I am conflicted about how we will manage our project. On one hand, there is TUTOS - The Ultimate Team Organization Sorftware - Free Open Source Software (FOSS). This would entail downloading and installing on a web site - either existing or obtained for this purpose. On the other hand, there is Projects On Demand. A hosted solution. Projects On Demand is more familiar to most but the cost (though nominal) is $180 for the first year & $240 thereafter - there is not a self-hosted option.
Projects On Demand (http://openproj.org/pod)
Projects On Demand is the leading Software as a Service (SaaS) project solution, delivering project management in your browser with a simple monthly subscription. Projects On Demand requires no manual installation and is available anytime/anyplace on Linux, Unix, Mac or Windows. You can simply sign up today and start working immediately with MS Project files (saves in MS format too). An automated "demo" is available here: http://www.projity.com/docs/tutorial_video/POD_Introduction/POD_Introduc...
TUTOS was designed for dispersed teams and is especially suited for software development projects.
TUTOS is a tool to manage the organizational needs of small groups, teams, departments ...
To do this it provides some web-based tools:
* a calendar for users and groups (incl. screenshot)
* Groups / Teams
* address manager for people, companies and departments (incl. screenshot)
* bug tracking system (incl. screenshot)
* product/project repository (incl. screenshot)
o with task management (incl. screenshot)
o with document management (incl. screenshot)
o with installation management (incl. screenshot)
o support of different roles (manager,developer,customer etc.)
o support of relations to other projects (base product, subproject etc.)
* mailboxes (imap/pop)
* timetracking on projects, installations and bugs
* Invoices
* Watchlists. Stay informed on changes on projects/bugs etc via email.
* support for teams that are distributed over different timezones
* color themes / layout
* fine grained permission handling
* change history
* customized (i.e. additional) database fields
There is an interactive demo here: http://demo.tutos.de/php/mytutos.php
I am willing to set up the TUTOS environment so it would be free to all. The PoD would cost each member the subscription fee.

Another contender
Someone suggested Pivotal Tracker as an alternative.
Does anyone have experience with any of them?

Re: Managing our project
Project management will be important. One of the first steps that the group is working on is identifying what the baseline requirements for the group will be. Doing just that through this forum will be difficult. With that said, I'll cast my vote for the open source TUTOS.
Finding the perfect Project
Finding the perfect Project Management software is a project in and of itself. Let's just move forward with TUTOS just so we have something to work with.
Greetings all, Again,
Greetings all,
Again, apologies for the delay. I will get this environment (TUTOS & a Drupal sandbox) set up so we can move on to this nect phase of the project.

online meeting/conference?
Paul,
I think we should hold a online meeting/event/get-together so that we can hear from each other and see what we can do to help. I would be willing to give or gotomeeting info and conference bridge.. let me know.

I agree
I think this could help us all get on the same page as to where we want this project to go. I think we have a lot of great ideas so far but these need to be organized and a vision needs to be developed.
Glad to Be Involved
Yeah, I think this is a great idea, and it's good to see some activity. We hoping to be using NetForum by sometime the beginning of next year, so the timing is good.

Great idea
Maybe we should work toward (it may take some effort) 'meeting' like this on a regular basis!
As for the first one, I might be able to swing one next week. My daughter is getting married on Sat. and I am trying to complete some projects before taking a couple of days off.
DimDim(.com) is a free open source meeting system we can use. I will try to post back with potential dates for next week, if anyone has "X is better" or "Y I can't do" days, let us know here.

Paul
Ok, will wait to hear back..
Like I said, if you need the bridge let me know. would like to see where the the project is and flush out anyone that might possibly be able to help..
