I would add Panels to that list, and most likely CCK too.
Most news sites would also like some kind of scheduled publishing, which means Scheduler comes in handy. If you want to copy the way they do URLs you should also get Pathauto.

When I think about it, it's really time to rewrite the list of modules that might be useful for newspapers (which still mainly deals with –gasp– Drupal 5).
