Hello Drupalites;
My name is Mal. I am the organizer of this Drupal Atlanta group.
It appears we have accumulated a small core group of interested parties. We should perhaps get things started. I have no preconcieved notions about this group's purpose or mode of operation. We can figure it out together.
I'd targeted a first meeting in February. But in order to do that I need to get an idea of where everyone lives to help determine the location of the first meeting. Also, some general commentary about your schedules, and would be helpful.
Additionally, if each of you could reply with some information about yourself, and your interest in this group, that would be a good start.
As for me, I live in Johns Creek. Thats between Alpharetta and Duluth, north of Atlanta.
I am not a programmer, but I have built about 4 drupal sites. I have about 4 more planned.
Sometimes I need assistance with pieces of my projects such as custom programming, or theming. I am an Internet Marketing Consultant. Self-employed. That means I'm somewhat flexible in terms of meeting days and times.
Thanks for signing up.
Hopefully we can become resources for one another.
You can contact me via the contact form.
I look forward to hearing back from you.

Count me in!
I too, live in Johns Creek and I'm developing two websites. I'm also not a programmer (of Drupal, yet) but I've got some interface design experience, a lot of customer relations experience, etc.
There is a new restaurant/brewpub on Old Milton road that would make a great location for a meeting. I put their blog together using Drupal. (see http://5living.dreamhosters.com )
You might also want to check this thread I posted earlier to farm out a few more possible members: http://drupal.org/node/93663
The restaurant has an excellent meeting room upstairs and I suspect they would be happy to host us, since I developed their blog at no charge. (a practice session for me)
I'd be interested in meeting ASAP.
Sounds great - I've family
Sounds great - I've family living down in Johns Creek and just started a website about the city (www.johnscreek.info). I've met one of the owners of the main 5 Seasons restaurant a few times. It would be a good place to meet.
My background is similar to Mal. I build a lot in Joomla but also in Drupal on occasions am looking to make connections with Drupal developers in the Atlanta area
I'm proposing the week of
I'm proposing the week of Feb 11-17--any time. I'm available to meeto sooner, if the concensus is to meet sooner.
Week days, or weekends??
Once we can 2-3 proposed dates, then we can ask zoon_unit to confirm the meeting place for us. Assuming the location is agreeable to all.
Maybe even earlier
I propose that we try and schedule an informal meeting sometime in January, simply to introduce ourselves, develop a little structure, and plan an agenda for the Feb. meeting. We wouldn't need a conference room for this meeting, so perhaps the Prado location would be convenient for everyone.
ITP developer, no car
Hi all.
To introduce:
I am primarily an enterprise PHP developer, but do freelance work so I have some of the skills of a graphic designer, project manager, pitch man and copy editor. I'm working on rather a lot of drupal sites right now, and have been monkeying with the platform since 2004. Right now, I am just getting in to drupal5 proper, and should have my first production site with that codebase(for a clean energy & climate change consulting firm in Boston) up in a week or two.
Concerning meeting:
I'm in the Poncey-Highlands area (Ponce & N. Highland), and my sole means of transportation is MARTA. I am interested in meeting up if the proximity to any bus or train is good.
Maybe not at the first meeting, I would be open to running a quick presentation, if people are interested. Some topics that interest me are:
- category.module
- views.module
- content.module
- and sometimes panels.module
These are my big three(+), with which I solve most problems before thinking about custom modules, and could show some recipes for creating common website features using just these and some friends (and custom themes, of course, which you have to do anyway).
I am interested in, but know precious little about:
- services.module
This standardizes communication with external services (primarily flash & flex), and is kind of exciting for the platform. If someone has worked with this before, I'd be interested in discussing further.
We should be able to assist you
bollwyvl;
We should be able to assist you get from the end of the Marta line, up to a meeting in Johns Creek. I'm tempted to go with the restaurant meeting room if it can be arranged.
Marta runup up to Sandy Springs area. Perhaps someone can pick you up from there.
If not, I'll drive down myself. Its not too far.
There are two location options
The 5 Seasons brewpub on Old Milton in Alpharetta is my first choice. (because I live there) And they have a good conference room.
They also have a location at the Prado, but a separate room and privacy is more of an issue there.
This sounds very interesting
I'm also digging into Views, Panels, and CCK, since my PHP and Drupal programming skills leave something to be desired. :-) These modules are exciting because you can do so much customization without needing to crack the Drupal API.
It sounds like this group will have a very pleasing range of skills. I also have an associate who is a graphic and web designer who is interested in learning more about Drupal.
DRUPAL / PHP Work from home contract
bollwyvl,
Call me at the number below if you have an interest in a long term DRUPAL / PHP contract (work from home - telecommute) situation. If you are tied up but know someone strong, please call me regardless.
I have details and we need an expert PHP with at least 1 year DRUPAL. Market rate ++ ZERO Travel.

I'm in. Coming from the NW area.
In process of building website. Considering drupal for build. Not a developer, just an entrepreneur trying to figure the smart way to build a site from the ground up.
Can we find a middle ground for meet?
kenago
Hey there!
First, thanks for setting up the group. Hopefully there will be more members very soon, seeing as how large Atlanta is. I live on the upper west side ITP (a neighborhood called Riverside), but I work at the Concourse (by the intersection of 285 and 400N on the north side). I can travel just about anywhere for meetings, as long as there are adult beverages involved. ;-)
I'm using Drupal 4.7.5 (and now 5.0) for a corporate intranet and am thinking of employing it for our neighborhood association website. I've been playing with Drupal for about a year but don't know any theming or PHP programming, so I'm a bit short on customizing skills. I would really like to hire someone local who can do cool theming and customization work - I'd even be willing to contribute the final product back to the community pool. Other than that, I just need to learn more about Drupal's vast array of capabilities.
bollwyvl, I'd be very interested in hearing your presentation on those modules. That might be a good way to kick off our first meeting. Other ideas for meeting content might include:
I have access to a projector and cell-based broadband if we could just find a place to use them without much hassle.
Thanks,
John @ TurboChef
Interested party
I work at a local media company and am very interested in Drupal and its potential uses. I am at novice level, but have resources at my disposal -- including a boss eager for me to learn how to best use it. We both want to create more Web sites to reach niche markets, particularly using modules to create blogs, photo & video galleries.
I live and work in the Alpharetta/Johns Creek area, so anything north of the river is best for me, though I've been known to drive farther than 5 miles from home! 5 Seasons sounds great either way. Evenings or weekends are best. For those times when adult beverages are not an absolute necessity, I've got a conference room available any evening or on the weekend.
It appears we have about 10 signups
It appears we have about 10 signups. One appears to be redundant. About 6 have taken the poll. Thursday seems to be the preferred day for meeting, followed by Saturday.
I believe I heard 2-3 unique "votes" for a January meeting. Add mine to that list and we have a solid 3, maybe 4. Anyone else interested in a January meeting? I guess we could run another poll. that would be more scientific.....
...just summarizing where we are presently.
Sounds good - should we
Sounds good - should we shoot for Thursday 25th or Saturday 27th?
I'd go for the 25th
This first meeting should be informal. So, I have no qualms about setting a date. Having a meeting prior to the February meetup will be invaluable for providing structure to the group.
Let's do it!!!
Another vote for an informal meeting on the 25th
Any group member who is interested can attend.
Time: 6pm??
Whats the location??
Might need to be a bit later
Might need to be a bit later for me. 7.30 pm?

Atlanta PHP user group
This comment is a bit off topic, so I hope you'll forgive me, but I'm posting to make you aware of the local Atlanta PHP user group. We've been meeting on the first Thursday of every month for two years, now, and we'd definitely be open to someone giving a Drupal presentation, though our focus is on all things PHP-related. We also would love to work with the local Drupal community of developers/users and partner with them to strengthen the PHP community in the Atlanta area.
All are invited to attend our monthly meetings, from developers to business people. (A business person recently attended one of our meetings looking for freelance Drupal developers.)
For more information, see our website: http://www.atlphp.org/.
I look forward to meeting you all at a future Atlanta PHP meeting.
I am actually a recent member of that group
Ramsey;
I am actually a recent member of that group. I think its the same group...I haven't yet attended a meeting. I expect there will be lots of SYNERGY. Lets keep the dialogue going...
Hi All Any progress on a
Hi All
Any progress on a firm date and time for a meeting? This week on Thursday, or do we have other suggestions?
Steve
I think consensus was
I think consensus was Thurday at 7:30 pm. But I didn't get a location.
Does anyone have ideas for a location??
For the first meeting, I would suggest....
That we meet at the 5 Seasons in the Prado. (inside 285 on Roswell Rd) This venue doesn't have a separate room like the one in Alpharetta, but it's more centrally located, and for the first meeting, we probably don't need a separate room anyway, since it's more of an orientation session.
I will default to the meeting location suggested by zoon_unit
I sent confirmation emails yesterday, but got no confirmation replies. So I'm not sure they were received.
So I will default to the meeting location suggested by Zoon_unit, although I'm not sure its optimal. We can optimize later. In fact the first agenda item I will suggest is to construct a scatter map of where everyone lives, so we can pick a centrally located meeting spot. From what I can tell thusfar the members of his group are skewed toward the North Metro. That would suggest a Northward meeting location. But we'll find out for sure.
So, if you haven't already posted your general residential coordinates please do so today, so we can take your location into account.
I will print all the contents of this page early tomorrow morning and bring it to the meeting with a map. From that we will determine at least a temporary meeting location.
So, lets go ahead and meet at the 5 Seasons in the Prado. (inside 285 on Roswell Rd).
at 7:30pm tomorrow
Hello, I'm a new Drupal user
I'm new to Drupal and just figuring out how the thing works. I've developed a few sites using PHP and MySQL (www.byestuff.com is one I programmed for a friend). My real job is managing Project Managers at TransUnion. I have been a developer (using many different languages like assembler, Pascal, Fortran, VB, etc.) for many years. I've also been a network engineer. For the past 10 years I've been in management, so my side stuff keeps my hands dirty enough to keep me from being bored. :-)
I also live in the Johns creek area, so the place on Old Milton would be fine.

Thanks for getting this group together
Hi,
I am a new user to Drupal. I am very impressed with its power and flexibilty. I am a software engineer
working mainly with Java, Strut, Websphere, EJB, etc. Java frameworks are becoming too complex and I was looking for a more simple and elegant framework. Luckily I came across Drupal. I am in the process of putting together a web site for my old high school using Drupal 4.7.
I think this is a great venture and I am looking forward to meeting like minded individuals.
Thanks,
Calvin
