Join us on Thursday evening, January 12th at 6:30pm for the latest installment of the Brevard Drupal Meetup Series, 2nd Edition. We'll be having a mixed bag of short presentations:

If anyone else would like to do a short demonstration, please leave a comment below. I'd like to encourage more people presenting on different topics...

The meetup will take place at The Shamrock Room in Cocoa Village. For those of you familiar with Cocoa Village, The Shamrock Room is owned by, and directly above, Ryan's Pizza. There will be no charge for us to use the room, but I did promise that we'll buy food and drinks and tip well. The WiFi situation is a bit sketchy, but the pizza is awesome.

Please use the signup functionality below so we have an idea about how many people to expect.

Wish I could be there. I am working in Orlando on Tues and Thurs each week. It's good to see the comments from everyone though.

Just a suggestion

What if you scheduled some time for each person (that wanted to) to introduce themselves and explain what they are working on, highlighting challenges, issues, discoveries and needs. You could limit it to say 2 minute summary/2 minute discussion - something like that. that might also help me jumpstart the Special Interest Groups for the DrupalCamp.

Another suggestion

I'd love it if a couple of knowledgeable people would have a kind of panel discussion on modules they use frequently. I found Jay's Top 50 Drupal 7 Modules (mediacurrent.com/blog) and found it very helpful as a point of departure.

cool

Maggie - good ideas, I'll add them to the agenda.

Thanks,

Maggie, I love that idea.

It would really be helpful for those of us who feel like we are stumbling around alone in the dark without much of a chart to guide us with hints like "here be treasure" or "here be dragons". ;-)

Big Oops

I have the flu and don't want to share it with you all, so I'm not going to make it tonight. But I did want to share a valuable lesson I learned on the job today. I was making some changes to URL's as directed, and had noticed that both the Admin Toolbar and the core toolbar were showing. Helpful me, I thought, "I know how to fix that!" and disabled the core toolbar through Modules. Shortly after that I heard from the boss... The core toolbar was there for the client, and now they didn't have one. He didn't know whether it was something I had done, or some weird database corruption or unauthorized access to the site. Moral of the story: Don't make ANY changes without specific permission!!! See ya'll next time...

Thanks for everyone who attended last night's meetup (all 17 of us!), here's links for some of the stuff we discussed:

We had a really nice meetup, ideally, this is the face of meetups to come. We had a range of topics and speakers, and the evening was much more of a "conversation" than a presentation. We had two short (15-minute) demonstrations (Colorbox and ImageField Crop), then we covered three additional topics that were brought up by attendees (Drag 'n Drop Uploads, how to integrate jQuery on a Webform, and how to tackle a large migration project.

We didn't get to the "top 50 modules" discussion we had planned, but that will be one of the topics in our next meetup in two weeks in Melbourne (http://groups.drupal.org/node/202298).

Thanks,
-mike

Sorry I missed it!
