Event type:
User group meeting

We're excited to announce our new Frontend Drupal meetup, which meets on the 4th Tuesday of every month. This month, we're meeting at Filter Digital, a digital solutions agency in Culver City, between 7-9pm on August 28, 2012. This meetup focuses on design, usability, accessibility and theming, and as part of the Design 4 Drupal movement is about inviting the larger design community to become a part of the Drupal community.

This is looking to be a great kickoff for our series of Frontend Drupal meetups! At our inaugural session, we'll have a presentations about the Foundation framework by Ishmael Sanchez, another presentation on Adobe Edge by shaRon and a lightning talk on @fontyourface by joyseeker.

Our meetups follow a basic format and start off with Drupal news and announcements, local job announcements, raffle prizes and full-length presentations. As always, we'll also have community Q&A, during which time anyone in attendance can ask questions, divine answers from the crowd and give brief, 5-10 minute-long presentations known as lightning talks.

We'll finish off the night with more networking and a Drupal After Dark at 9:30pm.

About Design 4 Drupal (D4D)

Translating a design into a Drupal "theme" is often a high barrier and it has been difficult and costly for many designers to have a “design-driven approach” to Drupal. Feedback from the design community has often focused on the difficulties of designing for the Drupal theme system, which combines several programming disciplines and languages, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript and PHP.

Design 4 Drupal is an organized movement in the Drupal community to help make Drupal more friendly and approachable to designers, information architects and usability engineers, and in general anyone who is interested in customizing Drupal’s output to the web page.

At its core, Design for Drupal is about inviting the larger design community together to be a part of the Drupal community and enabling designers, usability engineers, developers, information architects and themers to coordinate efforts, come up with creative ideas and work towards making Drupal easier to use and look beautiful.

Curious: how many number of seats / slots are available for online & physical attendees?

Thanks for asking!

christefano's picture

Thanks for asking!

Our physical venue has one large common area and 3 smaller meeting rooms. We've used these spaces successfully in the past when we had the High Performance Drupal meetups here. The most we've had at this venue is approximately 30 people.

WebEx supports up to 25 attendees (i.e. 24 plus the event host). If we see an unusually high number of signups from people who are outside of the Los Angeles area, we can upgrade the WebEx account to WebEx Training Center so that we can host 1000 attendees.

Using foundation lightning talk?

As a quick reminder, anyone who signs up for tomorrow's meetup at http://groups.drupal.org/node/246753#signup will receive the WebEx login information by email.

We are not using Skype or FreeConferenceCall and I've removed that information from the signup information.

This is looking to be a great kickoff for our Frontend Drupal meetups and I'm looking forward to seeing you all there!

I'd like to do a Lightning Talk about about @fontyourface. I'm using fonts.com and typekit.com and there's some cool ways to set it up in the interface.

Yes, the presentations will be recorded. It will be a few days, though, until the video is transcoded from its proprietary codec and uploaded. If anyone would like to volunteer to help with this work, please let me know.

In the meantime, stay tuned to the comments here and @DowntownDrupal on Twitter for updates. Thanks, and I hope we'll see you at the next one!

Edge Suite (a D7 module) + Adobe Edge Animate

Hi! If you are here you most likely attended the Front-End Drupal meeting, part of the Design 4 Drupal initiative; August 28th in Los Angeles, CA
The Demo Site
Presentation PDF
Thank you for the opportunity to present @Front-end Drupal

Adobe Edge Animate Integration with Drupal 7

LA Drupal member shaRon, showcased "Edge Suite" a new module for D7developed/maintained by ti2m.

Edge Suite Features:
Inline and iFrame embedding
Show multiple compositions per page
Configure individual blocks
Data injection per block to alter behavior

Edge Preview 7 was released 8-20-2012.
Edge has a new name along with some sweet feature enhancements:
Edge is now Adobe Edge Animate. A few of my favorite features are:
1) Timeline - intuitive, accurate, flexible
2) Re sizable layouts w/ fall-back image
3) Animating existing HTML
4) Multiple publishing options (static HTML, DPS, etc)
5) Web Fonts
6) Native HTML - no proprietary files, WebKit-based stage for fidelity

(enables work-flows between designers and developers)
7) Interactivity
8) Symbols

Be one of the first to try Edge Animate Preview7 now!
Looking forward to seeing and hearing your implementations of the "Edge Suite" in your next Drupal project!

If you have questions ping-me.
shaRon, an Adobe enthusiast and front-end web/ animation geek who creates multi-screen experiences and loves to share technology and design with community.
