Notes from August Central Florida Meetup + FloridaDrupal Camp Planning

The monthly Central Florida Drupal User's Group meetup was held on Saturday, August 15, 2009 at MindComet's offices in Altamonte Springs. 15 Drupalers were in attendance.

Mike Anello started off the meetup by giving a demonstration of the Table Wizard and Migrate module. I started by downloading some earthquake data (all recorded earthquakes in the last 7 days - all 942 of them!) from Data.gov in CSV format. I then used Table Wizard to import the data into a MySql table and to be able to display it on a Drupal site using Views. Then, I demonstrated how to use the Migrate module to migrate the earthquake data into Drupal nodes using a custom "earthquake" content type. Finally, I used the Mapstraction module to display all the earthquakes on a map.

Damien McKenna then did a demonstration of the Views Bulk Operations module. The "Select all X rows in this view" option on the admin/content/node2 page (a replacement for admin/content/node) brought an audible gasp to the room. Awesome. For those of us who haven't checked out this module in awhile (or ever), it was a real eye-opener to the power of this versitile module.

Jackie covered Image Publishing to integrate her site images with the Gallery package which allows users to run desktop software that enables uploading of the images in an OS native environment.

We also discussed the 2010 Florida Drupal Camp and setup the initial meeting + main wiki page. The first call in meeting will be on Monday August 24th at 9pm EST (218-862-1000 960854#). Everybody is welcome to call in if you are interested in finding out about the planning of this year's DrupalCamp.

I found this post on the setup of DrupalcampLA's site. They've posted the site infrastructure it as a download (not including graphics).
