First Drupal Meetup of 2013

Hey,

So the world didn't come to an end in 2012 and Drupal is still kicking ass, happy new year to all of you :) I think its time for the first meetup to get the ball rolling for 2013. Based on feedback from Drupalcamp Delhi and Mumbai we feel that it'd be best to rotate between agenda based and Drupal ladder kind of meetups, so the first meetup that we are proposing is gonna be a bit of both where in first 1 hr we will have a talk and the rest of it will be introducing and kickstarting Drupal ladder in pune. Last year has seen lot of Drupalers migrating to pune and we now have a really resourceful pool to run something like Drupal ladder. As some of you might know Symbiosis has a CMS course where they encourage Drupal a lot, hence I feel we have a really productive mix of people wanting to learn and help. Please find the agenda for 19th Jan 2013 meetup:

1> State of Drupal 8 and where can we pitch in.
2> Intro to Drupal ladder.
3> Drupal ladder kickoff.

Venue Options -- QED42 office (Aundh, near parihar chowk) can host upto 15 people -- 12 mbps connection / Symbiosis ( Model colony ) can host upto 50 ( we need to ask for a slot, but its easy to get ) -- internet access available.

Do let us know in comments as to what would be a comfortable venue for you, lets fix on the venue by Tuesday. Also if you have questions/suggestion on meetup agenda, do let us know your views in comments.

Dipen I think Symbiosis is the best option for venue because lot of peoples are interested to learn Drupal and this sort time slot above agenda is fine.

Meeting summary notes

Hi,

Thanks all for coming, we had around 22 attendees and feel we had a productive discussion on the future of pune drug ( drupal user group ), upcoming events and Drupal 8. Outcome of discussion:

1> We will have 1 meetup every month.
2> We will switch between ladder style meetup and agenda based meetups, with more focus on ladder style till we find ourselves with beginners demanding sessions ( currently people are most interested in doing Drupal ladder meetups )
3> Next meetup will be ladder style ( after gnunify 2013 )
4> Pune Drupal user group will represent Drupal in gnunify 2013 ( to read more about gnunify - http://www.gnunify.in . We will mostly focus on Drupal outreach as it will be students heavy demographics. We will pitch Drupal ladder in last session to encourage students to get hands on by completing first 2 or 3 ladders.

Drupalcamp

In lieu of exams in march - april, everyone liked the idea of two big Drupal events in pune. One focused towards advance Drupalers in march ( tentative date is 16th March ) and the other in Aug/Sep. March one will focus on expert Drupalers from agenda/activity point of view and organisational efforts expected to be minimal. But we are proposing a full fledged Drupal camp in August/Sep ( date to be decided ) where in we wish to get more students involved.

Drupal 8

Had a great discussion on Drupal 8 towards the end, where in people shared results of their grokking of D8. We covered the following:

1> Drupal 8 directory structure.
2> How Drupal is moving away from "Not invented here" -- we discussed all third party libraries.
3> Discussed CMI, opened some yaml files to see how it will look.
4> Typed data API and the new entity api ( couldn't go in depth )

Next meetup

23rd Feb, Drupal ladder style.

TODO
Figure out whats the best way to organize this, most important part I feel is to figure out how not to burden seasoned developers with the role of mentor ( how to divide time between being a contributor and a mentor ).
