Drupalcon Paris

Hi all,
Drupalcon Paris is the big Drupal gig this year, and I'm going.
http://paris2009.drupalcon.org/
[4th European Drupalcon in a row for me .. can't believe it].

Who else from Ireland is planning to travel?
Any interest in sharing an apartment for the week?

I'm taking the scenic route to get there, just for something different.
Train to Dublin, Ferry to Holyhead, Train to london [ see sailrail.co.uk for all-in ticket]
A night or two in London, and then Eurostar to Paris.
Return via Eurostar to London, and fly to Galway from London Luton.
A mini-adventure.
Nothing booked yet except the Drupalcon ticket.

Its a bit more expensive than last year, but it's Paris and not Hungary, so its not a surprise.
Still a great deal considering the amount of knowledge I soak up each year, not to mention meeting other Drupal developers in the flesh as opposed to the issue queue!

Any other takers?
Alan

I already have my ticket! And Dermot is coming too (well to France, not to Drupalcon). Haven't decided on accommodation or travel arrangements yet, as we're still debating whether to go over a week earlier for a holiday.

This will be my 3rd Drupalcon in a year :D So to anyone still debating whether or not to go - you definitely definitely should! Be sure to get your ticket before the early bird finishes!

I got my ticket! but feeling a bit of a poseur. So busy this past term I haven't been doing much web development.

Must dig into something this month.

We're going from the 17th to the 5th- making a 10 day trip out of it. Paris will be steaming hot, I know, but will be fun. When I say 'we' it means my drupal-ganger fella is coming :)

I don't think Paris is a good location

  1. It's expensive. Comm'on €195 is not 'a bit' more expensive than €80. It's 150% more expensive!
  2. It's expensive. I got a great room in a very nice hotel in Szeged for €39/night. Now I'll pay €100 for a much much less good room.
  3. It's Paris. I rather concentrate on the conference and learn as much as possible and meet people who are relaxed rather want to go with their partners and kids to the Eiffel tower. In Szeged we 'took over' the city and you met Drupalers around wherever you went. It was a much better community feeling. I was in the hotel with many participants without that we planned it - what is the chance of meeting someone by chance in Paris? A small but beautiful place, like Szeged, or many other cities in Europe, especially if you won't come there otherwise would be better. To Paris you can just come without any reason. And return.

Whooooo

Got my ticket - my first Drupalcon whooooooooo. Ashamed however I havent really been near Drupal at all this past few months. I have promised myself I will read Aaron Winborns Drupal Multimedia Book before I go however. Its sitting here looking at me for weeks from I bought it.

Has anyone done the commercial training tracks in previous years? If so I am very interested to hear what you all think. In need of some professional training. The schedule says there are 4 intense days available at €145 each

Glad you'll be able to come. I've never done the commercial training tracks, I'm not even sure there was such a track at previous events... I don't remember one at Szeged or DC anyway. However there was so much else going on, that could have just slipped me by!

It's the first time they

It's the first time they offer commercial training.

The schedule says there are 4 intense days available at €145 each

Note that it's only one day with 4 tracks : "4 intense one-day commercial training tracks".

Looking forward to see some of the Irish community in Paris as I'm leaving Ireland at the end of this month and moving to Boston in September after the DrupalCon!

Going to be in Paris... looking for a miracle ticket!

I don't have a spare ticket I'm afraid, but perhaps also try asking on the http://paris2009.drupalcon.org site too, or in twitter.
