East side and West Side Meetups
Thanks for putting the east side (Oakland U) meetup together. In the past we've met over on the east side as well (Rochester), but for many of us West-siders it was WAY to far to drive (Ann Arbor group is closer to me than even Troy). So, just FYI, I think we'll be trying to have some meetings over on the West side as well to accommodate those of us over here.
It'll be good if we stay as one "Detroit Group" online, but I think since the area is big enough it makes sense to have 2 different meetups for each side of the city. Any input? We're planning on having a small get together this Wednesday.

Rotating venues
Instead of splitting up into east and west, I think changing venues would be enough to keep us all as one unified official "Metro Detroit Drupal Users Group".
Since the Metro Detroit and the Ann Arbor groups each meet once a month, most of us can already choose to attend one, or both. Those on the westside would probably pick Ann Arbor, but if they are interested in the Metro Detroit gathering, they can choose to attend that as well due to the way the scheduling works out and the flexible venue scheme.
We have thus far secured meeting locations for the next 3 months; at Oakland Univ. in Rochester Hills for July, in Troy for August, possibly in Farmington Hills for September.
Distance Issue
I think what you're suggesting here is ideal. However, I (and others I know on the west side) have dealt with the reality of the situation which is: both venues have been too far for us go (1hr+ drive to either ann arbor or rochester) therefore, unfortunately, we can't attend either on any kind of regular basis (only when we have gas money to burn).
A few of us might end up having smaller west side gatherings in informal locations...we'll post them here so folks can attend if they want. We posted the first one here.

I'm interested in meeting up in Western Wayne, too. Drive to Troy to horrendous. Ann Arbor is okay, but prefer something closer to where I live (Livonia). I'm a busy working mom and can't spend a lot of time in traffic.
I'm looking more for inspiration and motivation, informal tech talk and networking, and less about formal presentations. I was introduced to Drupal by a fellow 805 bus rider a month ago, but I just see him anymore. If you're out there ... thanks ... I'm digging Drupal.
