking forward to our next meeting.
Ray
Yeah, good stuff last night!
Yeah, good stuff last night! Great to meet you guys.
Dec Meetup
Sorry I couldn't make the meeting. I was in TN on Business that ran over the expected finish date.
I'm looking forward to the next meeting
With Christmas out of the
With Christmas out of the way, let's pick a date for our next Meetup. The location we met last time (Kernersville Library) is fine for me, seems very central to everyone else as well?
I've called them, and both Wed the 11th and Wed the 18th are available at 6:00 for us to use one of their meeting rooms again. I'm leaning towards the 18th, but I would just like to hear from a couple people that that's a good date before I call and confirm. Also, if we could get a new meetup topic started for this?
Hope everyone had a great Christmas!
Next Meeting
I will be out of town on the 11th, the 18th would work better for me.
Ray
Walkertown has a nicer facility
We might also consider the Walkertown library. It is a nicer facility than Kernersville.
I've been to some meetings there and I like it better.
When I tried to reserve Kernersville for January, the 11th was taken for online registration, but it looks like they have more rooms now.
The problem for me in Kernersville was that I couldn't get online from down in the basement.
If we have a larger group, it may be difficult for all of us to be online.
I'm OK for either 11th or 18th.
Reserving rooms online
Rooms can be reserved online for any of the Forsyth libraries.
Calling may also be a good idea as there may be other rooms not shown online.
