Hello everyone, I wanted to introduce myself and open up a discussion about a regular meetup in Tallahassee, Fl. It seems to me from the posts I have been able to find that there is very little activity in North Florida and I for one would like to see that change.
My skill level with Drupal is nothing to brag about but I've managed to get a few sites up and running. It would help me tremendously to network with people in the area and hoped we could get the ball rolling up here. Just to give you some background on me, I have been in the digital media business for over twenty years as a 2d/3d graphic artist and digital media producer. I am a three year resident of Tallahassee and I am using Drupal as a vehicle to create a digital media studio with a focus on high quality custom content. If there are Drupalists in Tally I would like to meet and maybe even collaborate with you on paying work that I currently have. I look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks,
David Cruz

We've had a guy (Brian something...) down from Tallahassee at our Gainesville meetups. Unfortunately, I don't have his contact info.
He was saying the same thing as you: Tally needs a meetup.
If you organize one, I'm sure I can get a couple of people up from Gainesville/Jacksonville to come over a couple times to 'get the ball rolling'.
Let me know!

Thanks guys, for the offer of support. I'd be happy to organize a regular meetup. Mike, would you be willing to guide me through the process? Could we get a one on one discussion going?

Definitely. Quick question: Can you make it to the GNV meetup tomorrow? If so, we can talk about it there. If not, no worries.

Mike - Initially, I'd like to have a call with you and then maybe use this thread to post our progress. I'll send you a private msg and we can go from there.
Kevin - Thanks, I look forward to it!
Would like to resume meetups in Tallahassee!
I miss going to local meetups. If we have an idea of how many people might attend, I can even try to arrange space.

A Tallahassee drupalist... you DO exist, I knew it! I'm sure there are more so the hunt continues!
I'd like to talk to you more about arranging a space and other related things. Do you mind if I msg you directly?
Sure!
No problem.
Tallahassee Drupal meetups
Folks -
I'll be moving to Tallahassee at the end of April and would love to get together with other Drupalist. I've got a few sites under my belt, mostly 6, but one in 7. I need all the help I can get - and would love to share what I do know.

Update... I am working on
Update... I am working on getting a location set up and for this I need to have an Idea of days/times that would work for most people. Personally I'm ok with Mon-Thur early evenings. Also, how long do meetups typically go? Some of these places will be strict on time.
Bobbie, I tried to contact you a couple of times through your contact page on d.o but I never got a reply. I'm sure you just didn't see it, but hopefully you catch this and check it out.
Meetup times
Early evening (right after work) Mon - Thurs is a great time. I think you can be as flexible as you want in terms of meeting duration - the group's enthusiasm will ultimately determine that!
length
@dimmech,
Meetup lengths are whatever you want them to be. Here in Brevard County, ours normally go about 2 hours. We have a great location that serves great food, so the first 30 minutes or so people are usually just eating and talking, then we have a couple of 30-45 minute presentations.

Gainesville typically does
Gainesville typically does 7pm-9pm and then we go out for massive amounts of beer afterwards.
Keep us updated, we'll make the trip up!

Location downtown
I have the ok to use either of the meeting rooms where I work. If we have guests from Gainesville, then I guess the larger one would be better. Any evening is fine.
The Idea of food being there
The Idea of food being there sounds great! :) So I am checking out a few places with that in mind. We should have a couple more options for a location after the weekend.

Hey I'm also in Tallahassee and I thought I was the only Drupal junkie around here, I'm certainly interested in coming to a gathering if you have one. Let me know when it happens.
Tallahassee Drupal meeting
Bobbie - since you've got the OK to use a meeting room at your work, why don't YOU propose a date/time for a meeting?
(Let's not make this too complicated folks - let's just meet at Starbucks, if that's what it takes to get together!)

Ok, I have a suggestion for a
Ok, I have a suggestion for a meeting place. At least for the first meeting or two.
There are a couple of people coming into town from a good distance to help us get things going (I assume after work like me) and it would only be fair to have a place with some grub nearby. I myself live on the outskirts of town and have a 1.5 hr round trip drive.
That being said, there is a great ice cream place with a "party/meeting" room called Lofty Pursuits at 1415 Timberlane Rd #410, Tallahassee, FL. If you Google it at street level you'll see that there are like a dozen places within walking distance where those of us who would like to get a bite before the meeting can do so. Lofty Pursuits will let us use the space and asks that we buy some deserts in trade. I don't think that will be much of a problem but let me know your thoughts.
As for a date, I'm flexible but I'd like to see if we could coerce one or two of our out of town senior drupalists to present for us. I'll extend some personal invitations for such and post back soon, meanwhile please give us your thoughts.
Meeting location suggestion
Excellent choice!
LP is great!
I've been to several meetings in the private room there at Lofty, and I agree, it's nice, but the room is on the small side and we might need to borrow a projector to see any demos. We could ask about hooking into the video in the main store, instead of using the meeting room for screen work or demos. I sort of know the owner, too. (small town)
The meeting rooms in my building are open every evening for the next 2 weeks and we have lots of elbow room and a smartboard (projector/whiteboard combo) for demos/presentations, connected to a PC with internet access for live demo or dropbox, etc and USB if you bring material on flashdrive.
Any night but Tuesday works for me, either place is fine.
We could always adjourn to Lofty for dessert, they are open til 10.
P.S. http://www.loftypursuits.com - yeah, that's Drupal!
When the staff updates the available ice cream flavors to reflect inventory it also posts to Facebook.
Proposed Date and Time for Meetup
Thanks for the feedback so far everyone.
@verta, I spoke with the owner at LP and he does have a projector for us to use. We will have internet access through the Old Town WiFi. Why don't we agree to at least have the first meeting at LP to test the waters. However, it would be great if we could count on your space as a backup in case we need it for future meetings.
The first Wed of the month is the day I'd like to propose for the Tally meetups, which would make the first meetup on Wed June 5, at 7pm. Does that present a conflict for anyone?
Mike Herchel has agreed to present for us, thanks Mike! More details to follow...
I'm definitely down for a Wed
I'm definitely down for a Wed June 5 meetup. I can give a presentation on one of the following: 1) Awesomizing Drupal's Back-end (I just gave this at Drupalcon) 2) Drupal Page Speed (I gave this at FLDC) 3) Sass, Compass and the Singularity Grid System (this is new)
Let me know if anyone has any preferences.

I'm In for the 5th
David,
I am the Bryan that Mike mentioned. I will be there on the 5th!
By the way, the new library branch on Pedrick has a free meeting room with hook-up for video. It is real easy to get to from the interstate. Room will hold 60. look forward to meeting you and other Tally Drupaler's.
I plan to be there I also
I plan to be there I also hear LP has some great ice cream so it will be a good excuse to try it out, looking forward to meeting other tally drupalers finally!

Looks like we are on for the 5th of June for our first Tally Drupal meeting at Lofty Pursuits. We are setting up the event on GDO.
Bryan- Thanks for the tip on the library I will definitely have to check out the space.
Mike- I would like to hear any of the three options. They all sound interesting to me. Although I have to say I know nothing about sass and compass yet but I know people like it.
Our first meeting
I'm out of town that week :(
I've sent a note to all the members of Refresh Tallahassee about our meeting - I think there are a number of closet Drupalists in that group.
Dimmech - May I suggest that you create a Meetup for Tallahassee Drupal. For good or bad, I think we'll attract more participants via Meetup than from drupal.org

First Tallahassee meetup event
Hey Everyone! Just in case you missed it, the first Tallahassee meetup is this coming Wednesday.
Details at https://groups.drupal.org/node/300718. Be sure to post that you're coming (so it looks like we have a good amount of traction).
Note that you may need to reset your Drupal password if you haven't done it in a while.
