Help test 5.x core (and project*) on scratch.drupal.org -- become a project ninja!

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

the Drupal Dojo sounds great, and i'm happy to join the efforts (as both student and teacher, it's a whole spectrum, not a bit). anyone who wants to dive into Drupal development right now can help by mercilessly beating on http://scratch.drupal.org to test out the latest 5.x release candidate code, and submitting issues (with patches, if possible!) about any problems you find.

i'm particularly interested in people testing out the project* set of modules (the biggest set of code running on the [s].d.o infrastructure that isn't Drupal core itself). this code is essential for all Drupal development, but is a huge, and (unfortunately) fairly complex chunk of code, which is mostly maintained entirely by one person: me. since it's not core, the pool of people testing it (aside from live use on drupal.org) and contributing code and documentation for it is tiny. if the Dojo wants to really do some good in the Drupal world (and it seems like it certainly will!), one of its big goals should be expanding the pool of people who understand, test, contribute patches to, and eventually help commit code and fully maintain the project suite of modules.

here are some of the many ways you can help:

i'll try to start hanging out in #drupal-dojo whenever i'm in #drupal. i might sometimes come across a little scary, but i'm *always* thrilled for anyone who wants to help with project*, cvs.module, etc.... i can be very nice and helpful when i want to be. ;)

looking forward to a productive collaboration... huge thanks to josh for getting this group started!!!

Glad to see you here, dww! Where should we submit bug reports on scratch.drupal.org? If there's a specific link you can give, can you edit your story above and add it in?

cheers

the pages i linked to both have a "feedback" section

but, just read the whole posts, since there's some other useful info on what to do if you want to specifically help testing s.d.o.

thanks!

Duh!

I realized that about 15 seconds after posting the comment. Just trying to keep things simple and direct as possible. Thx!

Need help on testing project and project issues

victorkane's picture

Hi Derek,

I would like to take you up on testing the project and project_issues modules for 5.0, since I use both pretty extensively.

Trying to get my ducks in a row, I see you have a typo on the project issue tracking link.

Now says: http://drupal.org/project/project_issues
Should say: http://drupal.org/project/project_issue (take off the extra "s" on the end)

So, I have

  1. Drupal release 5.0
    From drupal.org front page.

  2. Went to http://drupal.org/project/project, hit "view all releases", grabbed project-5.x-0.x-dev

  3. Went to http://drupal.org/project/project_issue and went to "view all releases" and grabbed the project_issue-5.x-0.x-dev version

My idea is to test all this over the next few days and follow the rest of your indications.
We can take it from there.

excellent!

i'm so glad to hear it. this is music to my ears. ;)
thanks for the pointer on the typo. now fixed.

thanks for your help!

ktiedt's picture

My project is looking to use these modules for 5.x so we would love to test them out... where can find find the modules that have been updated for 5.x?

-Karl

-Karl

currently just in "HEAD"

dww's picture

thanks for the reminder, i just updated the project nodes with this info. the 5.x versions are all currently just in HEAD. see each project page (linked in the original post) for details.

thanks!
-derek

ahhh ok, so no web

ktiedt's picture

ahhh ok, so no web accessible way to download them from the projects site... guess ill figure out CVS so I can get those to test then :)

not so -- links to the release nodes are there

dww's picture

nope. there are links to the web-accessible release nodes on each projet page in the little section near the bottom of the description where i say "if you want the 5.x code, you can get it [here]". use those.

cheers,
-derek

Thanks Derek, my one complaint about Drupal is how hard it is to navigate the release stuff :( Mostly just related to 5.x though so I'm hoping that goes away with the stable release :)

Will get these installed and setup on our site soon so we can start testing them as well :)
