Folks, we had been talking about setting up a sandbox environment since forever! With the new developments in D6 and D7, isn't this a good opportunity for us to get a free hosting space, set up a tutorial space and a testing / sandbox space... etc?!

Let's think of a good domain name! Here are some suggestions:

hkdug.org
hkdug.com
hkdrupal.com
hkdrupalug.com

I'd like to see something like http://djangopeople.net for HK on hkdug.info - I think this is quite appropriate because HKDUG is a community of Drupalers living in HK so we should be promoting these people.

Just got approval email from Acquia. Now... how do we share access and keep this as open as possible, while maintaining security? (as in not allowing people to sabotage our site.)

Hello Nicholas,

Thank you for your application to the Free Acquia Hosting program. We are happy to inform you that Hong Kong Drupal user Group has been approved and we would like to get you up and running on Acquia Hosting in the near future. Acquia provides a shared hosting, high availability environment that is optimized for Drupal.

What your Free Hosting subscription includes:
-1 Slice of Acquia Hosting (500,000 page views / mo)
-100 GB of bandwidth
-150 GB of storage
-A functional staging environment
-Code and revision control via SVN
-nightly site backups

Acquia Hosting Constraints:
Acquia Hosting is built in around a shared high-availability cluster architecture. The nature of shared server environments is such that normal access to stack components must be constrained to preserve the integrity of the shared environment. For this reason, module/code management is handled only via SVN and command line access is not allowed. Public, private and import files directories are made available uploading and downloading files to them using scp or rsych. Logs may also be downloaded with scp from your site's designated log location.

Next Steps:
Before we can begin the process of migrating your site, there are a few more steps we must take:

Signed Free Acquia Hosting agreement. Within the next few weeks we will be sending you a copy of our Hosting Agreement for you to fill out and return.
Hosting kickoff phone call. Upon receipt of the completed agreement, an Acquia rep will contact you to set up an initial call. This kickoff call is meant to go over the logistics of migrating your site and ensure that there aren't any technical requirements that Acquia Hosting cannot accommodate.

We are looking forward to Hosting your site.

Thanks,

Acquia Team

It's great to set up a tutorial space and a testing / sandbox space. We can record the tutorial or case study on our meeting and sharing it.

Also, it provide the environment for newcomer try how to build drupal or understand the admin setting behind.

http://groups.drupal.org is good for drupaler meetup or share idea, but not enough to attract newcomer to use drupal.

Thanks Nicholas!

Andy

svn commit = upload?

what should the site behave? http://groups.drupal.org is enough for a small group like HKDUG?
