SoC Update for Mentors and Students
Mentors and students, there are only a few short days before the applications get locked down, and there are some important items you need to know about.
Mentors
- The Drupal Summer of Code Mentors group is closing down, at least as a private group, due to the phasing out of private groups here on groups.drupal.org. There have been a lot of questions about scoring and applications in general, and these should now be brought to our private Drupal Summer of Code Google Group: http://groups.google.com/group/drupal-soc .
- If you plan on mentoring, either as a primary or secondary mentor, you should post a public comment in the official application on the Summer of Code site. If you haven't signed up on the SoC site, please do so now! http://socghop.appspot.com/org/list_proposals/google/gsoc2009/drupal
- Please use the new Google Group to ask any questions you have about the program, if possible, though you can always feel free to contact me directly.
- Please be aware that on the official site notifications are not automatically sent to you, even if you're the mentor on a project. Please click the buttons at the top of each proposal where you'd like to get notified about updates.
- If you've given a negative score to students based off of missing data, please subscribe to the notifications for that proposal so you'll know if students address your concerns.
Students
- You must have a mentor officially assigned to your project by April 15th, so you should be doing everything you can to find a mentor if you don't have one already. Please be aware that this is a hard date and we have no power to push it back. If you're having a problem finding a mentor, please leave a comment here and/or try to find myself, chx, dmitrig01, or any other SoC mentor/admin/helper in the #drupal irc room.
- Please be aware that on the official site notifications are not automatically sent to you, even if you're the creator of a project idea. Please click the subscribe buttons at the top of your proposal to receive updates.
Looking for Mentor
I would like to bring it to your notice that I haven't yet been allotted any mentor. I have given the complete information that I was asked for on my proposal at Google Summer of Code Website. Please look into the matter and hope to hear from you soon.
Address Book Importer + Invitor Module
Just an FYI that MananKS is proposal is the Address Book Importer + Invitor Module. Anyone want to help Manan make this functionality a reality for Drupal?

Thanks for the reply.. And no offenses meant, but I believe that with the right resources and mentor, I would be able to successfully complete the proposed project within the stipulated time. Please provide me with a mentor so that I can approach the project in the most appropriate manner and make the functionality a reality.

I think this sounds better for me
My proposal either involves too much design work (instead of immediate implementation) or can be done with existing modules. I am keenly interested in getting elbow deep into Taxonomy though. My intended major is informatics and so a proposal like this is up my alley.
Today I am cramming for a calculus exam but on Monday I'll see about patches and the nitty gritty of this Mgccl proposal. If someone better comes along before I get a chance to to come up to speed then what I can I say? But I really want this type of project.

That was the impression I got from this post.
I am confused
I not sure I understand how to get one or what to expect.
I thought you are suppose to develop one through conversations about proposals, but is there more I need to know?

we asked some questions in your profile which haven't been addressed yet. The first thing you need to do to get a mentor is take a look at those questions and try and come up with suitable responses.

I checked the GSoC Proposal and saw the comments that you are referring to. It is not a matured proposal by any means but rather I responded to the suggest to get something in now, change it later.

Mentor status
I believe I still need a mentor for my Crisis Management Suite proposal. How do we know if a mentor has "officially" been assigned to a proposal?
Mentor familar with views?
By now even i have noticed it is now time to finally find a mentor for the
GraphMapping Framework (graphviz_api + graphviz_fields + graphviz_views + graphviz_filter) so if there is any mentor out there who masters views module plugins to some degree: you are urgently needed.
