Is it time to start thinking about or planning DrupalSouth 2? What do you think? Would you be keen to attend? Help organise? Sponsor? Speak? Where?

Sounds like a plan. I'd like to recommend the Hop again. I thought it worked quite well there last time.

I'm keen to attend if there
I'm keen to attend if there is something for Drupal module developers, such as coding standards, CVS tricks and tips, site optimization etc.
If the conference coincides with my ski trip that would help too :)

Could be a good session idea?
I missed out on DrupalSouth
I missed out on DrupalSouth last year but am keen to attend this time.
Ideas for sessions:
* What's new in Drupal 7 - What should developers and users expect?
* Build stories/case studies from NZ projects (I imagine this could fill a number of slots)
* A code sprint of some sort (maybe a pre-conference workshop)
* Drupal-based business models
* Development tools and environments (eg cvs)
* Project management - what works and what doesn't
definitely
Looking forward to this. Have been wondering about doing something for us north island crew as well, but Christchurch was a great venue and really good get-together.
If my comments have helped you, please pay it forward!
Use issue queues to discuss module issues - this will help your questions assist others (including yourself!) in future.
Joint event with Australia?
Hi guys,
I was talking with the people at the Sydney meetup last night about doing a larger event this year, and one of the ideas that came out was possibly trying to do a AU-NZ event, or at least trying to organize an event that would be big enough in scope to make people from both communities want to attend (and maybe even people from our asian/pacific neighbors). I had commented that I saw this thread and it might be better to save some sanity and combine resources.
Would anyone be interested in doing this?
To be fair, I asked the attendees who would be ok flying to NZ if that's where it was decided to be held and about 1/2 said they might. Not sure how many of you might be willing to fly to AU. FWIW, I have also been told that Addi Berry (Doc Team Lead & Lullabot member) would be interested to fly down here if we put together a big event this year.

Workshop Ideas
If it were in the North Island, the Hawkes Bay could be an idea?
Had another thought or two
Had another thought or two for topics:
DrupalSouth needs organizers
Cool! There seems to be a lot of interest and momentum around this. I've received a fair bit of offline private messages about it too. Unfortunately I don't have time to help organize again till early 2010. I can help with some other resources though. Hopefully others can? There is still a lot of talk in the GDO/australia group about a DrupalCon/Camp. Be sure to keep in touch with them to coordinate. I'll be overseas from August 25 till December, and would probably not attend if it were in that time, but that's probably the best time of year for it, so don't let that be a hindrance.

I would like to see
I would like to see something on:
- RDFa
- site setup (install profiles, performance tuning)
- site maintenance (perhaps aegir, drush, cvs).
- How to best handle media
Perhaps DrupalSouth 2 could
Perhaps DrupalSouth 2 could be a miniconf during, before or after Linux Conference Australasia, Wellington January 2010. See this other discussion on groups.drupal.org/new-zealand for more details.

Wellington January 2010
In case any one is subscribed to this thread, but not g.d.o/nz, DrupalSouth 2 will most likely be in Wellington, mid-late January 2010. See http://groups.drupal.org/node/26217 for more details.

There are lots of great ideas here. Please feel free to flesh these out in more detail and post them here or email them to me. We haven't really started getting speakers and sessions and programme organised (it would be awesome if someone could do take that on!), but it's great to see there are plenty of ideas and lot of enthusiasm here!
I was thinking of doing jQuery for Designers again, which was a huge success at DrupalCon Paris. I would probably make it more like "jQuery, zero to hero" and try to cover a wider range of skill levels though. It would also complement Emma Jane's PHP for designers.

Programme
How many confirmed guest speakers do we have from overseas? Do they have set topics they have been asked to speak on?
What are the usual Drupal session lengths?
When do we have the venue from and to, exactly, each day?
Perhaps our overseas friends ought to be given longer slots? 1.5 hours plus 0.5 hours Q+A or a straight 1.5 hour session with one pre-dinner round-table Q+A for all Qs?
Other slots 1 hour?
Have arrangements been made for servicing of the meeting room ie refreshments during am or pm? Or is a break planned for morning and afternoon teas? What about lunch / dinner?
Are there modules on the current DS site for voting on session ideas and slots? Can something be grabbed from http://drupal.org/node/519100 to make it easier for the sessions?

3rd party applications
Was chatting to another Drupaler / Drupalista (whatever) and the idea of having a session for 'how to integrate 3rd party applications into an install' was suggested.
I think there are 2 ideas here - the practical how to, and the issue of security vulnerabilites.
I know that when I was looking at using Drupal and/or PHPGedView for a site, I found out that PGV requested the integration module be taken off D.o as it introduced security vulnerabilities into its software!
