I'm trying to learn D6 + Zen theming with a designer friend of mine. We haven't done much yet, just set up D6 with a Zen subtheme folder ready. I guess that's a prerequisite for everyone wanting to join. Other than that, please read up on the theming guide:
The Drupal Handbook
The Drupal Theming Guide
The Zen theme
How to build your own Zen sub-theme (6.x)
Hong Kong Drupal User Group
Come next Wednesday, let's show each other what we've learned so far, then go through creating or copying a theme together.
Dave, any advice?
People, suggestions? Other reading materials? Which wordpress theme to replicate?? Which site to replicate??

Timout.com.hk doesn't look
Timout.com.hk doesn't look so simple. With a site like that you really need to have something to generate the content in the layout before you can theme it.
Given that we're meeting in a cafe it might be simpler for everyone just to bring their work and we all talk about the code and ask questions. I think it would be difficult to do anything tutorial style if we're gathered around several small tables pushed together.
Alternatively porting a WP theme might be a good idea. They're usually pretty simple. Also it would be more useful than recreating a proprietary site that couldn't be reused.

Or, check out
Or, check out http://www.miami.com/
It was on one of the DC Drupal Con talks, they use Drupal, and I downloaded all their css files.
Or... if some of you really want to be challenged... check out this "Notepad Chaos" theme for wordpress - http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2008/08/20/notepad-chaos-a-free-wordpres... - all the source files are there, think u can translate it to Drupal?
That works for me as well.
That works for me as well. But in any case, the actual design doesn't matter much to me. What I'm thinking of learning and sharing ideas on is taking a graphical design or mockup, into a base theme like zen, all the way to a working Drupal site. Hopefully with things like "top stories", "hot pics" and what have you and the like on the front page (so theming views [teasers, lists, full nodes, tables], node queues, maybe even panels?).

CSS Files
Hi, I am trying to do a city portal like miami.com with Drupal. I am newbie on Drupal.
I have no idea where can I start an how can I get CSS files of theme?
Sach Kuaför | Kuaför | Kuaför Malzemeleri |
An other porting theme of WP
Actually I test this theme http://drupal.org/project/tma, an other theme from WP ported on Drupal. For me, you can use for your base theme, Zen or basic (basic is more simple but it's a nice basic theme). After, with CSS, views theming and panel (I wait the official release of Panel on D6 !!! :)), you can create what ever you want.

Good one Julien... before next Wednesday, we can check out Zen and Zen's subthemes like http://drupal.org/project/tma and others listed here http://drupal.org/node/340837
To get a Zen subtheme started without all the copy and renaming... I found this http://drupal.org/project/zenophile
On Wed, we can show each other our work, and then work together on converting a WP theme into a Zen subtheme.
Theme Meetup
Hi all.
Sorry I can't make it this Weds. Am off to the UK for a few days for work.
I will pass this on to my colleague Ian. He ported a WP theme into Drupal, so hope that he will be able to make it, though its his first day back in HK after getting married!
Andy
Meetup
Sorry guys, I may not be able to make it this time. A relative is visiting from the States and dinner is arranged with her whole family.
P.S.
I have been trying to show the secondary link using the primary link as source. That is pretty easy to do with the default theme, but just can't get it to work with the Zen theme. The submenu just won't show anywhere. Mmm...
Finally..
How many peoples we are for tomorrow ?

5 ppl signed up, but more had left messages saying they're coming.
FYI, the Leveraging Drupal book chapter 7 is on theming D5 and chapter 10 completes an entire project including theming for D6.
The code for chapter 6 is here:

I just know you can login as admin/admin, not sure about the database user/password. If you can install these, they come with some content types + contents for you to theme for.

I'm going to have to bail on the theming meetup tonight. Debbi's recruited me to be her assistant for a photo shoot.
